Guillestre is in a fantastic location for visiting some great high alpine passes, so is of interest to tourists who enjoy driving and cycling. I  don’t think it’s a ski resort, so as such, the hotel options are limited.

Les Barnieres is a perfect stop for a touring holiday as it’s just outside town, so is quiet and has plentiful parking next to the hotel. There’s even a hose by the parking area, for a quick wash down of your vehicle. It’s probably a 5 -10 minute walk downhill into town.

Rooms are comfortable, though a little dated, but that is reflected in the bargain price. Balconies have a great view. It was hot when we were there, so we slept with the balcony doors open and listened to what I think was a nightingale on both nights.

Food was very good, though the menu combinations offered are a little complicated.

The most wonderful thing about Les Barnieres though, is the pool area. It’s just across the (very quiet) road from the hotel, and is really quite private. Our group of 12 had it mostly to ourselves. There are plenty of loungers, and even a large covered area if you want shade, and maybe a game of table tennis. The pool is of a good size and is beautifully clean.

Annick, the owner, and her staff were absolutely charming.

Guillestre is a lovely little town, with some buzzing bars and restaurants.
This is a perfectly okay place to stay, about 10 minutes walk from town, but is a bit odd. The outside of the hotel is great: it looks like a ski chalet and has balconies. The rooms are clean and quite spacious but the décor is grannyfied to say the least. Very old-fashioned furniture and furnishings. 
The bathroom we had was apricot coloured and there was no shower but it was functional and well maintained.
As long as you don't mind old-fashioned, it's fine.

The place that time forgot

The Hotel is located in the outside of Guillestre, but the downtown is 2 minutes away walking. The hotel needs a good update (rooms, bathrooms and restaurant) but everything is clean and the staff is friendly.

Outdated hotel, good service

We were a family of four, cycling in the area. The hotel is very clean and the room was adequate. We only stayed one night. They seemed to cater mostly for cyclists and motor cyclists. As the previous reviewer mentioned, there is storage for both at the hotel. The breakfast was really substantial, with an abundance of fruit, cereals, yoghurt, jams, breads and coffee/tea available. It was one of the few inns where eggs were offered, which was appreciated. The staff were really friendly and very efficient. Wifi is still only available in the public areas, but there is a substantial lounge area should one need privacy to read emails, etc. Overall, a very good experience.

Lovely hotel on the edge of town

The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean (although none of us had a shower, but rather a Roman bath set in a tub), and the free breakfast was great.  Wifi is hard to get outside of the lobby, but in the lounge/lobby it was excellent.  The hotel is excellently maintained, which is likely why the decor hasn't been changed in what I would guess was 40 years.  It is close to many excellent climbing areas (we stayed for a competition in L'Argentiere), and it is a short walk to some great restaurants.  If you're in to luxury, this isn't for you.  If you want super clean accommodation with friendly helpful staff, this works.
