This comfortable small hotel tucked away in the forests- the host and hostess so welcoming - the little quaint village was charming-  The evening dinner was really good- very few tourists - utterly peaceful

Tucked away in forests with awesome veiws od surrounding mountains-

I found this beautiful place by a general internet search of villages north of the town of Biot on the Cote D'Azur, where we were staying with a friend. We had travelled to Grasse and Gourdon on a visit previously and wished to go a little further into the low Alpes. We are so glad that we did. The Auberge le Charamel is a wonderful restaurant perched at the edge of the neat and clean village of Le Mas, overlooking a cherry orchard, where the wild boar come to snuffle below the trees looking hopefully at the restaurant windows for treats. Isabelle and Regis are such an engaging couple, always happy to provide guests with any help or advice. The rooms are small but spotlessly clean with everything that you would need; TV, en-suite shower and toilet,  and the view from the window at the rear is stunning. There is a short walk of 30 minutes down into the valley following the terraces tracks and there you find the river, and a multitude of butterflies of all colours. The trek back up the track takes a little longer but it is worth the exercise, to work up an appetite for dinner, 3 wonderful courses of haute cuisine, that you would experience in Michelin starred establishments, all using as much local ingredients as possible. The cost of our stay was very reasonable, combining 1/2 board which includes room, wonderful dinner and breakfast.  If possible we will be returning to visit Isabelle and Regis and their young son at the earliest opportunity!

An experience not to be missed!

We ate here last night, and the food was simply amazing.
The restaurant has a stunning view and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful (and speak english). The chef is amazing, and the prices were very reasonable.
Overall a lovely meal. Highly recommended.
It's listed as a hotel here and as we didn't stay, I can't really comment on the rooms, but the restaurant was really very, very good.

Amazing food from a 5* chef

I'm so glad we didn't find any where else to stop by. We were just starting a tour on Provence. 
We left Nice by the morning and after visiting Gourdon, Grasse and Entrevaux we headed to Le Mas. The only place we found available room. It was on the beginning of August/2012 and Provence was very busy and full of tourists.
This is a small Auberge, run by a very nice couple (Regis and Isabelle) and who really know how to enchant their guests. They gave us precious advices about places we should visit on our tour.
Don't miss the chance to enjoy the dinner and the all homemade breakfast. The owner is an international chef de cuisine, and the food is awesome, the presentation of the dishes is amazing.
The rooms are very small (don't expect large rooms in Provence), and their simplicity turn them to be so charming! Forget all you know about hotels, don't go full of expectations, be open to a different experience and enjoy. I'm sure you will enjoy as much as we did.

Hidden Little Gem

We stayed here as a family of 4 - parents and two children (7years and 12 years old) - as a one night excursion in from the busier coast. It was an absolute pleasure to stay here. It has a lovely, calm, family-run atmosphere with very good food, a great view and clean, simple rooms. As a way to end the day after exploring and swimming in the various Clue nearby it was perfect. Even the wild boar came out in the evening to put on a show for the children. The owners used to run a five star resort in the Pacific and they have brought their high standards with them.
