This quaint little hostel is owned by a super lovely couple who go above and beyond to ensure their guests have a great experience. The rooms were comfortable and very clean with a sink in each, and they have an onsite bar that has an awesome Happy Hour :) We chose the option of a breakfast in the morning, and it did not disappoint. We truly enjoyed our stay here, and if in Chamonix we will certainly be back!

We stumbled upon this place after doing the TMB. Gary and Ella were the perfect hosts, very friendly and accommodating with good local knowledge. We booked a twin room, our room was basic but comfortable and clean with stunning views of Mont Blanc from our balcony. There is a great little bar with both indoor and outdoor seating areas, if you're lucky you will drop on their happy hour and a pint will only set you back by 2 euros. The breakfast is pretty basic (various cereals, bread, jams etc), but you can have as much as you like, which came in handy after doing the TMB. It is ideally positioned, only a couple of minutes minutes walk from the centre of town. It is significantly cheaper than any other place that we looked in Chamonix. Nothing is too much trouble for Gary and Ella, they will help you in any way they can. I have no reservations in recommending this place, a fantastic experience at a very reasonable price. 

HI, I totally recommend this place if you are looking for a relaxed, friendly conversational break n Chamonix.
Gary and Ellie were so helpful and friendly, the room was clean and quietm, great showers and a great breakfast , especially if you like beown bread and cereal! The bar is chilled and thers' a great rettace with a undisturbed view of the glacier. 3 mins walk from the bus stop

Walking into the bar I was met by the concierge “haggis”. He was so welcoming and friendly, handsome too!! Haggis showed me to the bar where I was informed it was happy hour, bonus!! €3.50 for a well poured pint was a nice change from some of the prices in other bars.  Haggis asked if I was hungry and pointed out that I could indulge in the pleasure of a pukka pie... I had two, well 1 and a 1/2 if I’m honest... haggis had half..  I will certainly be going back, great atmosphere, great staff, everyone is really friendly and best of all is the welcome from haggis... he’s the goodest boy!!!

I came to Chamonix last minute on a climbing course and the Vagabond was luckily available for a friend and I to stay. The staff were so friendly - Ella, Gary and Alex really made it feel like our home! The bathrooms were always clean and it had a lovely garden to relax in. Also, happy hour is between 17:30-18:30 which at €3.50 for a pint of beer is the cheapest we’ve seen in Chamonix! It’s overlooked by Mount Blanc and is just down the round from the town centre so really practical. I’d definitely stay here again!

Perfect hostel located just 200m from the town center. I highly recommend this on a budget or a very fast, cheap trip! 
For 3 nights it cost me 150 Euros and that means skiing in the alps on a budget! 
The bar is very impressive and the hospitably there is very reliable and fun! 
Very down to earth folks and always a great conversation.

Came here for a quick drink after a long day. Alcohol is fairly cheap for the area, especially in happy hour (5:30-6:30) where wine is just €2 a glass. My only negative is that the music was quite loud so had to shout over it. Staff were friendly and spoke excellent English, views over the mountains were stunning. 

This was en route between Chamonix centre and our hotel. Happy hour 5.30 -  6.30 pm coincided with my trip in and out of town at the end of a day’s skiing. Friendly staff, a few ex-pats drop in along with a couple of friendly dogs.

Dear host,

We made a booking for one night stay at the vagabond hostel via hostel world for the 9th of August. It was a pleasant stay and so we decided to book a second night with you, which we did verbally, for our return to Chamonix on the 13th of August after our 5 days of trekking. 

Already after our first day hiking we realised we were needed to change our route so we were not able to return to Chamonix on the 13th. Every day of the week we tried calling the hostel with an immediate voicemail message, and no option to speak to a member of staff what so ever. Furthermore no email address was available to reach you, until contacting hostel world and obtaining this mail address weeks later. We were very disappointed to see that even after all our efforts and without using your facilities on the 13th, still the full amount was taken from the credit card. We are still waiting for any answer from you.

We really hope that you can refund this amount because it is not correct that we were not able to discuss the options for cancellation or refunds. If we had known we could have changed our booking to a suitable date.

Inability to contact you

The manager showded up at 1710, 40 min after opening hour 1630, no excuse and made us feel like a problem who expected someone to be there when it opened. In addition, it was the dirtiest room ever. Cannot have been cleaned in ages. Decided not to stay, did’nt feel welcome at all. Very sad because the location and price were good.
