We were in an apartment with 14 people, and we had a very good stay. Ideal location at the foot of the tracks and close to the ski school. Friendly and available staff. Our sauna broke down, it was repaired the next day.

Staying at the top

Fantastic stay at La Residence Le Val Chaviere over Easter.  We were a group of 2 adults and 2 children and stayed in a 6-person apartment, so we had lots of room.  The location is perfect, midway up Castor and Pollux and you can ski straight onto the slope.  Our ski and boot store was right by the front door (Apt 1) so no getting changed in a crowded boot room.  The apartment has one separate toilet, a bathroom with a sink, spa bath and handheld shower attachment, and another bathroom with a sink and walk in shower.   A double bedroom with wardrobe, a twin with wardrobe (twin beds can push together to make a more spacious double) and a small twin without storage (we used one of the beds to store clothes on).  The kitchen has a large fridge with a small freezer compartment, a dishwasher, filter coffee machine, toaster, microwave, electric hob and oven.  Lots of crockery and cutlery and glasses.  Towels and bed linen are provided - take a T towel for the last minute dishes tho.  Washing up liquid, cloth and scourer and a few dishwasher tablets are provided.  There is a wood burner but we didn't use it as the radiators kept us warm enough.  The supermarket is conveniently located just over the road and there is easy access to all the bars and restaurants.  A spotless and recently refurbished apartment, we will definitely book again.

When we arrived we were delighted, the newly refurbished apartment was comfortable and well equipped, I exchanged with several of our guests several nights, the residence is very well located and the people at the reception are very welcoming. We were very quickly disappointed after the first night: from 2 o'clock in the morning, screams, laughter and music deep down in the upstairs apartment, at 2:30 am I went up to see what was going on and discovered a group of fifteen young strangers half alone. We had a few nice and well-equipped conversations with them, the residence seemed very nice to me, they said that the furniture would stop and it would not happen again, they gave me their phone number to contact them in case of a break.

A nice home but not suitable for families

Residence ideally located at the foot of the slopes, magnificent view.... However we skied from north to south for the reservation. We were declassified from a 125m2 apartment with 10 people 5 bedrooms, has an 85m2 apartment with 8 people 5 bedrooms but including a cabin room. We had little recourse since they threatened to withdraw our reservation if we did not accept this. The household was not top either, sheep even under the beds, shower room, evacuation system of this same defective shower. At the price of the week... A little disappointed by all and especially skiing from north to south.

That's a good idea, but...

Our family have just come back from a weeks ski break here booked through Sunweb.  The reviews made us a little nervous but we can safely say the Residence is value for money and a great location.  We had no troubles that others reviews have mentioned. nb This is the self catering residence above the hotel of the same name

We stayed in a 2 bed + cabin apartment, it could sleep 8, but it would be tight, with 4 of us we were swimming in space. it is true that the rooms are a little tired but you have to look at the value for money.  Our bed was extremely comfortable and our two older kids had no complaints about theirs.

We were lucky and had our own ski cabinet directly outside our front door, so getting ready in the mornings was not the normal hassle of 40 people in a small ski room all trying to get to their skis and boards.  Unlike other residences you could keep your boots in the room and put them on in peace and quiet. nb Not all the rooms have their ski cabinets outside their rooms, but again as you keep your boots in the room you just need to go and pick up your skis.

Getting to the slope was a few steps out to the piste, and if there is plenty of snow you could ski back to the residence's steps. This was even possible in April as the snow declined.

One down side was the kitchen, it was very small and only equipped with a combi microwave and 4 ring hob, so fine for cooking pasta and pizzas, but we could see cooking for eight could be a challenge in organisation.  But you are just a few steps from town with plenty of restaurants. (La Maison has great burgers and the home made Blinis with salmon were to die for).

They also have a strange checkout regime where they ask you to fold up all the towels and bed linens and leave on the table, which they will check before you check out.  As our checkout was 2am in the morning there was no check and we just left the keys in a lock box.

As we had no problems, there was little need to deal with the Staff but when we did, they were both welcoming and helpful.

We would stay here again

The residence is ideally situated (50 m from Caron Square) facing the snow front. (Impeccable for the fireworks of 31 December!!!!) The apartments are spacious and well equipped. The reception is very friendly. (This is said throughout the Val Thorens resort, restaurants, shops, etc... we had a very nice stay!!) We will come back... it is certain!

We had a traumatic experience with the staff in this apartment. We were told check out was at 10 a.m. but we were woken at 5:30 a.m. by a male member of staff absolutely screaming and banging on doors telling us to leave ! As a group of girls this terrified us as we weren’t sure if this was a member of staff or a random person that had broken in to our apartment so we put a chair up against the door to stop the individual re-entering. About 30 minutes later the man had pushed through the chair and threw it across the apartment as-well as our suitcases ! He also swung a door open which had caused one of our friends to be pushed against the wall. We have video evidence of this ! If our travel agent representative had not arrived at this time we would have called the police ! Our deposit was also taken from us as we had to leave the apartment in a hurry and did not have time to clean the rest of the apartment. Disgraceful. 

Do not stay here !!

Don’t stay here , we had an awful experience with the manager named sedrick , we were told check out was at 10 however ,sedrick let himself into our room at 5:30 am while we were sleeping and starting screaming at us to start cleaning and to leave , as a group of girls this was very frightening for a man to enter your room and start screaming. After he left we were so frightened we put a chair in front of the door as he would have had a key to get in . About an hour later he decided to slam open the door through the chair and our suitcases very aggressively , he then slammed open one of the bedroom door which hit off one of the girls into a wall. this was completely out of order and frightening that a member of staff could treat a vulnerable group of girls like this. If one of our NUCO travel agents didn’t turn up on time we would have called the police . As he was leaving he started swearing aggressive words , highly unprofessional. If we do not receive any form of compensation we will be pressing charge, as we have video proof.

I NEVER WANT ANYONE TO STAY HERE PLEASE LISTEN FOR YOUR SAFTEY

Apartment itself was nice enough, however the staff were never around and when they were it was only to be rude. The WiFi was dreadful, only working for about 10 minutes each day and even then at the slowest speeds I've ever experienced. To top it all off, after cleaning the apartment thoroughly prior to departure we were charged €90 for a single 'lost or damaged towel'. For context, even if we had damaged one, these towels were old thin white sheets that could not have cost more than 4 or 5 euros to buy. Exploitation at its very finest. Would not stay here again, very disappointed.
