We booked for a group of 7 to stay at Chalet Les Drus in February 2019, although it was a little warm and the snowpack wasn’t ideal, it was still a fantastic trip. We were well looked after by Lucy who was a brilliant chalet host - she made us feel very welcome, accommodating of the group’s various dietary requirements and was an excellent chef, in particular her delightful canapés which were very moreish.

The chalet was well presented, clean and light throughout - with the exception of the basement room which would benefit from a larger window. Great sized hot tub, close to the flegere lift and quaffable free flowing table wine during dinner!

Gary, the Valley Fever Manager, was very responsive and helpful during the booking process and arranging last minute transfers when some of the group’s flights were delayed. His team was what really made our trip, in particular the gregarious Ash who super helpful with our shuttle and ski itinerary planning and the wonderful Lucy - who the group unanimously agreed we would love to stay with again!

What Chamonix lacks in the way of après, it makes up for in the large range of restaurants, bars, clubs and late night discothèques in town. I would highly recommend Les Drus as a great chalet for your trip to Chamonix.

Fantastic stay at Chalet Les Drus

Returned for a second visit with husband, brother, grandson and two friends. This time we booked just the three top rooms in the chalet. Brother was disappointed to find that his bathroom didn't actually have a shower, just a shower attachment over a bath but he was able to use the "state of the art" shower located in the basement of the chalet with its all encompassing lights and power shower head which both he and my grandson thought was fantastic. Our flight from Gatwick was delayed by about 2 hours but that didn't phase Gary and he waited patiently for us at Geneva airport. We therefore arrived quite late into the evening at the chalet but our host Lucy and Ash were super organised and had a cracking meal waiting for us despite our lateness. Unfortunately our baggage was delayed 36 hours (pants start to a ski holiday eh!!) but Gary managed to find some spare ski pants for my grandson so at least he got to go practice some snowboarding on the Sunday. 

The rooms upstairs are spacious, clean and warm. The views from the bedrooms of Mont Blanc are stunning and breathtaking.

Our chalet hosts for the week were Lucy and Martin with Ash popping his head in now and then. Couldn't wish to meet a nice bunch of staff. Lucy's cooking was fantastic. I'm vegetarian and she sat down with me and went through the week's menu and she cooked me up some great treats, never boring, always tasty. Everyone agreed the food was well cooked, plentiful and very happy bunnies indeed. Afternoon tea went down a treat every day with a different cake, bread, butter, jam and tea and coffee. Wine each night was plentiful and empty bottles were replenished by Martin in a flash (very attentive may I say). Gary was so helpful, he ferried me to the hospital when I became unwell with a ear infection even booking the appointment for me. He pulled out all the stops to ensure that we had a great time - and we certain did. Nothing was too much trouble and it made the holiday all that much more enjoyable. I would thoroughly recommend Chalet Drus and Valley Fever but special thanks to Lucy and Martin for being such great hosts.

Great to be back

We had a wonderful time staying with Valley Fever. We were five adults and our 4-month old daughter, and everything was prepared for us, and questions were easily answered whenever there were any. 

Our hosts for the week, Lucy and Martin, were absolutely amazing. Lucy would arrive early morning to cook up some breakfast and prep for dinner. Dinner was always punctual and delicious, though the menu was a bit heavy on potatoes every day. There was always a delicious freshly-made cake for the day. The pair were always a warm-hearted delight, always with smiles and a great attitude, they truly made our stay fantastic and easy-going. 

The size of the chalet was surprising and a bit disappointing, we were expecting something much bigger. The furthest room is not sound-proofed, we could hear the family in the other chalet word-for-word, but since it was only a sleeping room it wasn't a big issue. I would fire up the fireplace early every morning because it would get chilly (around 19 degrees) and with a baby, that's a bit drafty...but it would warm up the room so quickly, and there was always fresh firewood available. 

The entire team was very good, we just couldn't figure out what the "manager" was responsible for, and found it quite inappropriate and unprofessional that she came into the chalet on the second day unannounced, without a Valley Fever uniform on, without knocking and tried to talk to the entire family and introduce herself while not being aware that my husband and I are the only English-speakers, so it was just very off. She should have all the information about the family staying in the chalet, and I still don't understand her role in the entire organization of things. The second time we saw her was on the day of check-out and she asked whether we need a ride into town, which was such an off question as we had our own car and were packing up to leave - not sure when we were supposed to have a trip to town on top of that. Our advice would be to have one of the hosts be a point of contact for everything during the entire stay rather than having so many people coming in and out for introductions and information. Additionally, we had only just arrived and barely got a breath to relax before having an orientation speech with about five people present, when only two of us really spoke English and it could have been done much more discretely. Organization could have been a bit smoother and less formal. 

