Good pitches and clean toilets/showers, the site is a great base for a weeks white water boating and, I hear, for cycling, walking and climbing.  Guillestre is an enchanting village, as are those surrounding it.  The site deserves a rating of 3, or 4 at a stretch, but the receptionist was so unfriendly/uninterested we've decided to give it 2.

Perfect Location

Decent enough campsite, we arrived on the 21/8 and there was almost an empty campsite! We were told to go where we wanted!! Different from Grimaud where we came from!! 
Nice and quiet site, along side the river, and about a 10 minute walk into the village. The road is very quiet, go out of the campsite bridge and turn left. We were passed by about 2 cars! You do go past an abattoir so be warned! Although there is no sign outside what it is, it’s only the signage on the street! Don’t be put off walking that way!
The village itself isn’t big, and everything shuts for 3 hours at lunch! Lots of restaurants but not much else! It is really pretty though! The tourist information is very helpful too!
A good stopover campsite for us!

Basic but adequate

Great pitch, good size, shade and sun. Fab reception staff & general facilities for a 3 star camp site. Would recommend as great value and just a really nice site well maintained. Great to get breakfast and good electrics.

Really great one night stay

Camping La Rochette is a large municipal site situated very near to the charming town of Guillestre. It is well signposted as one approaches the town. The staff were very welcoming. Our pitch was just about big enough to accommodate our 7.3m length caravan and, typical of many continental sites, we were close to our neighbours - though to be fair this did not cause us any problems. The facilities were good and were kept very clean throughout our two week stay. There is a well stocked on-site shop though it is only about a ten minute drive to a local supermarket quite close to the site. Lots of activities are offered throughout the week. The Wi-Fi which we purchased was very good though we found it to be on the expensive side.

The swimming pool the site shows on its website is not part of the site. It is a municipal pool for which the entry fee is 3 euros per person.

There is a lot of good walking to be found in the area. The local Tourist Information Office sells a book of local walks written in English. However, the walks are not well described and it is very easy to either not find the start of a walk or to get lost once started. What can be said is that it does suggest areas to visit if you're not familiar with the area.

If you've not been to this part of France before it's well worth a visit. We would recommend the site without hesitation.

Excellent well managed site in beautiful surroundings

We visited out of season where it was peaceful and the emplacements were large and shady which was lovely as the weather was hot. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they all seemed to speak a reasonable amount of English which at times was useful. The toilets and showers are clean and there is always hot water. It is possible to walk into town although it is all uphill but we found it worth the walk on market day. The town centre is old and interesting with some beautiful old buildings. The climb to Izoard begins from the edge of the village and there are a number of other cols close by. excellent canoeing on The Durance and Briancon is less than half an hour away. This area is one of our favourites in France and I will definitely stay at this site again when we return . I will also recommend it to friends
