Lovely situation, very nice breakfast. Bed in Le Bateau extremely uncomfortable and narrow. But….. the iwners are crooks! They took twice the money for one night from my credit card! So, don’t go there…

Crooks

We arrive at 4pm, by bikes, sweating, and learned that it would open only at 5:30. How possible.
But the lady opened the gate after a phone call. The reception was very rude, the suite of 50 m2 was around 35 m2. I reserved for 2 individual beds, my son and myself. The manager just told me, he can sleep on the sofa, but I won’t bring sheets. How is it possible to be like that with a client who paid 87 euros for a night!!!
And last but no least, we informed her that we had to leave early next day. She promised a breakfast in the refrigerator. At 7am, nothing was prepared, only the coffee machine was ready.
It is just scandalous! And the people has to know!

Be care! Not a very friendly place to stay

We had reservation for 2 double bedrooms with lounge. 35 sq. m. for 3 nights in September 2018. The reservation was done 6 months in advance. We came to the property on time, to find that the owner kept for us only one room that we reserved, and instead of the second, she suggested a peculiar wooden boat with small round windows, standing in the garden on a wooden deck. The wooden structure has limited space so that you had to crawl in to the bed, because the wooden wall stood attached to the bed on both sides. This way or the other, this was not what we reserved, not even close to it. We tried to persuade the owner to honor the reservation. She just left us outside and entered her house. We had to find new place to stay for those three nights, and of course - to pay for this stay in the new hotel. And the owner? she did not send an apology. Instead, she charged our credit card for full 2 nights for 2 rooms, as if  it was our fault that she did not fulfill the reservation, and not her breaking the agreement to honor the reservation. It is very disappointing for us. not just because of the double payment, but the fact that we were looking forward to stay in this area, and had to look in the evening for another hotel, after reserving the rooms so long in advance. It is also a pity because we had wonderful vacation in Normandy and this affair took much off the pleasure. No apology. just double charge....

Great disappointment: An unfulfilled promise.

I love trip advisor reviews that are unemotional and factual but until now I never really appreciated the depth of some other reviewers feelings. Armed with this newly found experience, I could go hell for leather here, but I will refrain and offer you little more than, this place looks cute as a forest house in a Hans Christian Anderson story but sadly some other of his characters lurk inside.

We booked this B&B (its not a hotel) for a few reasons, location, setting, grounds and its appearance. We were using it on our final leg of our drive from Bergerac before heading back to the UK the following day. 

In the interest of fairness, I will admit to my shortcomings here. I personally did not appreciate the time for the drive and could have built in more time for bad traffic jams and delays, but in honesty, the drive from the UK to Bergerac was smooth and uninterrupted. Also, we had to make two stops for our children. One who has special needs (6) and the other who needs to use a toilet on a long drive (8) . Hindsight is a great thing but we live and learn and I have learnt.  (ETA was 7pm when we left Bergerac) 

However, I have exchanged six emails with the hotel, both in English and French and their responses and charging us £179 for 'not showing up' is my main gripe. Their unprofessionalism is what it is.

During the journey we received a call from the hotel, in French, but of course, however, my best French only made out 60% of the conversation, I was however able to tell them of our ETA. There was some mumbling, some more words and then they hung up. 

I called 4 times after that over the course of an hour. to both land line and mobile, leaving messages at  all times. None were answered or calls returned and by now I was getting that sinking feeling. gut instinct. However, its a hotel, we are going to be fine. 

After two major road incidences we experienced major delays and once again made calls to the contact numbers we had for our hotel advising we were running later than our earlier ETA

in the end we arrived at 9.45pm, having taken the last ferry (unaware at the time) across the river. We got to the 'hotel (B&B) to find the driveway gates locked. we then spent 20 minutes trying to contact the hotel to allow us in. they declined to, because we were LATE.

Now as an adult I don't mind this situation, however, with two children to take care of it was less than fun.

I finally managed to get a hotel room, 35 miles away (south)  that accepted us, our children and a wheelchair. 

We finally got to bed around midnight. Our new hotel turned out to be wonderful and Gerard and Geraldine were truly exceptional.

As rubbish as the hotel (B&B) turned out to be we also learnt that our children are even more wonderful than we realised and cerebral palsy took a backseat for our brave little man.

So in brief, this place could and should have been great, but I cannot offer anything good to say. Also I must say Booking.com who I use both for work and personal travel, were less than perfect in this and really have not supported me as a customer of theirs.

I don't like writing negative comments, it reminds me of the experience but for anyone looking at this hotel, if you have wheelchair needs, Don't book. If you are traveling there on a night when they are playing Bridge with their friends (Tuesday) then don't. Its a B&B and NOT a hotel

Perhaps Au Fail de l'eau would be apt

Madame arrived about half an hour late without saying sorry, the room was small, the staircase narrow and steep, the bed was old and tired, however the breakfast was excellent and the setting was beautiful.

It was not what we expected

The setting is lovely, gardens next to the river. We had a room in the main house and our friends were put in the boat. The owner was mowing the lawn when we arrived, carried on doing this while we stood there waiting, even though the gates are not opened until 530pm, so they must be aware of when the guests will arrive and should time the lawnmowing accordingly. Finally the lady stopped, basically rushed us to the rooms, did not explain anything, and went back to mowing the lawn. We did not have an issue with our room, but our friends said the boat was most uncomfortable, with the bed being very short. Breakfast was adequate, but once again you got the impression that you were in the way. There was no wifi. While the setting was very quiet and peaceful, this place is a little out of the way, and we would not make the effort to go back.

Unfriendly owners

We stayed for 2 nights in the Suite and everything was great. The bedroom and living room were very clean, nicely decorated and spacious. Breakfast included produce from the garden - honey, eggs, cake... There was both quality and quantity.The hostess was pleasant, readily available to answer questions and share some anecdotes. We would have loved to stay longer.
