It was by far the worse experience I ever had during an accommodation (and we travel quite a lot).
The house, the garden with the swimming pool and the breakfast are amazing, but the hosts are there to ruin your whole experience from the second you arrive.
From the moment we entered in the house we got harassed by Bernard (he never smiles) who was continuously repeating that ‘this is not a hotel is my house’ and after 5 minutes spent there we almost got kicked out just because we said we are going to a wedding, and of course we are coming back home later than 11PM (which is basically your last call if you want to sleep in the room you paid for). His response after hearing all this: ‘Don’t drink, or I’ll kick you out. We don’t like people who are going to weddings’. I suppose they had before bad experience with other guests, but still…
During the all stay we were basically afraid to even walk just not to disturb him and his wife.
They should make it very clear on their website that they don’t want weddings participants and the latest hour you can come in the house while staying there is 11PM.
Overall the whole experience was horrible and we couldn’t wait to pack and leave.

'Extremly rude hosts'

Horrible hosts. Very rude and made us feeling unwelcomed and unconfortable during the whole stay. We chose to stay two nights there based on all good reviews and excellent rating on booking.com. We were absolutely not expecting to be so unwelcomed. 

Miren was "okay" but Bernard does not say Hello, does not smile, and does not even try to explain you how things work. The only thing he said was that it was his house and it was not an hotel. After five minutes, he even said that my girlfriend (who does not speak French) should stop looking at him in a weird way and smile at him instead. The situation was unreal. We were the guests but we had to make efforts, not him. We have been threatened to get kicked-out several times within the first three minutes even though we did not even unpack. 

To be honest, I was about to leave after five minutes. Then I realized we were here only for two nights and that all B&B and hotels in the region were probably fully-booked at this period of the year. 

Basically, we spent these two days trying not to make noise not to bother them, and trying to follow all the given rules without really enjoying our stay.

We travel quite a lot and we regularly rent rooms in both hotels and B&B and we know how to behave. I just do not think the owners understand and know what it takes to run a B&B.

Definitely NOT recommended

After reading all the excellent reviews, I was even more shocked by how bad we have been treated during this week end. The place is beautiful and breakfast excellent, but difficult to appreciate when you are made so unwelcome from minute 1. 
We were threatened to get “kicked out” when we told Bernard we were in town for a wedding “We hate weddings, don’t drink or I will kick you out!”. Following a surrealist conversation it was made very clear (repeated aggressively about 5 times) “this is not a hotel, you are staying in my house!”. We were also asked if we would come back after 11pm during our stay, and when we said yes it was made very clear that it was really annoying as they needed to leave the outside door unlocked. 
Overall a very unpleasant experience, where the host never smiles at you and makes you feel like you shouldn’t be here, and he is making you a favour by allowing you to stay. 
This place shouldn’t be advertised on a site such as booking.com as the host has clearly anger issues with some guests. 
It should also be made clear on the website that they don’t want weddings or people who want to come back after 11pm.

Terrible experience

From the moment we arrived to our reluctant departure 3 days later everything about our stay was wonderful. Miren and Bernard are great hosts, the property is stylish, luxurious and comfortable. Our room (Horizons lontains), the guest areas and the pool were beautiful and Bernard's breakfasts were delicious.

We will be back!

This was something special!!

This was our first visit to the dordogne and we stayed at Le Grand Cedre for 3 nights. Miren and Bernard are friendly and welcoming hosts and are very helpful and gave us tips about where to visit in the local area. Their home is stunning, decorated beautifully with everything you would need including tea/coffee making facilities and bottled water in each room. The breakfasts are the best we have ever had, such a selection of foods all presented like a Michelin starred restaurant! Bernard prepared orange crepes with salted caramel sauce one morning which were amazing.

We walked into Monpazier on Bastille day, it is approximately a 3k flat walk along the road/grass verges which took us 25/30 minutes. This was fine during daylight hours but after dark I would not recommend as much of the walk is not lit.

We would highly recommend Le Grand Cedre and would definitely like to visit again.
