I'm loathe to put the boot in because the staff were very pleasant and friendly and the food was good traditional Norman fare.

BUT the rooms were a disgrace - dirty carpets, wallpaper and curtains, a cracked window and shower that wasn't working properly. The last time I stayed in a room this grotty was 17 years ago on a stag in Nottingham and being drunk most of the time I hardly cared.

Very disappointing.

A lovely hotel in this country of Caux, attentive patrons, generous cuisine in a classical room, comfortable beds and pillows also ... Breakfast is delicious, bread really too good ... perfect to start well the day.

An excellent dinner and a good night

Stayed here in mid September for four nights booking demi pension our arrival day being Sunday I received an e mail from the proprietor advising that they were closed in th restaurant Sunday night but giving the access code for the hotel and advising my key would be available in reception and recommending the other Logis in the town for Sunday dinner.We arrived mid afternoon  to find a function in full swing and keys available but nobody seemed to be able to advise as to whether we could have half board for our other three nights.We went to the other Logis to book a table for the evening only to be advised that their restaurant also was not open Sunday evenings.Our room was on the front of the hotel facing the road down which we found later that heavy goods vehicles thundered from about 6-00am going from Le Havre to the Brotonne bridge over the Seine.Our room was clean but small however the bead was comfortable although the decor was a little tired .The bathroom was serviceable but the shower which was over the bath was hand held,had no screen or curtain and in consequence the floor could get rather wet.
The dining room had delusions of grandeur but was not a warm or welcoming area being decorated in grey purple and silver .The staff were courteous and efficient but lacked warmth and the food was not terribly inspiring.
Breakfasts were adequate but were simply viennoiserie and bread with packet jams.
The hotel is nicely placed for the town and the promenade but it does need a by pass to remove the wagons and it needs the proprietors and staff to relax and have a little more warmth and interest in their guests

Impersonal and noisy

Good location, easy to find, nearby parking and welcoming staff.

I'm not at all fussy about bedrooms after all they're somewhere to sleep rather than to live in.  However don't expect anything grand here. The room we had was on the small side and cramped; it struck me as something you would have found in a small French hotel forty years ago. It had been modernised and had an OK bathroom en suite but it was very basic. The fact that the bathroom was above the kitchen meant it smelt of chips but so what?

The breakfast we had the next day and the dinner that night was very good but these ratings are for the hotel, not the restaurant.

A good restaurant with less good bedrooms

We stayed at Le Cheval at the beginning of  December for 4 nights. When we booked direct we informed the hotel we would like to have dinner there every night.  We had a e-mail back to say that the restaurant was closed on a Friday which was fine as there were other restaurants in the town. The room was adequate,  one good thing was it was lovely and warm.  We always go over to France at this time of the year and have been to one or two places which were not as warm as I would like. Breakfast was basic but okay. Saturday morning there was quite a bit of activity and as we went out I noticed that there was a small notice on the  restaurant door which I think I translated correctly saying that there was an outside event and the restaurant was closed. We took it that it was just closed lunchtime. We got back to the hotel after 6pm and was a bit concerned as it was in darkness and there was a van outside being filled up. My husband went and spoke to someone and found that the restaurant was closed that evening because of an outside event. Now if we had been told beforehand when we booked which wasn't very far ahead fine we wouldn't have minded but not actually being told was an inconvenience as we had not explored other places to eat that night  -  they may say there was a notice on the restaurant door but we came out of the hotel door and it was only by luck I saw the very small notice.  I think also we were above the kitchen and there was a lot of noise first thing in the morning, last thing at night and at 2am on  the Sunday morning. These 2 things combined spoilt our short break and will not come back again though the town and riverside are quite nice even in December
