The Avy Residence is very centrally located, near the Place Bellecour. We were greeted by a member of staff who showed us up to our room, billed us, and gave us some advice about where to find a 'bouchon' restaurant (these are typical of Lyon). This was a nice welcome, and we appreciated it. 

The room is equipped with some kitchen equipment but it looked pretty basic and we didn't use any of it. A coffee machine would have been a welcome addition to the kit.

The bed was comfortable with a decent mattress. There is nowhere comfortable to sit, but that's pretty standard in hotel and apartment rooms, even the more expensive ones. The big letdown was the bathroom which definitely needs some refurbishment. I washed rather than using the shower as there was a high step up to get into it and I was nervous about not being able to get out of it safely. The shower cubicle is small and it has the old-fashioned French arrangement of a shower head mounted on a bracket at waist height. Also, it looked a bit scruffy. There was black mould on the grout separating the tiles, especially lower down. Towels were thin, but again, this seems to be common.

It's a budget price place and therefore you can't expect too much. The central location makes up for a lot. And the wifi is pretty good. But I wouldn't hurry to stay here again. Next time I'll pay a bit more.

Bathroom lets it down

I really enjoyed my stay here and extended it for 4 days. The location is perfect, right in the centre with easy transport links. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Although value for money some facilities were lacking. Notably an oven a washing machine and a comfortable armchair to sit and read and watch television.

Just spent four nights in this quaint hotel. I received a warm welcome from the couple who run it. The room was large and had all the cooking bits and pieces and a fridge. My room was at the back of the building and had large windows that opened up to a school. There was noise from the children during the day, but as I was out and about that didn't matter, at night time it was silent. Flat screen TV only had French channels, but WiFi strong. Lots of plugs to charge your phone, IPad. Very clean. 

Metro station 150 yards away. Lots of places to eat from restaurant/ bars to bakeries and Subway and McDonalds.

Within twenty minute walk of tourist sites.

Strongly recommend, will return.

Clean,only serviced twice in 2 week stay,then not sufficient towels provided.very basic kitchen some stuff advertised not available - coffee machine.
Owner away on holiday no body to contact if we had problems.
Over all good place to stay,might have been excellant if owner available.
