If you need, for some reason, to stay in Douai, then look no further than the Hotel du Grand Cerf. It's nice (if unremarkable), it's clean, the staff are friendly - everything you need if you need somewhere to sleep.

It's fairly well-placed in the town for bars and restaurants (there aren't loads of either), and the station is nearby too. I can highly recommend the Brasserie Le Saint George (seems to be known as the Pub Le Saint George online) a few hundred metres away - nice food and decent beer.

There's plenty of nearby parking too (not free).

Very decent

Welcome fine, foyer characterless.  NO LIFT, my room was on the second floor and I wondered how I'd get out should there be a fire!  NO heating in the bathroom which was like a fridge.  I slept with the bathroom door wide open, it didn't close properly and had no lock.  In order to warm the bathroom you had to set the electric radiator to its highest setting but that wasn't much use as the radiator was a long way from the bathroom and then the bedroom was far too hot.  The carpet had not been hoovered, the bed was comfy and the bathroom clean. Soap is provided but nothing else.  There are NO facilities for making tea or coffee in your room.  At breakfast the coffee machine wasn't functioning correctly and the two young girls, although helpful, couldn't do a thing about it.  The boss had gone out and his assistant not available.  So no coffee for breakfast, had to make do with tea...  Otherwise the situation is very central, just off the high street  Sadly every third shop is closed with an estate agent's board in it.  Shame.  Otherwise architecturally the town is interesting and boasts some beautiful houses and monuments.

Very mixed

I stayed for the third time for one night in du Grand Cerf. The room en bathroom are clean and the bed is ok. Breakfast was also good en enough. WiFi was Not that good in my room. This is something where they can work on.

Nice staff, clean but no character.  Was unfortumate to stay here while roadworks ongoing outside the window at 7am - nothing the hotel can do but perhaps warn you and offer alternative??

Would have been nice to have one English speaking chanel on the TV, even if it were just news.

If the hotel read this - I'd suggest putting a sign up on the closed up door (on the 'main' street) advising that the entrance is around the corner- down the lane☺

Needs something

Advertised as two star and was, despite the room and bathroom being very clean and a fan provided as it was so hot. 

The foyer was clean and bright but the corridor carpets were filthy which put you off (although as said the rooms were clean). 

Parking was provided right outside and the reception staff were very hospitable.

Very central and good for one night through the town. Ate at La Terrasse which was delicious.
