We were on a canal trip and were very eagerly looking forward to dining here.  We had been here several years back and it was a great experience - we had told many people about it and encouraged them to try it if they were nearby.  It is a lovely setting and quite unique - this could be (and used to be) a gem, now it is a travesty of a restaurant.
So this evening we came for dinner, we not very pleasantly greeted.  It seemed Madame will acknowledge and seat you when she decides.
We were finally seated - it was half full with diners, however it was eerily silent.  I realize that it a chapel setting and most of us would tend to lower our voices anyway, but this was like a tomb!  it would have added a great touch to have had some gentle, tasteful music being played - since it was so silent, clearly there was no ambiance at all.  People were barely whispering to each other, it at all.
Madame was the only staff member present, so when she got to you, then she got to you.  It took 45 minutes to be able to request a bottle of wine, and some water.
We ordered, received our meal and couldn't believe just how awful it was.  Food is subjective, however, so many simple places serve simple, but good tasting food - this did not qualify at all.  Madame's husband was the cook - i would not use the word chef.  
Madame needs to find a different career, she is not hospitable by any means, she is basically a surly and indifferent server.
What an incredible disappointment - there is no excuse for such surly, slow service and terrible food.

Deeply disappointed

My husband and I arrived just after 7pm to an empty dining room. The owner seated us and then went and sat down with two other people to continue talking with them. No offer of a drink or menu. We nearly walked out after ten minutes of waiting but others started to arrive so we stayed. We motioned to the owner as she walked past but she curtly said in French 'I am coming'. Eventually she came to take our order and again we waited even for our first drink. She had an inexperienced woman helping her who tried her best. Food arrived, starter mediocre, main course was not the salmon we ordered but felt we couldn't complain as we'd have to wait again for salmon to be cooked. The unidentifiable fish was over cooked. Dessert was creme caramel which the owner put a sprig of flowers on. One would have thought that the flower would be edible.....non! We tried a petal and asked the owner if we could/should eat it. She said we could if we liked but she wouldn't! She said it was Hortensia which turned out to be Hydrangea - mildly toxic! Other people in the restaurant were having a tough time too. It's a pity as the room was lovely with a vaulted chapel ceiling, decor and furniture very tired. Owner's attitude was reprehensible, as though she was doing us a favour! Would not recommend this place at all.

Awful

Slightly surprised by some of the reviews on here. Sure, the rooms and setting are slightly dated (although our room was spotlessly clean), but the dinner experience is marvellous, with a lovely setting in the old chapel and a very wide and tasty menu (with an English version).

Superb food

Beautiful setting; former church with stained glass windows, period pieces and works of art.  Gorgeous mural above the bar.  Nice tapestries. However, with no working knowledge of French, it was extremely difficult (in fact, impossible) to order.  Limited and confusing menu with no options.

Dinner

We booked for one night and very glad that's all it was.
The initial welcome, or not as it was, was  not a good impression to start off with.
The room was small and the bathroom smelt of stale urine from the carpet. The shower tray was, well how do I describe it, yuck!
Basically unless your really desperate for a roof over your head don't bother.
Food in the restaurant was ok but the couple that own and run the restraunt good be a lot happier in providing a service!
