On the edge of the pretty little town of Lanouaille, this farmhouse has wonderful views across rolling French countryside.  We had the place to ourselves, apart from at breakfast which was prepared by one or other of the owners.  They are a charming and helpful family, though they speak little English.  Breakfast comprises the typical 'Continental':  yogurt, croissant, fresh baked bread, home-made jams and good coffee.  
Our room was small but very pleasant, although the 'Beam-Me-Up-Scotty' shower in the en-suite had both of us baffled!  
Otherwise, superb value and highly recommended.

Idyllic rural location

We were attending a wedding at Chateau La Durantie and needed somewhere walkable. There was one other choice in the village, which was the main hotel, but we'd heard it was a bit fawlty towers without the comedy.  The choice to stay at the farm was a fine one, as it is approximately 5minutes walk from Lanouaille (pavement and lit almost all the way) and only half an hour from the chateau (on a quiet road).

The place is run by a really friendly French guy and a Dutch helper, so English is not a problem. Having said that, we tried in French for the most part. Breakfast was a nice selection of breads and jams, left out for you at a time of your choosing. There are teas and coffees left out for you the rest of the time, along with local beers and wines.

There are two rooms here, one ensuite and one (which we had) with a private bathroom in the hall. The place is clean and decorated in a classic french style. The shower was modern and powerful but there was a lack of drawers and wardrobes (there were none) in the bedroom.

We stayed here for four nights, whilst the other room changed every night. The main issue with the place was the lack of soundproofing with next door-walking around, taps running, even shaving could be heard easily. Combined with the two cockerels that rose early, I found earplugs a necessity.

Couple of other things-this is a working farm so expect a bit of stuff going on.  There is free wifi, although I didn't use it much. Finally, we couldn't get a taxi one night to a meal in another town-we had a car so it wasn't a big deal, but arrange that sort of thing in advance. There is a living room with French TV that is for exclusive use of the two rooms.

I think for one night this would be a great stopover, and it represents excellent value for money-I think we paid about £200 for the four nights.
