Eric welcomed us on arrival. Showed us to our rooms. Spacious rooms with comfortable beds and big bathrooms. Beautifully decorated, snd garden for kids to play, chickens, swings. Totally recommend this place  if you  are looking for a unique, beautiful, and comfortable home from home.

Clerey is an Old village south of Troyes, france with NO NEW buildings, only old traditional houses restored to today’s standard.  Really close to A5 and A26 highways. There are three pleasant walking tracks available and described in a depliant you can find at this guest house; The Cler’hier guest house is one of the old building with an spacious garden a retro gazebo and a surprising breakfast room.  In summer you can actually have a bath in the Seine river because there is a small beach nearby. The rooms are actual, modern, the bathrooms are WIDE the beds comfy. Champagne is LOCAL first of all and available in your bedroom to order. Nice stay.

Really nice

Convenient location en route. Clean. Quiet. Friendly owner.  Lighting a bit dim, bed creaky, but generally perfect for a quick stop. Beautiful farm conversion dining room for simple but good continental breakfast. Fixed menu dinner available if booked >24 hours in advance : next time would definitely be tempted.

Excellent stop over

This is a really pretty place to enjoy a stopover. Lovely garden with a number of little seating areas, it was very charming. The owner was very welcoming and the rooms well appointed. It was obvious that children of all ages are welcome, and well catered for, from babies upwards. They don't provide dinner every night so ask when you book as there isn't much else around. I'd also have appreciated the chance to get a cold beer or glass of wine after our 800km drive, but I think you need to bring your own. Would certainly stay here again. 

Lovely stopover! 

Eric produced a superb meal for us in his fantastic dining room.The house has been tastefully decorated and the room was very comfortable.Eric helped us with local information .The wines served wefre of good quality.

Delicious food

Troyes is a very useful stopping off place near the motorways half way between the Channel and the south of France. Clérey is just to the south of Troyes and has the same lovely old wattle and daub architecture. The owners of La Cler’Hier have renovated the old farm, which has been in the family for generations. The room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable and we enjoyed a lovely French breakfast of croissants and French bread whilst chatting to the owner. The wifi was a bit shaky in the room, but this tends to be a problem in old houses with thick walls. As it is a very small guesthouse then you get personal service – we found the suggestions of a local walk and excellent local French restaurant very helpful. Some of the fittings are more trendy than practical.

Beautifully restored farmhouse in a convenient location

This is a little way from the autoroute (about 15 minutes) but in a pleasant quiet position.  Our bedroom was to the standard of a good hotel and the renovation of this old family farmhouse was pleasing.   Our host Eric greeted us on arrival and cooked supper which we had already booked.  The meal was good home cooking standard with four courses and plenty of wine starting with a local champagne.  The meals are taken with other guests on a large table, inside or outside depending on weather.  There were no other guests for supper which we took with Eric and his wife who speaks good English.  We enjoyed our stay very much.

If you read the blurb you would believer they cooked for you if you wanted.
We checked a few days before and were told it was not possible.
After a long journey that was one of the reasons for staying there

Not as on the tin

We booked this place on the way back from the Alps with our 20 month old son, and requested the Foret d'Orient room as it was specifically set up for babies.

The accommodation is some of the highest standard I have ever seen for a B&B, with immaculate and tastefully decorated rooms, fantastically well equipped with a cot, a top of the range changing table and baby products etc.  I was blown away by the décor, and standard of the set up of both bedroom and bathroom.

The Guenin family are utterly charming and very welcoming.  We sadly weren't able to eat as there was a family event on that day, however we ate some food from the supermarket on the lovely terrace over looking the garden.  Eric appeared with a glass of wine and a selection of local cheese and bread, all of which were superb.  We had a long and enjoyable conversation with both Eric and his wife long into the evening, and they both lovely and very friendly people.  Madame Guenin kindly provided a toy for our son to play with which was a lovely gesture.

Breakfast was delicious with a big selection of bread and croissants, some superb home made jam (make sure you try the raspberry before it all goes!) and some delicious cherry cake. Copious amounts of tea and coffee, and fruit juice were also provided.

I would only have two observations, that are in no way criticisms at all of the stay.  There is free wifi however the signal is quite weak, but given the thickness of the walls and the age of the building that's hardly a surprise. The bed also came with a bolster and a large square cushion/pillow neither of which are to my taste personally, I prefer a good hard pillow, but it mattered not, a good nights sleep was had.

This is a hidden gem, and a place I will be recommending to anyone who wants a place to stay in this part of France.  Thanks Eric and family, we will be back again.

A friendly welcome, comfortable room and delicious meal (Champagne with home made nibbles, followed by main course, cheese, desert and coffee, accompanied by good wines). Breakfast typically French with fresh home made cake.
