This is a 2 star hotel but we think it would easily gain another star with a bit of maintenance to the paintwork in the hall area and a new hall carpet, plus tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms.  Our room was very comfortable, with a lovely roomy shower and plenty of room in the bathroom for our things.  The location was great, with only a short walk into the centre.  We would definitely stay here again.

Lons Le Saunier is an exceptional location very littlE looked after by the tourist, aficionado sports or other glam-community. Still  Aristide Briand is asociated with the location, an avenue near the train station named after him, fine buildings exist and a sparcity of impressive references-associations and treets allocated to distinguished historic personalities e.g. Aristide Briand. The Gambetta Hotel is located near the train station, rather uninspiring the location but the hotel is cute and friendly at its core. Fine breakfast service, efficiently family run, iner court garage but no lift which can be cumbersome.

un-fresh but articulate - not salubrious location esp. in summer

Had a quick stop over here. Very central location and just over the road from the train station. On first impression from the outside I thought it didn't look the best, but when I went inside I was quite surprised. I was running late and the lady who runs it stopped up for me. The room was nice with a big comfy bed. The breakfast was lovely, French buffet breakfast, I sat outside in the sunshine, very quiet. Private off road parking. Lots of restaurants in town or even a McDonald's over the road if you are desperate. Pleasant stop over here

Nice location 

We stayed in this hotel just for one night,. The hotel is very nice. some parts are renovated and some are still very old but it was absolutely clean. The bed and shower were fine! The owners were very friendly. it is close to the city center (walking distance)

Nice hotel !

I stayed here for 1 night during a short cycle touring holiday. The hotel is pretty central and, although on a busy road, the double glazing cuts out all exterior noise. Our hostess was very friendly, helpful & with a good sense of humour. She gave us secure storage for the bikes. The main public areas have obviously been refurbished, but as Jo50 says, the rest of the hotel would benefit from a freshening up.There's air-con in the rooms and we had a good shower. The continental breakfast was plentiful & good.The Gambetta was perfect for this trip & for the money. Our wander around Lons during the evening showed it to be an interesting & attractive town. And the cycling was truely beautiful - especially so as it coincided with the start of the grape harvest. The ride up to Chateau-Chalon is stunning, as is the drop down into Baume-les-Messieurs. If I return to Lons, I will certainly return to Hotel Gambetta.
