Stayed here for two nights in the Louis XVI room and as the name suggests the room is fit for royalty. 
This place is carefully renovated and all the rooms and the garden has a personal touch. You can really see there is a lot of effort behind all the beautiful decorations both inside and outside the castle. 
We have already booked another stay here on our way back. 


Feel like a royalty

How many people get to stay in a Chateau as old as this.   We stayed in the Louis XVI suite and really felt like royalty.  It was so lovely we really didn’t want to leave it, but of course we did to explore the garden and if you have the time stop and enjoy a coffee in the sunny garden.   The Chateau had its own excellent coffee machine, buy a pastry and soak up the atmosphere and imagine the people who have sat in this garden over the centuries.   Sharon and Jacque were wonderful and friendly and Sharon was so helpful in assisting me in making a booking at short notice.   You must ask Jacques to show the video of the restoration of the Chateau.   The furniture, carpets drapes were so in keeping the in period of the Chateau.   We particularly liked the high ceilings.

Wonderful 11th Century Chateau.

Beautiful fairy tale castle, views, charming hosts, ravishing garden and plenty of things to do around. Rafting cycling hiking you name it. Recommended. Embrun is a nice little town with good restaurants (the one in crots is so so).

Dream castle

Stumbled upon this fabulous chateau BnB in Crots, France, in the French Alps. The owners, Sharon and Jacques, treat you like guests in their home, which you are...they live on the third floor. Jacques even sat down and chatted over breakfast, which was delightful.
Over 1000 years of history in the building, all beautifully restored. Garden in back, views of the lake and mountains, even a recent best selling book written about the history of the place (only in French at this point.)Wn't give away the story, they will tell you when you go. If you ever find yourself in the French Alps, make a diversion to stay for a few nights. Chateau Picomtal. Probably the unexpected highlight of our month in France. 
I am sure any room would be great, but I think the best might be the two in the back facing the garden, as they have small terraces so you could sit outside.  Views of the lake and mountains of course would be nice, but not sure if there is a way to enjoy the view from inside those rooms unless standing?  I believe we had the smallest room, and while not large, it was delightful and more than we expected!  To be honest, we almost did not make the reservation as we thought for the reasonable price, it must not be very good...how wrong we were!
Jacques made reservations for us at a restaurant in town, Chez Pierrot, not too far to walk if you don't want to take the car.  Very good pizza, and other dishes were also good. Outside is by FAR preferable if the weather permits, or if you are inside be sure not to side near the bathroom/fish pond.
If we are anywhere near Chateau de Picomtal again, we will detour to be able to stay again.  Thanks Sharon and Jacques.

Find a reason to stop by!

We stayed here for two nights and wish we'd made it longer. The Chateau, its gardens and location are outstanding. We had a top floor room with views over the lake and mountains. The Chateau itself and its furnishings are just wonderful.
Breakfast was great - local produce (very local jams - from the garden).
Jacques and his wife were very welcoming to my wife, children and I. 
There is plenty to do nearby and we spent two days on the lake which was great for the kids. 
I certainly hope we will spend more time exploring this part of France in the future and hopefully trips back to the Chateau.
We had dinner in Crots - a short walk from the hotel. I can't recall the name but its a small place and I think the only restaurant in that village. Food and setting was good/pleasant. All in all a great experience
