I recently stayed at Cachette Anglaise for a long weekend with friends and didn’t want to leave!The grounds are stunning, with a new pool, views over the countryside and unbelievable sunsets. The main house and cottage are very comfortable and stylishly decorated. The breakfast was a highlight, with delicious fresh pastries and home made jam each day. The owners are very welcoming and treat you like family, nothing is too much. I’ll definitely be going back again! 

I’ll be back

I stayed in the guesthouse (Gite), which had clearly been recently renovated to a high standard. Catrin and Kim were hugely welcoming hosts with a great local knowledge of the surrounding activities and restaurants. They helped us organise bike rides, the local spa, great recommendations on where to eat and even helped us book some further accommodation when we left to go further south to the Pyrenees. The accommodation was perfect and our stay was super relaxing and quiet, the food was all locally sourced and great. The pool was the perfect for cooling off and reading a book by. Highly recommend.

Relaxing and peaceful with welcoming

Hosts were lovely and in a fantastic location! Amazing gardens around our own private gite. Pool was perfect for the hot weather and the food was delicious especially the BBQ! Look forward to going back.

Amazing countryside getaway

Thoughtful prepared and presented gite, suitable for families and couples alike. Immaculately clean, tidy and we'll looked after.  Everything you need is here to make your holiday go smoothly. Pool and sun terrace are perfect for first class rest and relaxation. Gardens big and perfect for football or even hide and seek. Good amenities in the local area, 20 mins drive to decent size supermarket/towns. Good links to Bordeaux via Autoroute. Left to our own devices by the Gite owner, but was available if required. In summary, highly recommend!

Fabulous family holiday.

We stayed in Catrin and Kim's gite in summer 2017. It's been recently renovated to a very high standard and is very comfortable for a family of 4. The pool was a great asset on long hot summer afternoons and kept our 2 boys busy and happy when we weren't out, and us too. We know the surrounding area very well and for us with local family the location was excellent. Good pastries from the best local baker at the nearby epicerie but get there early. Anyway, highly recommended.

Comfortable gite with great pool and views

We stayed at the gite in July. Upon arrival, we were met by Catrin, who was lovely and welcoming and showed us to the Gite at the back of the property. Everything outside looked beautiful. Catrin claimed to have spent 9 hours cleaning the gite which put our mind at rest due to the current Covid situation. Once inside however, we soon discovered that it wasn’t as clean as initially thought. There was significant dirt in the twin room shower and some of the cupboards in the kitchen were actually quite dirty, two even had dead crickets inside. We wiped all of these with our own anti bacterial spray. 

In the double bedroom I discovered fleas after feeling and then seeing one on my ankle.  We reluctantly told catrin, and felt extremely awkward and embarrassed for her. It was a horrible situation. Catrin came over to the gite with medical supplies, including antihistamines which I could not take due to being pregnant. Catrin then implied that perhaps we had brought the fleas into the property!!!! We don’t even own pets let alone have fleas!!! I couldn’t believe she would even imply this! She also stated that it could have been her previous guests who were workers. Absolutely passing the buck! There were several barn cats all around the property that were constantly trying to get in that evening, and seemed very familiar waiting at the door, so at this point, I guessed this could be the issue. My partner couldn’t even get out to the car at one point, as each time he tried, the cat would try to get in to the gite. As it was late and we had been travelling for 14 hours by car, we decided to stay that night and leave the next day. We really didn’t want to, but didn’t have much choice at that time of night. I smothered myself in insect repellant to prevent any further bites as I am extremely susceptible, fortunately, I am allergic to mosquito bites, not flea bites, so my ankle didn’t swell too much. 

The next morning, Catrin informed us that she and her partner had checked their dog for fleas the previous evening and had found 2 on the dog, so she believed this was how the fleas got into the gite. We appreciated her honesty.

As we had already paid 30% of the full payment, as a kind gesture we asked catrin to deduct money for any water and electric used. It was a rushed exit so we didn’t have time to put the dishwasher on (not that we had used a great deal!) and we advised Catrin on leaving that we had put all bedding in the washing machine but had not turned it on as it was too full. We purely did this for her convenience so it was all in one place and we informed her of this. As this was a very short lived visit and extremely unexpected exit, we didn’t think it necessary to “abide by the terms and conditions” And put the dishwasher and washing machine on, as catrin’s T&C’s obviously do not cover the situation we found ourselves in. 

Catrin assured us that she would deal with the situation immediately and get the gite fumigated. We asked that catrin email me once she has deducted any money to advise how much she will be refunding. Due to the circumstances, we were under the impression that catrin was going to fumigate the gite the same day, and deal with the refund then too. By midweek, we still hadn’t heard from Catrin or received a refund so we emailed her politely asking when this would be dealt with. We tried to call catrin too, but to no avail. £240 is a lot of money considering we had to find somewhere else to stay at such short notice. We had a young child with us and I am pregnant. Catrin replied extremely bluntly and rudely stating that she works full time and will deal with it the following Saturday, including any maintenance or cleaning of the gite. This should have been done the same day we left given that there are fleas there?!! 

Over a week later, Catrin has finally refunded us £87, charging £151 for a terrible night. In her reasoning, (a ridiculously drafted statement!!) she indicates that we are lying and that there were not any fleas, despite me physically seeing the fleas, as well as a nasty bite coming up the following day which catrin saw herself. Catrin also admits that she found fleas on her dog!! She also states that because we only stayed one night, she had insufficient time to rebook the gite and we were subsequently charged late cancellation. This is unacceptable as we we were forced to leave due to something totally out of our control! Nobody should have to put up with fleas or this unfair treatment from the host. Catrin is simply passing the buck and failing to admit that there are fleas at the property.  

I would not recommend this gite to anyone. It is nowhere near worth what it costs per week, you should not have to put up with fleas, and the behaviour and treatment from the ignorant host afterwards has been awful. Stay away!!!!
