Le manoir Dordogne

One word of warning though: booking.com have the incorrect address for this place: they have it in the nearest town, which is about five miles away. Luckily the lady who runs the place emailed me with the correct address, and with that, it’s easy to find. The ‘room’ we stayed in is actually a self-catering, self-contained studio apartment in the manor house, complete with a little kitchen, private bathroom and living room and its own entrance. It has been decorated with exquisite taste, and there’s not a stick of furniture in it that I wouldn’t happily put into my own house. The people who run it couldn’t do enough for us, and were kind, generous and hospitable – gratefully received by a couple of weary travellers (and we were greeted enthusiastically by Ralph the dog). There is a restaurant/bar across the road, but this is closed in the evening in Winter (when we were there). The nearest eateries/shops are in the nearby town of Tocane St Apre, where there’s a supermarket and a selection of cafés and bars. The Manoir boasts facilities such as a swimming pool (open in the summer) and children’s play area, meaning that kids can run around in the safety of an enclosed garden. There are also regular music nights and a blues festival in the summer. This place completely bowled us over: we will definitely be returning.