We had an injury during the stay and Gary was very thorough in communication, and followed up with us the next day to make sure everything was ok, which was appreciated. 

Overall, a wonderful holiday but as value-for-money goes, it is expensive for what it is relative to other European Alp countries for what you get.

A Wonderful Holiday

Booked the chalet for 9 of us. Gary was really accommodating as the chalet capacity was 8 but allowed my brother to bunk in the tv room and as we were all pals it was a great set up and my brother had absolutely no complaints about his living arrangements. The upstairs 3 bedrooms were beyond fantastic with large spacious rooms, excellent bathroom facilities, shower was amazing and view from the bed outstanding. And we had a balcony which was lovely. The downside was the twin room in the basement wasn’t really fit for purpose for two grown men, bathroom had no door thus no privacy, no window so it was dark and unwelcoming and there was no room to swing a cat. The boys ended up moving a bed into the huge tv room and my brother moved into the “bedroom”. Gary was great about this and we came to an agreement financially to everyone’s satisfaction. The food for the meat eaters was good with no problems, but I am a pescatarian (normally eat fish once a week) and my diet was provided well in advance and was told “no problem”. However my supper soon fell below standard, I was carbohydrate overloaded and eventually had to complain. Unfortunately for me I didn't complain right away, I left it until the Thursday and by then I was having serious stomach issues. However, when brought to the attention of Gary and Emma they jumped to the rescue and things were sorted out. Just a shame that the chef Dave really didn't know how to cater for vegetarians. Can I just add though, that his minestrone soup was probably the best I'd ever tasted and could quite happily have eaten it every day!

We had nibbles with wine before our meals each night which was a lovely touch whilst we all gathered in the lounge. Must say, the lounge area didn't really have enough sitting couches for 8 people (which the chalet normally caters for). 6 people yes, 8 people no - it was a tight squeeze.

The food for the meat eaters was brilliant which was the feedback that I got back from the group. Plenty of it, always cooked very well and all had happy bellies at the end of the evening. The food problems were with me only but as I said, when brought to Gary's attention, we sorted it out and he was very quick to do this too. Emma may I add, was also brilliant. 

Paul was the main transport guy and he took us and from the slopes each day - thanks Paul! Afternoon tea and cake was delicious every day - Dave can make a good cake, no doubt about that. The hot tub was a great welcome to everyone.

Wine and beer was flowing each night and no hassle at all and we just helped ourselves and Paul would go out and buy us extra and we would just pay him back if it was for personal use other than evening meal.

The one issue had was with the chef Dave. I won't go in to too much but it was embarrassing to say the least and at the end of the week when we told Gary about it he was horrified and said that if we had told him at the start of the week when the issue occurred, he would have swapped chefs with another chalet. That was our fault for not reporting it sooner and again, the ole British thing about not wanting to complain. However, when we brought wrong doings to Gary's attention, he was prompt to sort things out.

Would we stay there again - absolutely would stay there again. However, I wouldn't be putting any grown mean in the room downstairs. The rooms upstairs are absolutely luxuriously superb and probably when we next come to Chamonix, we will stay here again (if Gary will have us back).

Great get together with old friends

We have just completed a week ski holiday with Valley Fever at chalet Signal. 
We had a fantastic time and were very well looked after. 
Excellent communication whilst booking and up to arrival. Lots of useful information. 
Great help booking ski school, list passes and ski hire. 
The pick up and drop offs to the slopes were much appreciated and really did make the experience. We felt like VIP’s 
The food was great quality and well prepared with attention to detail by our hosts. Our hosts were lovely and very attentive too. We had canapés pre dinner and a lovely meal every night along with breakfast and afternoon tea. Wine was free flowing and our hosts really looked after us. 
The chalet was as expected and the hot tub a real treat. 
You can not fault valley Fever and the holiday was just great and offered exceptional value for money. 
I would not hesitate to recommend Valley Fever. 
A big thanks to Gary and his team. We had a brilliant time.
