My wife & I together with two friends stayed at the Hotel Modern on Thursday 26th April 2018.  We have nothing but praise for the hotel and the staff, and can thoroughly recommend both the location and hotel.

Ile Tudy is a beautiful and traditional seaside town complete with quaint houses, sailing boats and easily accessible beaches.  It is easy to see why it is so popular because even on a cool April afternoon/evening the Place de la Cale was busy with visitors enjoying the various cafes, bars & restaurants.

We arrived mid-afternoon and were impressed that a level of trust long since lost by most of the world is still exhibited by the hotel.  On entering the reception area we found a basket containing two room keys and a note bearing my name.  The telephone on the desk is marked to "contact reception press this button"; on doing so I was connected to the Patron who warmly welcomed us, apologised for not being present, ensured that we had found our room keys and wishes us a pleasant stay.  We had not paid any deposit and he was quite happy for us to pay at breakfast the following morning.

Our room (No.8) was a front-corner room with views of the Place de la Cale and the estuary.  Our friends were allocated room No. 6 with limited views of the estuary.
The rooms (and hotel) were clean and well decorated.  It is not a 'high-end' venue but the bedding, pillows, bath towels were all of good quality.

Rooms do not have tea/coffee making facilities but other than that there was no 'down-side' to our stay.  It should be noted that due to the size of Ile Tudy the hotel does not have any parking facilities.  You can bring your car to the entrance to drop-off/pick-up luggage, and thereafter you have to park your car in the nearest available parking bay.  For us this was about 200mtrs away and not a problem; however, for others (especially the elderly and infirm) this may be a problem.  It should be remembered that this issue is not of the hotel's making or in it's control and should not be seen as a reason to complain.

Breakfast the following morning was very good; a plentiful supply of hot coffee; pastries, cheese, meats, bread, and cereals ensured that we did not leave with empty stomachs. 

I was more than happy to pay my bill and was extremely sad that we had to leave after only one night.  We will definitely return to Ile Tudy and stay at the Hotel Modern.

Beautiful location - lovely 'relaxed' hotel

Stayed for last night of Brittany holidays and Ile Tudy is a great location for enjoying your last meal etc in France. 
The hotel has recently split from the adjoining restaurant (which incidentally gave us an excellent dinner)
In the hotel we couldn't get one of the rooms with the great harbour views, so looked out to a back wall and flat roof which was a shame. The room was clean but extremely hot. They old school French hotel style of tightly made up bed with numerous blankets was completely unnecessary, at least in summer. 
Breakfast was perhaps the biggest disappointment, with undrinkable instant coffee and a mouldy yoghurt. The latter was perhaps bad luck and the owner was very embarrassed, but the coffee was inexcusable. As soon as we'd packed the car I headed straight to the outdoor bar tables of the restaurant next door for a decent cafe au lait! 
All in all its a beautiful location but the hotel needs to up its game. I wonder if the fact that there's no other hotel competition in the village is a factor? 


Great location but needs an update 

... and the Hôtel Modern’s restaurant Le Malamok, is a favourite with the locals roundabout in Ile Tudy, Combrit, and Pont-l’Abbé. Simple and unpretentious it is also a favourite with travellers, who appreciate Breton sea food specialities such as langoustines, crab, plateaux de fruits de mer and moules frites.

Having been there recently but also many times over the last two decades with family and friends, we’ve appreciated their presentation of traditional, uncomplicated Breton dishes. And you can still have a decent pêche melba, dame blanche or other desserts, unspoilt by rarified modernist reinterpretation.

There is a good, friendly atmosphere, a chance to become immersed in Franco-Breton culture and, the ever-changing view over the estuary of the Pont-l’Abbé river is a delight.

Local Favourite

Stayed last summer for a couple of days. magnificient view from the bathroom. The hotel is very basic but good bed and super clean. and all you need is that view really. Nice moules-frites at the restaurant downstaires, good croissants in the morning. What more would you want
