Made a booking at the hotel on Booking.com. As I called to check whether a later check-in was possible (on the same day, a few hours before arrival) was informed that no rooms were available and that my reservation was changed to a different hotel - and that I must have received an e-mail in this respect, which was not the case. I would have expected to receive a phone call, especially as we were a family with two small children.

We booked last minute due to the hotel's proximity to the Hospital in Annecy where I needed to visit a patient.  I also needed to keep my kids fed and entertained outside of visiting hours.  I would highly recommend La Chrissandiere which is clean and quiet, not far from main motorway and boasts a restaurant that punches above its weight at its sister site - Les Rochers.  The kids tucked into French fare with gusto and not a peep was uttered about chips or nuggets.  Continental breakfast was what you'd expect with good coffee, fresh baked goods, yoghurts and some fresh fruit.  I think there was a pizza bar nearby and a supermarket but we were literally flying through on our visit so didn't use these. The lovely garden and swimming pool were a big bonus.  
You need to look past the slightly dated decor which has a retro appeal to those of us who travelled in France as kids!!

Charming layover near Annecy

The Hotel looked quite inviting when we arrived. When we ask for a room and prices they really had a problem to tell us the exact price. later we got down to the bar to have a drink. around 6 ish. we had a drink and thought time to have dinner. NO, dinner starts from 8.30 pm to 9pm. So we had to go around the place and find a very good Pizza Place. perfect. We got back after dinner to have a drink at the hotel and you know what, they close the bar at 7.45 pm. all we could do is go to bed and get out in the morning to get away from the place

La Chrissandiere is the annexe to the Les Rochers Hotel in La Balme.  It is located about 250 metres from the main hotel and restaurant.  The only food served in the Annexe is breakfast, which was very good with plenty of choice.   The rooms are well furnished and clean.   The public areas are well-maintained.  The building has the atmosphere of a country cottage in very well laid out gardens.  There is an outdoor pool, which is clean although some leaves inevitably blow in from the surrounding trees.

If you want to eat locally the restaurant at the Hotel Les Roches is excellent.  The dining room is spacious, spotlessly clean and all the tables are beautifully laid.   The service is friendly and efficient.

We stayed for two nights in July and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  One point to note is that the adress given for La Chissandiere is the actual address of the Les Rochers Hotel in the centre of La Balme: you check-in there and then drive the short distance to La Chrissandiere.
