I can't say enough about how well Jacqueline made us feel at home. The rooms were clean comfortable and spacious. Our bathrooms were bigger than a lot of the places I have stayed in Europe. The breakfast breads and pastries were fresh and delicious. 

Amazing experience  

What a wonderful host! Jacqueline, the owner, was very kind and helped us with our tourist activities. Her house is a fantastic old country home from another era. She has kept it beautifully with a delightful lounge area and rooms that are all individually furnished. 

Our room was large with a comfortable queen sized bed and two large windows facing the extensive private gardens. The ensuite was large and nicely fitted out.

Breakfast was served in a beautiful dining room and was plentiful.

This is a lovely property to base yourself in this area. It is close to Angers and all the chateaux yet quiet and individualistic.

Old worlde charm full of character

La Croix d'Etain in Grez-Neuville, France is a wonderful B&B, far off the beaten path, in the beautiful Loire Valley. It has been several years since we stayed there, but our wonderful memories linger. Beginning a month long holiday in Europe we wanted a restful few days before the sightseeing began. 

Our hosts at La Criox d'Etain were Auguste and Jacqueline. (So sad to hear from another reviewer that Augustes’ health has declined) They greeted us warmly and showed us to our beautiful, spacious rooms. Though an old manor house the bathrooms, etc. are modern in every way. With windows left open the fresh country air rejuvenated our spirits. Fresh breakfast each morning was amazing and included: croissants, French bread, homemade preserves, honey, fresh fruits, cheeses and a variety of beverages.

The town of Grez-Neuville is picture postcard perfect! Picturesque and serene with the Mayenne River running through it. We spent our mornings exploring and our afternoons relaxing on the beautiful grounds of the B&B.

On our last night at our hosts prepared a lavish dinner which our party of seven ate on the back terrace. True gourmet delight!!

Wonderful Memories of Amazing B&B!!

This is an old property where charm lies in the faded grandeur. The bathroom was modern, bed linen crisp and everything spotlessly clean. An excellent breakfast and a very charming hostess. Idyllic waterside village location with safe gated parking. We loved it

This was a lovely place, it's very traditional, old fashioned even with sheets and blankets not the usual duvets but I had one of the best nights sleep I've had in ages. Perhaps it was the restful atmosphere. Our room had dual views out over the pretty rose filled garden and the river. It also had easy chairs, a huge bathroom and not just a kettle but a teapot and china cups.
This is now B&B only* but there is a creperie (where we ate) right next door, alternatively Madame was happy to direct us to a restaurant, but we'd had a long journey so didn't want to get back in the car.
Next morning after walking Dogstarke we enjoyed a gorgeous breakfast. Bread, brioche, croissants, peaches, apricots and yoghurt were just some of the things on the large communal table which we shared with a group of young Parisians down for a wedding.
After breakfast Dogstarke enjoyed a hurtle around the garden before we set off once again. 
A lovely place, probably best enjoyed if you can speak some French. 
*Just one sad note Monsieur who is mentioned warmly in other reviews (and I think cooked dinner) is now unwell and doesn't take part in the running of the house.

Beautiful B&B

Beautiful home and grounds and the host and hostess (Auguste and Jacqueline) were very gracious.  The room with private bath was beautiful and very clean.  They provided coffee/tea supplies which is very nice for a B&B.  Free WiFi also available.

We were traveling throughout France, and unfortunately only had the opportunity to stay one evening in this quite, restful village.  Would highly recommend this to anyone traveling through the Western Loire Valley.
