The lady who greeted us spoke brilliant English and was very helpful and extremely friendly, made us feel very welcome and at home straight away after a long hard, hot day on the road.  They have a private car park down the side of a one way street (if you approach it from the front of the hotel) and not obvious that it belongs to the hotel. We went around the block and parked in an open lot, walked back to the hotel where the lady gave us better instructions on how to get in and the code to open the private gate. Good area for parking and very secure.  We were in room 29 which although 3 floors up was spacious, airy and a lovely view of the Loire. No elevator so make sure you are fit or ask for a room on a lower floor. There is no air conditioning but we had the windows open and there was a fan in the room, and let’s face it, most of the Logis quaint hotels do not have air con so if you think it is going to be warm ask for a quiet room, high up so you can open a window.   We had the window open all night and so lovely to have the fresh air in the room, woken by a gorgeous sunrise and the lovely view of the Loire in the morning, very quiet, not even a rowdy dawn chorus!.  Had the most fun at the evening meal with the most wonderful waitress with a wicked and dry sense of humour, she was extremely helpful and we appreciated her wit, after all we are british and need telling off once in a while!!!  Not laughed like that in a long time and all added to the comfortable feeling you get when staying at this hotel. The menu is quite small, only a choice of 3 starters, mains and desserts for €27 which was a great price and get the impression that the menu changes often and a lengthy menu is really not necessary, the quality is what matters and it was all very good. The service was very professional in the dining room which was a nicely decorated space and very airy, also had dining outside and a patio for drinks.  Breakfast was great as there was a choice of different breakfasts at different prices and after 3 weeks travelling around France and staying at different hotels, it was really nice not to have to eat cheese, ham etc…. and just to choose to have a simple bread,  croissant, jam, juice and coffee at €9. Great place to stay if you are visiting the chateau as it is just literally across the road and the hotel offer discounted tickets. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Very pleasant stay!

A warm welcome at reception, my wife’s case was carried up two flights of stairs to our room which was small - especially the bathroom - but clean and modern, and the beds very comfortable. The lack of A/C could have been a problem, but our room was at the side of the hotel and the road outside was quiet at night, so we were able to leave the windows open. The problem? We checked in, picked up the room key and went for a walk. We returned later and entered the restaurant. “We’re fully booked,” came the response. I told the waitress we were hotel guests, and got the annoyed reply “Why didn’t you say so? You can eat on the terrace behind the restaurant.” When we arrived there, we were told the hotel only serves drinks there. I told the waiter what the waitress had said, and he agreed we COULD eat. He brought the menu and I ordered a beer to go with my meal. The beer arrived, but nobody came to take our food order. After twenty minutes, we got up and left. I explained what had happened to the waiter, but there was no sign of an apology.

Very pleasant hotel, with one unnecessary negative

Lovely meal for dinner.
Comfortable bed and clean bedroom.
Most of the staff have humour and are ready to help.
But beware on hot spring or summer days, as there is no air conditioning : in those conditions, avoid south oriented bedrooms that turn into heat traps!

MISERABLE ATTITUDE at reception.  The woman would not crack a smile, little eye contact but worst of all... she turned her back and walked away during our mid-sentence.  Definitely NOT  a warm greeting... especially since no international travellers due to covid! What a grouch...unlike most other hotel reception.  Beyond that, a very empty hotel gave us a front road facing room that was small, even in European standards.  Thin lace window coverings: blocked out zero sun and privacy!

STAY AWAY!

This charming hotel is perfectly located for visiting the Domaine Chaumont sur Loire. We stayed in a rented apartment, and had dinner at the hotel. Surprising to find such a gourmet meal in this little village, and absolutely affordable prices. Highly recommended!

Lovely dinner in this traditional old hotel

I am eating here, sporadically , for the past 12 years. Every time when I am in that area , I stop by and get lunch or dinner.
The view from the restaurant is great, you can see the Loire River. The kitchen is elaborated, using local products from fish to meat , and the chef remains very good.
Today I had a nice family lunch where , on main plate, I tested a baby pig leg with mushrooms and polenta. The experience was great and I decided to write a review, my first one for this place, after all those year.
I strongly recommend, if you go by to see the CHaumont castle or the International Gardens Festival, stop by and try the kitchen.

