Due to a plumbing disaster we were unable to stay at Merle Blanc as booked, however we were offered a wonderful alternative by the delightfully charming Alexandre. We spent one night in his uniquely magical guest room which included a fantastic breakfast in the alternative universe of Alexandre's imagination. We were then relocated to a beautiful apartment overlooking an ancient courtyard. Alexandre was attentive throughout and made marvellous recommendations of where, and where not, to go. This stay was a world apart from the usual sterile accommodation and hosting that you often experience. In short, If you're going to Montpellier, or indeed, anywhere thereabouts, look no further!

A world apart

Nice clean accommodation. Host was very pleasant and helpful . Apartment is  in a lively central spot. It's hard to find by car and there  is no free parking as led to believe . We stayed 2 nights with 3 kids which was long enough to explore Montpellier. It was very hot when we visited and struggled to sleep with no air con . 

Family summer visit 

We stayed in one of these apartments with a mezzanine level.  Our 3 children loved staying in the upper level and the apartment was great for all 5 of us.  It had great character and was centrally located for all that the 'old' centre of Montpellier had to offer.  We were able to both eat out and prepare meals from the supermarket and superb specialty shops close nearby.  Unfortunately we did not get to meet Alex who was away, but this meant we got to meet both the florists and bar owner next door who were very welcoming.  Highly recommend.

Great experience in Montpellier

This is a wonderful B&B in central Montpellier. Alex is a charming, friendly and helpful host. He recommended and booked dinner for us, gave us tips on the best places to visit, and was ready with a typical, enjoyable French breakfast for us in the morning.

He is a great collector of toys, antiques, and objets d'art. The overall effect is a bricolage of interesting, humorous and engaging decorations in a good sized bedroom, with a private bathroom tucked away up a small flight of stairs.

It's a unique space, like stepping into another world, and I would go back for another stay in a heartbeat.

Narnia

I stayed in one of Alexandre's apartments for a week at the end of March whilst following a french course at a nearby language school. 

The apartment is situated on the middle floor of an old building and has a cosy feel with a snug bedroom and some period details (exposed brickwork, beams). It was perfect for me as it is right in the centre of town (everything in central Montpellier - Porte Peyrou, Place de la Comedie etc is within about 5-7 minutes walk) and you can step out of the apartment and immediately start wandering around the centre of this interesting city. There are good local markets and shops practically on the doorstep as well as all the restaurants in the 'centre ville'. There is also a handy Carrefour supermarket about 2 minutes walk away.

Despite being in the centre of town the apartment is quiet and calm - the passage at the back of which the building is located is well protected from the hubbub of the City. I will be returning in late Summer or early Autumn (if the apartment hasn't been booked up!) and probably again early in 2015 as I continue to follow my language course. 

Alexandre is also a very sympathetic host and will either go completely out of his way to give you recommendations and help you with your stay (if you prefer that) or just be available at a discrete distance, a phone call away, in case of any problems (if that suits you better).

Highly recommended for a single or couples planning to stay in the centre of Montpellier.
