We regularly go to Les Voyageurs for coffee, but occasionally have lunch and this week it was really good.

I had one of their burgers and my wife had a dish new to us, Chicken breast with a chestnut puree and mushrooms. 

As ever the staff were really nice.

Really Nice lunch

Had the Christmas menu on Friday night, which was delicious and inventive.
The new owners are welcoming and attentive. Good to have a proper restaurant in Chef-Boutonne after 2 years of closure.
We had oysters or prawns for the first stater followed by a Fois Gras Raviole or slices of Fois Gras with toast.
Main course was Margret de Canard, cooked to perfection, severed with a red berry sauce, roasted fig and a stack of beetroot and crème fraîche mixture.
Dessert was choice from the menu.
À pastis for my husband a 50c carafe of red wine and a coffee, total bill 75€

Delicious meal

I go to this part of France every year and always come here for meals and or drinks.The food is excellent and the setting is brilliant (especially if you like people watching!).
It is run by Laurent who is lovely, an absolute gentleman. 
I would highly recommend this place.

Great friendly restaurant.

I was surprised when looking up this place on the internet, as I thought it was just a restaurant with both indoor and outdoor dinning. I had no idea it is also a small hotel, but judging by the standard set by the proprietors I would have no problems staying a few nights here. My Aunt and Uncle when staying at their French summer property use this little gem of a place as their local social venue to catch up with friends over  a few drinks and the occasional meal. .  Whilst staying with them for a few days my wife and I  had the pleasure of experiencing this culture and the warmth of the locals and other Brits who reside in this part of France during the summer months. The atmosphere was so friendly and the proprietors  (Laurent and Helene) play a big part in setting the mood.  Our many thanks to them for  treating us as part of their little community, we really enjoyed ourselves.  Pam and  Roger  are very lucky  to have this place  only a short distance away.  PS: Thanks Laurent for going out of your way and sourcing another bottle of that delicious red wine for me, much appreciate.  So fellow travelers,  If you are passing of staying near this region of France, then give this place a try, trust me you will not be disappointed.

A great place for a drink, conversation and a quality meal

A surprise as it looked like a cafe, but hidden was the restaurant which was lovely, tables, seats, all looked good, and the food we ordered, really well presented, and filling.. overall a very nice place to finish our French holiday.. thanks to the serving staff.. all good. 

Last night in France

Simple , very clean room, comfortable beds.  Right in the centre of the small town. he food is very, very good, not expensive, the proprietors are very welcoming and helpful The whole stay was excellent value

Good short stay venue

I have had the misfortune of going to the Les Voyagers twice last week.

To be fair the first time the food was okay, and the service from the the man (who I can only assume was the owner) was on this occassion brusque and bullish. But not the level of rude and offensive  behaviour that the next visit was to offer up from him.

On our final night we fancied a little treat, so decided to go out again. I fancied heading to the local pizzeria, as I didn't fancy another round of being treated like an unpleasant afterthought by the gentleman.

But as the pizzeria was holding a tickets only do and we hadn't got any tickets. We were given the option of going to dinner at Les Voyagers. 

We arrived around 7:30 myself my wife, her cousin, who is a resident in Chef Boutonne. And our children aged 3 and 7.

As we arrived two tables were reserved for parties. Respecting this we approached an empty unreserved table. At which point our host (the same gentleman) began to lecture my wife's cousin about not booking ahead. We explained if it was a problem we would go. But he made a table for us crashing and smashing as he went. 

We waited for 20 minutes to be offered a drinks order. At this time the restaurant was not busy and this felt a little like an unpleasant aside from our host, for putting him out.

When the drinks order we ordered some of the house red off tap. Which we had on the occassion before, and was pleasant enough. But this time tasted of treatment line cleaner.

I ordered from the set menu. My kids from the kids menu. My wife and her cousin had moules and frites.

My starter came with their moules, and was good. It was finished and tidied away. 

I waited for my steak and fries, as my wife waited for the bread that she asked the waitress for. Which eventually came after a long wait of around 20 minutes and was two small pieces of baguette lost in the big basket. When my wife asked for some more bread (and I really can't believe this happened, but did) the waitress pulled the bread from the table next to us, from which the family who had just been eating, and then left, and gave it to her. 

The ladies finished their Moules, I waited for my mains. At one point the waitress realised that my order had been taken to another table and was apologetic, which was fine. I even joked with the young  waitress when they did bring my food over.

The steak was there. I like mine rare, with some salt seasoning. This was touch fried on one side, and rare on the other, with no salt seasoning at all.

My children were given ice cream. One was given a spoon. But for my three year old boy, the waitress dropped his spoon on the table, then put it on the mains plate. She apologized and said she would get another one. However she didn't return, my 7 year old child had finished her ice cream. Whilst my 3 year waited and waited. Unable to get the waitresses or Manager/owners attention, and with my son's ice cream turning to goop. My wife's cousin went to the bar to ask for a spoon. She went slightly behind the bar to get a spoon  as she saw the were available and the Manager/owner was busy. At this point he began to shout abuse at her, which made her feel extremely uncomfortable. She explained it was for a three year old child whose ice cream was melting, and had no spoon. The man carried on shouting at her .

My wife asked for a cheese plate after my dessert had been bought out. I asked the manager/owner for an espresso. He openly sneered and laughed at me, so much so I had to check with my wife if he had just done that or was I imagining it. It was confirmed as downright weird and rude behaviour.

We waited another 30 minutes for the requested coffee and cheese board. By which point I'd had enough of pointless waiting and went to ask the owner for the bill.

To find him shouting unpleasantly at his female staff team (I pity them). He saw me waiting and ignored me. Fair enough (maybe) he was busy. When another young man came to the bar he went to the bar served him then came to me. I asked for the bill he saw my espresso still sat at the coffee machine, then preceded to shout "your coffee" whilst banging it against the surface of the machine repeatedly. I made sure it wasn't on the bill.

At the same point as this the cheese board finally arrived, and the fun continued. 

Three cheeses were presented, with the smallest slivers of cheese. One a goats cheese the actual dimensions of a two euro coin. And two other cheeses also as thin. And again two dried ends of baguette. I asked my wife if she wanted it. She said no. So I returned it to the manager/owner, untouched, explaining we didn't want it.

I then paid the bill minus the 5 euros for the cheese. Placing down the money on  bar, and telling him two words very cold and clear. Monsiuer, le dargent.

I think this may have played into his alpha male attitude, as he attempted to call me back at this point. And if there was a problem. I told him there was but I had had enough.

We were packing up to leave when he came out to our table. I thought possibly to apologise, but should have known better. He slammed the plate down on the table demanded 5 euros more.

We refused explaining we wouldn't pay for the cheese plate. He began shouting at me that he wanted 5 euros. Again we explained we had taken the cheese board back. And would not in any terms pay for it. I also tried to explain to him that I thought his attitude absolutely stank.

So in review, Chef Boutonne has two restaurants, but if I were you I would stick to the other, the pizzeria across the road. 

I also think this dynamic allows this business owner to feel that his attitude towards customers (and apparently staff) is untouchable.

Hopefully he will change his aggressive and troubling attitude. But I doubt it.



Food was average. But the service was poorest I have ever received in my life. Repugnant behaviour from the owner.
