Excellent - punching well above its 3 star rating weight. All staff very very helpful and kind - drying wet clothing assisting with lots of luggage without being asked etc etc.  Restaurant food was really good exceptional quality taste and presentation way above what you’d expect.  Rooms tasteful and quiet and very well equipped with lovely bath robes and plenty of soft large towels.  Great find and we’re glad we found it.

Fabulous find!

Madame v solicitous. Showed us to room and where everything  was. We stayed in a superior double room which was as well equipped as a 5 star hotel with robes, tissues, shower cap, kettle etc.  We were given fresh milk for tea (we’d bought our own English breakfast tea!) Bed v comfortable. Our room was quiet even though there was a music festival in the town.
Restaurant a lovely surprise. Excellent service. Meal good with an interesting menu. Buffalo cheese foam and tomatoes. Chicken stuffed with chorizo. Dessert of red fruits with sprinkling of crumble so not too heavy. Lovely champagne and local white wine.
Breakfast magnificent. Madame brought us boiling water for our tea and again showed us the wonderful breakfast spread: croissants, French bread, home made jams, home made yoghourt (creamy and delicious with the jam!), home made cake, ham, cheese, fruit salad. A lovely hotel.

Nice and cosy 
Really tired after a day on the road this was a very good place to rest. Quiet, good rooms, nice dinner restaurant. The breakfast deserves a special mention, lots of fantastic home made stuff. I can definitely recommend it, now fully rested ready for a new day on the road.

Nice and cosy

The unprepossessing exterior and reception misrepresent the standards that this hotel have aimed for and achieved. The room was contemporary and the bathroom was ultra modern. A great heating system, robes, tea making facilities ,  a large comfortable bed, plus excellent food in the small downstairs restaurant made our stay extremely pleasurable. The complimentary pate and biscuits with drinks in the “homely” upstairs bar were another great touch. There are no lifts. The quirky nature of some of the interior is part of the charm. Can recommend for a stopover.

Good location for an overnight stopover

Good location on the western edge of the compact town centre, next to a little park from which there are views over the old town.  Within easy walking distance of other restaurants and a big cinema complex.  My room was small - squeezing past the bed to the wardrobe - but clean and well-equipped: TV, tea-making set, minibar (i.e. a useful fridge for the cheese I bought), bathrobe, an iron...  Very quiet at night, even with the window open.
Breakfast was pricey, but worth it!  Basically an extensive buffet, but I also had oranges freshly squeezed and an egg boiled and brought to my table - a  princely experience.  Street parking right outside the hotel is free between 18:00 and 09:00, and not expensive in the daytime.
I liked the friendly welcome and would definitely choose this hotel again if I revisit Chaumont (as long as I can manage the stairs, as there is no lift).

Ideal location and pleasant stay

15 minutes from the A5, Chaumont is about half way from Calais to the Alps. The old town is a bit grey on a dismal day, but charming, none the less. The church is partly medieval and a short distance further on is a shopping area buzzing with life. 

Madame, who greeted us at the hotel and showed us to our room, was charming. The room was very clean, a 5' bed and a good sized shower room. No blind at the window which was a bit unnerving at night! Also the hand soap for the washbasin was too high and constricted by its housing. The hand towel rail was fixed too tightly to the basin making it hard to replace the towels. Otherwise a very nice shower room! The bed was comfortable. Room 18.

Breakfast was a buffet with a rather taciturn waiter.

Recently refurbished & very convenient position.

the hotel is not far from the autoroute and was easy to find and park, our room was well appointed and warm, very convenient. the hotel being in part of the ramparts was charming. We had our dinner in their restaurant and although my fish ( Skate wing ) was good my wife moules were very small and dried. otherwise we had a pleasant stay.

over night stop

We enjoyed our dinner in the Brasserie with a most generous self-service buffet for starters. The room and bathroom were a little cramped but with every amenity, including bathrobes. On leaving, my wife inadvertantly left her vanity case in reception but a phone call from our destination identified it and the hotel agreed to have someone on duty the following Sunday afternoon (when they are normally closed) so that we could collect it on our return journey. That's what I call service!

Great Service

On our way back from the South we had booked this hotel for our last stay. It was new to us and we loved it. It is charming, the room we stayed in (18) was absolutely lovely, spacious with all the important things that don't seem to be available everywhere else (iron, mini bar, hairdryer). The staff were extremely helpful and professional and parking was safe and secure. The town itself is lovely and we ate out having read the reviews we will eat in next time as we have already booked for next year. Wholeheartedly recommend
