We stayed for a couple of nights at the La Fugue aux Varennes. It was great with a very spacious room, lots of pine and well insulated so it was very warm with no heating. When we arrived we were asked when we wanted breakfast and we said 7.00am (just arriving from Australia we were waking at 5.00am and by 7 were very hungry indeed, and also wanted to go see the Sancerre sites while the light was soft and the crowds few), and while the owner blanched a little he provided a fine breakfast. On the second morning when we wanted to leave early for a day long drive to Rheims before the traffic built up, the owner said a 7.00am breakfast was impossible and he would leave tea and some cakes out instead. Of course the tea and coffee did not include milk, and the cakes very poor (pre-packaged from the supermarket); and the idea of us helping ourselves (common in other B&Bs) was out of the question: not a good look for what is the wise a great place to stay.

A  Great Place to Stay: pity about the inflexible breakfast

We had hoped to stay at the Hotel Saint Satur sur Loire but it was fully booked, however the proprietor suggested we might like his sister hotel about ten minutes away.
What an excellent place, totally the opposite of his other hotel, being almost brand new and constructed almost entirely of wood. we had a spacious bedroom on the first floor, which opened to a small balcony 
The bathroom consisted of a shower, bath and double wash basins, with
bath robes supplied, the toilet was separate from the bathroom.
Bruno our host could not have been more helpful, with an excellent command of English he helped us to plan our days in order to obtain the most from our stay.

Friendly stopover.

We spent 2 night at La fugue in september 2013.

Well, where do I start?..fantastic place, beautifully appointed , location is perfect. Breakfast is really excellent  with an assortment or local products. Super clean and quiet. Bruno and Isabelle are fantastic hosts , they go out of their way to make you feel at home .This is probably the nicest guest house I have visited anywhere. I highly recommend this place. It you are looking for tranquility and relaxation this is it. Bravo Bruno and Isabelle !!

Wonderful place.

A breath of fresh air after staying in hotel after hotel. Bruno and Isabelle were extremely welcoming and accommodating. The house was very light and airy. 
The room was very spacious and the bed quite comfortable. There were many well thought-out details in the room and house that help bring one to feel at peace and rest.

The meals were excellent and incorporated local cuisine (like the regional chevre); I always cleaned my plate and left the table full but not overly stuffed. Isabelle is very attentive to details and to the needs of her guests; she remembered I like tea after my meal and would have the water ready as soon as dinner was over.

The location is about 15 minutes from Sancerre, right near the Loire. Isabelle can also give you so recommendations on wine caves to visit or other things to do and see. There is free onsite parking and wifi.

Small things to be aware of: When offered wine or beer at the meal, beware that they are not included in the price. I was a bit surprised to see a 3euro charge on my bill when I checked out. Also, the spa is not free. It is 18 euros for one hour and must be reserved in advance. It includes a shower space, hot tub, steam room, and electric massage chair. But it is private so you can mingle between the different places as you wish.

A little piece of Zen

We stayed here for two nights and this place is wonderful. Bruno and Isabelle are so welcoming and they have created a wonderful homely guest house. So comfortable, the rooms are huge and luxurious, the wellness centre is a treat and the breakfasts are fabulous, especially the home made jams and the local goats cheese 'Crottin de Chavignol'. My fiance had terrible food poisoning from a restaurant in the North of France and Bruno could not have been kinder in making sure he felt comfortable and looked after without being instrusive. Thank you so much for your kind hospitality. We will definitely return as this the the most beautiful area of France!
