This place just impressed us from the moment we turned into the driveway. Set in beautiful grounds, the main house, which sleeps 10 in 4 bedrooms, is exactly what I pictured a rustic Normandie house to look like, and the cottage behind the house which sleeps 3 looks like a perfect little doll’s house. I’d seen the photos before we went, but they really didn’t do the place justice. We were a party of 10 adults and each had a comfortable bedroom (we had use of the cottage as well as the house), plus a large dining hall, well equipped kitchen with utility, and huge lounge with wood burner which was plenty big enough for us all to spread out. It’s no longer a B&B, it is self-catered, which is exactly what we wanted, perfect for a family or group of friends. It was beautifully clean and well maintained, the decor is lovely and totally in keeping with the style and age of the house. We were totally smitten and will definitely be coming back.

Fantastic family get-together

Overnight stay here with Paul and Jan.  Beautiful building and our room was delightful.  The whole house looked well presented and just the style that I like and totally in keeping with what I expect of a french home.  We didn’t have an en-suite but that didn’t matter as we had a personal bathroom and lovely white robes (and one that actually fitted my husband who is quite tall and broad), just along the corridor.
We arrived about 6.30pm and had taken up the offer of a meal (€25 each).  It was a lovely three course meal with wine and coffee, just what was needed after several hours driving.  Breakfast was equally delightful.
We were going off early the next day so didn’t have time to sit and enjoy the gardens but it would have been lovely to have relaxed there with a book and a glass of wine.
Paul and Jen were very attentive and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us.  
It is a little bit off of the beaten track but well worth it.  
I would highly recommend staying here and hope to stay again if we are passing that way again.  Thank you.

First class experience

Are we becoming regulars? Some people may say that we're not adventurous as we walk the trodden path by booking this B&B again. Well, let that be the case. When you have found something that is good and you're in the area again for a few days - almost a week this time - then you play it safe and you're efficient by booking what you know. 
It hasn't changed other than that we could now sit outside in some sort of open barn to read, for a coffee or just to relax.
It is still very clean, still quiet, the hosts are still exceptionally friendly, helpful and - we must point this out - flexible. We arrived a bit late on the first day, due to circumstances outside our control, and  even at that late hour we were welcomed with a beer and a glass of wine and had a lovely chat.
The place offers everything we could wish for. Internet is a bit slow but that's out of their control. You're in a very rural area so one should allow for these things. All good stuff and (still) good value for money. 

Back again - that says something

After almost two years we decided to pay the Grimsley family another visit as Maison May is located perfectly for visiting the different Christmas markets in the area. 
We were already jubilant about their chambres d'hôtes in 2016 but they have managed to surpass even that level. What is being offered is not over the top but just right in every possible aspect. After our five night stay we knew that it were the little touches that made our stay so relaxing, the attention to detail that made us feel so warm, cosy and appreciated. All the time we felt completely comfortable and at ease. The owners are always there when you needed them but stayed behind the scenes when you didn't. Their level of attention is just right. A few times, we made use of the option to have dinner there. Lovely food and plentiful. We can only say that Maison May is the best place for those who want the right level of luxury and service. You don't really want to talk money when it is so excellent but one should .... don't worry, it is very, very good value for money.

We came back!

Wonderful place, a mix of French-English style, run by Paul and Jan, a wonderful couple who treat us with exquisite attention. THey are lovely and prepare amazing breakfast. Even if you ask, they can cook dinner for you. The house is renivated by them and they put love in it...A 40-min drive to Mont Saitn Mitchel, and in teh middle of countryside....peaceful area. To go again, without hesitation.

Have you ever dream about having all your family around you, in the same place, sharing the best day of your life? We made it, sorry, our hosts Jan and Paul made it!!!
I will never forget what they did for us. SENSATIONAL / MAGIC / UNFORGETTABLE 
They personalised everything, and wooooow, their kindness... I have no word!
We will always remember!
And don't hesitate to have breakfast, lunch or dinner at Maison May, because it's just OWESOME

The best moment of our life: Wedding in Maison May

Just returned from a lovely short break to Lower Normandy, France where we stayed at Maison May which is a Luxury B & B with Gites in La Chapelle-Urée. I can't recommend it highly enough to anyone who's thinking of visiting that part of France. From the minute we drove up the driveway, it was even nicer than we'd hoped from the photos we'd seen when we did our booking.  It's spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, with all sorts of lovely vintage touches.  What's more  the owners Janet and Paul couldn't have been any more accommodating or made us feel any more welcome. The continental breakfast was one of the nicest we've ever been offered, even in 4 & 5 star hotels. Looking forward to a return visit to see more of what that part of France has to offer.
