Cheap prices, good location and very friendly staff. Hygiene was a bit off since I found small hairs from the former resident in the bathroom. Rhe staff doesn't speak english so that's problematic if you don't speak French. There's free WiFi available but it's really weak on the third floor, you'll have to go to a common room at -2 for better Wi-Fi where it works perfectly.

Cheap but decent!

We felt like we stayed in the hospital room...
Room was comfortless and ugly. There was badly painted walls and absolutely no decoration in the room. Very cheap, unnecessary furniture. There was only peace of soap in the bathroom, even though it was written " Free toiletries" included, which I thought shampoo and shower gel must be there.
The location is good and bad in the same time. It is beautiful view from the window and it is few minutes walk to the ancient theater and bastille. BUT you will need to use the taxi or funicular all the time coming back to the hotel from the city center! We climed up the hill ones or twice and then was using the funicular(1.80euro one way ticket). By walk it takes around 15m walk from the hotel (downhill) to the center and around 30m walk up the hill...if you are in the good shape :D
Hotel itself felt cold and not cozy.

Catholic Centre Jean Bosco offers single and twin rooms, mainly for participants of its own events, but also for the others. The rooms themselves are clean, not huge, but spacious enough and basic. Bathrooms are, however, very small, they're actually plastic ready-made bathrooms fitted in one corner of each room, very similar to bathrooms in cheapest hotel chains (like EasyHotel or Ibis Budget). They're clean, as well.
 Since running a hotel is not their main activity, at CJB they do not have a 24 hour front-desk staff. The outside door gets locket at 19:00, and in addition to you room-key, you get a code for entering the CJB afterwards. What’s more, at midnight each day the roller-door over the main door shuts down as well, so you also get another code for entering through two side doors after midnight. I do not know what happens if you have to check-in after 19:00.
CJB is located on top of Fourviere hill, right beside the two Roman theatres (and their museum) and on walking distance from the Lyon basilica. The atmosphere within the CJB is, as expected, a very quiet one. However, the street in front of it gets busy in the morning so you can’t sleep really long if your room is facing it. On the other hand, it’s exactly these rooms that have glorious view on the mentioned ancient theatres and Western part of the whole Lyon.
Being on top of the Fourviere, CJB has main link to the rest of Lyon through the F2 funicular which runs only till 22:00. You can also use the F1 funicular till midnight, but it will bring you only half way up the hill, and you’ll have to walk the rest of the way up. After midnight, you have to walk all the way up the hill.
This, together with being shut already in the evening, clearly suggests that CJB, even though being right above the Vieux (Old) Lyon with many restaurants, bars and cefes, is not a place that could satisfy needs of guests prone to night life. On the other side, its single and twin rooms are not tailored for families either. So, it’s not much of a surprise that, despite having budget prices, they do not get many guests. I’m not sure there was anyone else but me at all. CJB is ideal for solo travelers on a short stay in Lyon.
I did not have the breakfast (served 7:30 - 9:00), so can’t comment it.

Quiet and clean basic accomodation, but neither for families, nor for night-birds

this is more of a hostel in some kind of catholic convent of sorts, just to clarify. but nevertheless, this hostel is absolutely fantastic. the location is slightly out of the way up on the hill behind old lyon which makes it rather easy to find a parking spot. from here, you just take the cablecar, located 200m uphill next to a gorgeous church, straight into the heart of old lyon.

great place with fantastic views

Well, you have to keep in mind that's a modest place. Worth it, considering the amount they charge for a single room, which is similar in price to the best hostels where you have to share the bathroom, but here you can have a private bathroom for you... or almost. I mean, the bathroom is a module adapted to the room, extremely small, but clean and with warm water.
The room itself is large enough, mainly due the presence of only a single bed, a two door closet, and a desk. No TV, telephone, ar conditioner or a simple fan. The heater does not work well and is not able to warm the room even at the spring temperatures of Lyon at night (something around 12ºC).
The WiFi is free but does not work well at the room I was (315), which is a room faced to the nice backyard. Quite silence. As a matter of fact, I hardly have seen other guests, the hotel seemed to be empty.
The breakfast is anounced at the hotel homepage for 4 euros, but they offered to me for 6 euros (the price exhibited at the Booking.com). I refused it.
It's located right next to the two ancient Roman Theatres, and their related museum. But it's not a very good location if you don't have a car with you, because it's next to the top of a hill, the hill where the city was founded, and where the Fourviere church is located. To get there you have to walk a lot from the "Old Lyon" or take the Funiculaire, but this transport has only two lines: one stops at 22:00 (the one that leaves you above the hotel, and you have to walk down the street for about 300 m) and at midnight (this line leaves you at a lower part of the hill, so you have to walk up to the hotel for about 400 m).
There's an interesting space at the second underground level of the building, where you can find TV, computer, books and magazines.
Everything seems to be new and clean.
