We went here on 26th, after Christmas.
Very nice welcome from the staff. 
We had dinner at the restaurant. Nice food, good meat. 
Very quiet atmophere, we were only 3 couples on the hotel/restaurant. 
Big old sofa and fire in chemine. 
And you may see doe in the forest  while you are having breakfast! 


Perfect ! 

Well presented ex hunting lodge in the heart of Normandy, very close to the famous Mont Ormel.  Large rooms with huge comfortable beds and great showers.
VERY quiet and ideal for country pursuits - especially equestrian.

Could not sample restaurant as closed on Mondays.

Quiet atmospheric hotel in Normandy

Were there on our passage to South West France. Website hotel still showed restaurant ... but it wasn't there anymore. Due to lack of tourists and/or personnel...
Location perfect in a big park (as big as a large wood), nice swimming pool etc. but everything a bit wearn down. Rooms fine, breakfast fine. But it lacks enthousiams of the staff (only two people I saw)....
It is a pitty because it certainly has potential !

Good, but needs upgrade

We booked in February this year to stay here on the last night of a touring holiday in France in July.

 We chose the hotel because of its proximity to Caen and because it was a 4 star - we wanted somewhere nice as it was our last night. We decided to enhance our experience by having a superior room and we also booked a table for dinner in the restaurant so we could enjoy a nice meal before our long journey home the next day.

On arrival the property looked very nice from the outside with lovely grounds. 

We went to reception and were greeted by a lovely friendly lady who spoke very good english . We checked in and she took us to our room (number 6) on the first floor overlooking the front of the hotel which is a very nice view. 

If i am honest we expected a bit more of the room as it was a meant to be a superior room in a 4 star hotel . It was a bit corporate and could do with a bit of TLC in places - lovely view and lovely bathroom though and to be honest as it was for 1 night , we decided to go with it. But when we looked at the tarriff on the door we realised we werent in the room we had asked for, we had been put in a standard room. 

We queried our room at reception and i have to say the lady couldnt have been more apologetic . She confered with a colleague and as the hotel was full, they offered to charge us the off season rate (120 euros instead of 150) , free breakfast (around 20 euros a head) and a half bittle of champage with our meal (which turned out to be 

35 euros ) . This was therefore dealt with brilliantly.  

When dinner time came ( we had booked a table for 2 , at 8pm with our booking back in February ) , we went down to the restaurant. The restaurant has two parts , one in a sort of large conservatory with lovely views and white tablecloths etc , and a more brasserie part with paper place mats etc. Needless to say we were a bit surprised , considering when we booked , to be put in the brasserie part which was very different to where we wanted to be to experience what we believed would be a great culinary experience.  We queried with the person in charge to be told rather curty it was first come first served . 

Anyway the meal was very good , all be it not where we wanted it to be, and the lady at reception was good to her word and personally bought the champagne to us in a nice ice bucket. 

We had a decent nights sleep and were on our way the next day. 

So overall , could have been so much better - but the staff were very pleasant and the place is lovely and quiet. But we think 4 star is perhaps a bit generous.

I reserved several rooms for World Championship team members months ahead of our trip and the entire reservation was wrong/cancelled upon arrival. Other than a small change weeks before, I confirmed our reservation 6 months prior, 3 months prior, 1 month prior, and 1 week prior. My reservation was from "(date) - (date)" but apparently the hotel took that as checking in for JUST that start date & JUST that end date (not staying between - !!!). My email even said that my team was coming to compete in the Championship at Haras du Pin nearby - an event that was well publicized in the area. It should have been understood that we were staying the whole week.
On arrival, the hotel said those rooms were NOT available the whole week & could only offer me 1 room with those dates. This was incredibly stressful as we were going to be competing & working very long days (taking care of horses on the venue..not wanting to be far from them). The worst part is that the hotel staff was NOT SORRY about their HUGE MISTAKE. He was insistent that I was wrong - showing me my own emails where it clearly said "(date) - (date)". We were left on our own to figure this out. NO other hotels had a single room, so I ended up searching the countryside for as many Airbnb's as I could find. I pieced it together after several hours. The hotel still expected us to use the 1 day of rooms & was quite angry with us when I told them I found other rooms (since they had messed up the reservation).  They were eventually able to give me a second room...which we decided to use for another person who was coming Thursday instead (and I emailed this change to the hotel). But then, when that person arrived the next day they were told THAT room was also cancelled!!! At 10 pm, we had to find a couch for that person to sleep on. But somehow that same room was available again the next morning; the hotel's response was "I have received your email [with the change]...and having yet another no show I cancelled the room on Thursday morning".  So he received my email with the change from Wednesday to Thursday check-in & decided to cancel Thursday morning anyway...without telling me. Basically, the message was that since we didn't use the partial-reservation that they had messed up, we were being punished.
NEVER NEVER NEVER trust this hotel on what they say. Since they don't accept payment ahead, they can just cancel your room with no consequence. I could NOT believe the incredibly rude behavior, especially after the full mistake on their part. If he had been sorry about the mistake, or tried to call other hotels for us, or done ANYTHING to work with us, I wouldn't be so angry. This was just unreal. BEWARE!

Beware of reservation cancellations & rude service!

While the hotel has nice location we were taken aback by the "warm" reception of the staff in the first evening. First of all, we came to buy a drink in the bar 10 minutes before it was closing and we were asking where we could sit with our drink after (my wife didn't drink because she was on late months of pregnancy). The lady replied in the very rude and aggressive tone that she is closing in 10 minutes and we cannot stay in the bar. Maybe she misunderstood us but I thought 4star hotel staff is supposed to be trained to be polite. 

20 minutes later we came to sit in the hotel lobby near reception with a drink that we bought in the hotel bar before and the same lady was closing reception and getting ready to leave (Hotel doesn't have 24 reception service). She asked us to leave the area because she "cannot leave us without surveillance because of directions' order". It was the only time in my life where I've had humiliating experience in a hotel because staff didn't trust customers to stay in the lobby. Especially considering the fact that upon arrival we were given the access code to this lobby area to enter it any time of day or night! Even lowest grade hotels I've seen didn't allow such attitude.

It is really a shame that behaviour of one employee can completely ruin a customer's mood for vacation that has just started. However nice and atmospheric the location  of this hotel is, it is completely destroyed by such attitude and ruins your holiday experience. Beware!
