We booked a night in this family hotel after six days of hiking in the Pyrenees. We arrived a little early (actually very early, at 11am) and family run hotel had our room available within 30min - that was very sweet. Excellent room with a view to the Breche du Roland, nice shower, we later went to the sauna and we could even wash all the clothes for a fee. However, what we didn't expect was the absolutely excellent cooking - they run a very good restaurant. Excellent advanced cooking using outstanding local products. We will definitely come again! 

Great hotel with fabulous food

Have stayed before and knew what to expect. Perfect views, clean and very comfortable rooms and fine dining. Odile and Philippe always make us very welcome. Will return next year without any doubt and look forward to it immensely.

We were extremely satisfied with our stay. The location was good for our needs. There was ample parking for our large van. The room was charming, the lobby area is very comfortable, the bar was relaxed and modern, and the restaurant was top notch.

Lovely getaway

My friend and I stopped here for lunch: we asked for  vegetarian 
 and were treated to a delicious
and healthy  meal with lentils and quinoa.They specially prepared a vegetarian starter as well ( tapenade).Service was quick and friendly. Highly recommended,!

Excellent lunch

Lovely hotel with large free Car Park at the rear ( and a Tesla Supercharging Station).
Very friendly staff. Room was small but adequate and everything worked including the shower. Comfortable bed. Size of room was compensated for by the Balcony with views over the distant mountain peaks. Perfect for a one night stay.
Evening meal in the restaurant was superb. The Chef, and owner, came to check all was ok. The hotel has been in his family for 6 generations(or maybe more), its hard to remember after a great meal with good wine finished with a 20 year old Armagnac recommended by the Chef. A great nights stay!

Overnight stay

A beautiful hotel in an amazing location.  The room was clean, with a great view and the service was fast.  The restaurant and staff was also fantastic, I would highly recommend eating there at least once.

Fantastic Logis in the Haute Pyrénées... amazing views - you can actually see the ‘Brêche de Roland’, from the front of the hotel; wonderful breakfasts; just needs clearer descriptions on the table d’hôte : truite ou saumon?!

Magnifique !

Except for no air condition and the noise from passing traffic over the cobblestones outside the window, we found the hotel to be quite a pleasant place to stay. The room comfortable with a king size bed ~ room a bit on small size making it a bit difficult to lay out the suitcases. Modern style bathroom with a great shower.
Friendly and helpful staff. No bar fridge or kettle, but good free WIFI. Pleasant dining room that provided prompt service at dinner. Good cold buffet breakfast available from 7.30am.
 


Central Location 


Based on the location of this hotel in Gèdre, so near to Gavarnie, we decided to spend 3 nights at this 3 star hotel and restaurant. Having just spent a couple of nights at a couple of basic auberges (they were very nice though) we were looking forward to some better quality amenities. 

The outside looks nice with great views of the Pyrenees and the Breche de Roland out the front. There is a small terrace to sit with a drink and enjoy the views.

Reception was clean and modern and we were greeted by the very friendly Phillipe and Odile. Even though we arrived before check in time they happily took our bags and we left to visit the Cirque du Gavarnie.  When we returned they had taken our bags up to our room already. 

The room is where this visit started to go wrong.   It was very clean and modern, but very small and a view out the back of what appears to be an old broken down luge. We had to put our bags under the bed as there was not enough room for 2 people and 2 bags and still move around.  Then we discovered there was no room safe, even our smaller auberge provided that. Also, no kettle for tea and coffee, again we had those at the other auberges. The bed was reasonable size and comfy, fortunately it wasn’t to heavy either as we had to lift the bed up to get at our bags. The bedside tables were in fact two small boxes that really gave you little space to put things next to your bed.

There was a separate shower room and toilet which is fine but we found that the hairdryer in our bathroom was broken, the shower seal on the door had come off so the bathroom flooded when my wife showered ( I refitted it myself) and the lock on the door fell out if you tried to use it.  The shower was nice and powerful, very spacious and most of all, hot.

Lastly the walls between the rooms were very thin and you could hear the guests next door talking. With my snoring and my wife’s cough they must have had little sleep, sorry.

This was a busy hotel despite being early in the season and we were advised to book into the restaurant, which we did. The dining room was very modern again but very very cramped. The tables were all very close to one another with also a row of high tables that required stools to eat from, looked precarious and uncomfortable.

We began our meal by having an free amuse bouche, which was a tasty tomato and mint cold soup, very nice. We both went for the Asparagus and Coconut milk soup, which was ok but it came in a glass and not a bowl and instead of bread for dunking in your soup it came with a potato rosti, odd. The glass made the soup difficult to eat so in the end we just picked it up in our hands like a cup a soup!

Then came the main course, we both choose the lamb steaks. They were put on the table and it was immediately obvious they had been cooked earlier and reheated as when I lifted one steak up, which was very dry and brown, the one below was ok where it had been covered by the top steak, but brown and dry where it had not. It was incredibly tough and I had to spit some out after chewing it until my jaw ached.  It came with potatoes that were oily and claggy, yuck. We sent it back and moved on to pudding. The pudding was meringue and fruit with a coulis which was fine. They did apologise for the poor steak. As we dined I looked at other diners and I noticed a lot of plates going back with a lot of food still on them. 

The breakfast was ok but limited choices. This seems to be common practice here in the Pyrenees.  Food at breakfast was ok, but a lot of bread and not much fruit or cereal choice.  They lay out croissants and bread rolls on the tables before you come down, this is ok except for the large number of flies in the dining room that kept landing on all of the uncovered food. Neither my wife or I suffered any ill effects from this, but it don’t half put you off eating it!

Check out was quick and we were pleased to note that they had given us one of our meals for free to apologise for the poor main course. 

All in all, this hotel was a let down. Attention to detail is lacking in the restaurant and housekeeping. I do hope the owners read this review and take action to address the obvious issues they have, this could make this hotel a really nice place to stay, as it is, my advice is to stay somewhere else.



Not a 3 star hotel 

First, if you are considering visiting the Pyrenees then quit hesitating and do it.  We are finishing up a month long trip through Spain, Portugal and the French Pyrenees.  By far this was the best part of our trip.  We only spent two nights here and would at a minimum stay 4-5 next trip.  The hotel is family owned and operated and has been since the 17th Century I think.  The husband and wife team are there at all times.  The gentleman taking care of everyone in the restaurant is on top of everything and the food is world class.  The location is perfect for exploring the many great hikes of the Gavarnie valley.  May is very quiet.  We had all of the beautiful drives and hikes mostly to ourselves.  Skip the more touristy spots and come here!
