Excellent gastronomique restaurant with subtle combinations and wines in accord with the meals. Hotel with comfortable rooms. It was our second visit and we, as a three generations family, were as pleased as last year with the experience. Dogs welcome

We've been visiting this hotel for many years, mainly to see the Crane migration in the spring and autumn, which can be really spectacular if you time it right. When we first visited, the rooms were quite simple but the restaurant was good. Then the hotel changed hands and everything went sadly downhill - in particular, there was no restaurant at all. But two or three years ago the hotel changed hands again, and is now far better than it ever was. The restaurant is excellent, the rooms have been completely refurbished - especially those on the second floor - and the welcome is warm and friendly.  Nice places to stay (and eat) in this area are very few and far between, so this is a particularly highly recommended stop-over.  

Better than ever.

First time in Lac du der and was recommended by a local friend to try this hotel and restaurant. All I can say is I 100% agree!! Hotel restaurant are very good and the service is brilliant too. Beautiful presented and excellently run so if ever you are passing or visiting make sure you make the most of this little gem. 👍 bravo 👏

A gem by the lake… a must visit!!

Small comfortable hotel in a little village - what is there not to love? We stayed here for a night due to the hotel's close proximity to an observatory for the birds. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the beds comfortable.

What is notable was the catering service. The restaurant was impeccably run and the food delicious!

We had an excellent experience last friday (21 august 2020). The food was far above our expectations (!) & the waiters were very professional and friendly. We were with a group of 10 (adults and children) and everyone agrees with this assessment. 

Highly recommended

We've stayed here many times in order to visit the Lac du Der, but when we arrived this time we were perturbed to find that the hotel restaurant had closed. This does matter, as this is by no means a gastronomic hot-spot, to put it mildly. However, there's a good restaurant nearby (the Grange des Abeilles) and another in the next village (Arrigny), which is open for lunch, but open for dinner only on Friday and Saturday (booking advised). But really that's it, unless you really want to go to the pretty anonymous (and certainly anomalous) Casino nearby. (The pizza place opposite the Cheval Blanc closed some time ago). but, all that being said, our room (which was actually a suite) was perfectly OK for the price, the wi-fi worked very well, there was plenty of hot water, the welcome was friendly, the staff helpful and the breakfast (in what used to be the dining room) was much better than on our previous visits. We will certainly return, but next time we'll be better prepared on the dining front.

Very well situated for visiting the Lac du Der, but now without a restaurant

Were at the restaurant end June during an evening in the very warm (hot) period. Personnel was very friendly and dinner was excellent at very reasonable price.  Giffaumont is very touristic and well know for bird watching and water sports . restauant is located in the center of a rural community, but very quiet out of tourist traffic;Certainly a place to go back.

We stayed here for a sailing regatta and were very comfortable. The bed was comfy and the bathroom modern and well equipped. Breakfast was good and plentiful. The free wifi worked well. The restaurant was very good unfortunately it was closed in the evening for 2 nights of our stay (Sunday and Monday). Staff were very friendly. I would stay here again.

Pleasant hotel with good restaurant

We thought that the hotels, food and wine in this part of the world would have been excellent but were sorely disappointed. 
Firstly, the hotel needs a thorough clean-up (wallpaper peeling off in dining room, dirty carpets), the staff need to learn to smile (a small, arrogant waiter “commands” his guests to go to the diningroom “now!”), the menu needs to be revised (no fresh vegetables, salad, fruit- we were served a dry, white fish on a sweet red wine sauce with a small portion of rice-ugh!). And, as others have already commented, the prices are like in Paris e.g. 1 glass of Chablais (12cl) €6.50, a bottle of local champagne €50 (we did not order any!). Beer, water, sirup were all equally highly priced so the house tap water (although warm) was enjoyed at very meal. The breakfast was adequate and the French bread and croissants were eaten by all!

It appears to be the only hotel open in this area so late in the year but if you do plan to stay in the region as a small group or family, try one of the “gites” (Chambres d’hotes), and do your own catering and eat at the Grange aux abeilles, just round the corner from this hotel.

Sad hotel desperately needing a facelift

We slept in this hotel 1-8-2014.

Only a telephone number and my name was enough for a reservation.
We ordered a beer and a glass of housewine: 9 euros! Amsterdam prices in such a small village?!
In a restaurant just around the corner you have a whole nice bottle for 12,50.

We slept horrible in the little old bed. Our backs were broken the next morning.

Take my advice and reserve a nice Gite.

I cannot judge about the food, and I have to say the rooms were clean.

Think before you act.