One of the best restaurant between Blois and Amboise

We were in a group of nine cycling in Loire Valley and L'Hostellerie du Chateau was our second stop. We arrived in the afternoon and we were exhausted, upon arrival we were nicely welcomed and taken to our rooms where our luggage was already waiting for us. The building is old but well maintained, and rooms are very comfortable, but the best is the owners and employees being attentive to the smallest detail. It was June and it was very hot and ar conditioning is not very common in the region. However they provided fans to every room. They took care of our laundry for very small fee and 1 night we missed dinner, Monsieur prepared some charcuterie et fromages for us after hours. The restaurant was excellent by the way. The same family that owns the hotel takes care of the meals. Food is exquisite and very well presented and portions were great. 
The only advice I have is in regards to the strong taste and scent of the Andouillete - sausage made with pork intestines. It's a regional delicatessen but it may not be for everybody. We were not advised and didn't read about the Andouillete, and it came as a surprise but then we laugh a lot. Now it became one of our good stories of this trip to tell forward.  Hotel and restaurant are higly recommended.

Booked this hotel as part of a cycling tour of the Loire.  We travelled during the heatwave with temperatures reaching 40.  The hotel contacted us before our arrival warning that they had no air conditioning.  The offered to cancel our booking with no charge and to assist in finding alternative accommodation.  Excellent service.
The staff worked really hard but always with a smile to serve excellent lunches and dinners.
The pool was a welcome oasis in the blistering heat.  
I will def. return and would highly recommend this hotel.

Great hosts

This hotel was booked for us on our walking tour of the Loire Valley. It is literally just across the street from one of the main entrances to the chateau and gardens. The staff were very helpful on our checkin and we were able to purchase discount tickets to the chateau directly from the hotel. They brought our bags up to the rooms (always appreciated!) and we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner there. The evening dinner was delightful and the wait staff were very attentive throughout our meal. This hotel has a pool but we didn’t use it (wish we had!). The rooms were clean and fans and water were provided to help with the heat. So thoughtful! We had a nice overnight here before getting back on the trail the next morning.

I always try and give fair and honest reviews, I don't generally review harshly, and I'm not prone to rant, but this hotel was the worst experience I've had in years so I'm going to. Feel free to check out my many other reviews to find somewhere much better than this to stay on the  river Loire. The village was very shabby with nothing worth stopping here for. There are much more charming towns to see nearby.

When we booked via Booking.com I asked for a quiet room as I always do. I recieved a reply that the standard room I booked is on the street side but for an extra cost I could have a "Superior" room overlooking the garden. I asked how much it would cost and the exact reply was "The rate will be at 113.85 euros, breakfast is in supplement." To me this means that the supplemented cost for the Superior room is €113.85 and the breakfast is included in the supplement. It wasn't. The "Superior" room wasn't either. It was small, with dated fixtures and fittings, but clean enough. 

When we arrived, I was a bit concerned about leaving our bikes in the garden, out of sight of the hotel,  next to a gate which appeared to be left unlocked - we saw people coming in and out with deliveries etc. We got to our room and we could hear what sounded like someone holding a vacuum cleaner outside our window. When we looked, there was no garden view, but a view of the flat roof of the restaurant with a huge, noisy extractor fan from the kitchen. How on Earth could this ever be considered a quiet room? In fact, there are no quiet rooms in this hotel: the "superior" rooms will all hear the fan, and the standard rooms the busy road at the front of the hotel. Obviously I went down and explained to the reception that I wasn't happy about paying extra for a quiet room that turned out to be the noisiest room I ever stayed in, and she couldn't care less. "it will turn off when the restaurant closes" was the only help offered here. It did finally turn off late at night, which allowed us to hear the busy main road across the river and the high speed rail line. No need for an alarm, the fan will wake you up in time for breakfast! In an attempt to cut back the noise problem here, they have installed newish looking double glazing. Unfortunately they didn't invest in air conditioning and it was very hot so we had to leave the windows open. This also allows the Loire mosquito's to eat you alive during the night.

If you fancy a few beers after a hard days cycling you will find the most expensive pint of beer I ever had to pay for in my life, and I have drunk a lot of beer over the last 40 years. The breakfast was poor and also very overpriced. We would never have paid for it if we didn't think it was included in the price.

The worst was yet to come, as on checking out I mentioned the issue I had regarding being deceived into paying extra for a "quiet" room and also being charged for a breakfast I honestly thought was included. At this point, a good hotelier would apologise for the noise and offer to refund the breakfast as it was a genuine misunderstanding. This receptionist was not a good hotelier. I think she thought I wasn't going to pay - I never said that - and started ranting at me in a rude and aggressive manner. "We are not in a park!" was her reasoning for the noisy fan. I have never experienced anything like it at a hotel. She was so rude and unprofessional, I was starting to get angry, but I wasn't going to let her make me lose my temper so I just paid and left.

This is a terrible hotel. The UK used to be full of bad hotels like this until the Premier Inn arrived offering better rooms at half the price and put them out of business. There are many better places to stay, I strongly suggest you don't stay here.
