I stayed at this chic hotel Easter 2016. The owners were delightful and kind. the room was very clean and decorated in chic French boutique style. Breakfast very good very fresh and coffee excellent. I would definitely stay gain and have recommended to my friends.

Delightful Hotel

The L'Ecu de France is a hotel in France who bet you did not know that.Ok now back to the review The L'Ecu de France is on a list off good hotel because it is one of the best out there.Like the rooms are the best and the view is good would go back again.
Ps. I love this place.

The Lecu de France yay

We were here as a group of 16 cyclists for 2 days.  Hotel is situated on a main road which during the day was quite busy, but traffic noise was not an issue overnight.  On street parking is available and there is a large private garage available for bikes. We had a room on the front, fairly basic but it met our needs.  Public areas very pleasant.  The owner was very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.  Dinner was excellent, wine good value.  Waiting staff friendly too.  Breakfast was good, though choice fairly limited.  Nice to have fresh fruit salad for a change.  Coffee was out of a machine, but excellent.  Mauriac is not the most exciting of French towns, but it is surrounded by the most fantastic scenery.

Enjoyable stay

On our motorcycle tour, we found the hotel and was pleased to have a private garage to park our bikes for our overnight stay.

The hotel is in the centre of Mauriac and on our arrival were warmly greeted an shown to our small but comfortable room which was clean and quiet despite being on the main road.   We eat in the hotel restaurant which was excellent value offering a good range of dishes which included a vegetarian option.   The staff were friendly and efficient and overall a good experience.

Breakfast was typical and with good coffee met our needs for the day.

Good stopover for touring

We selected this hotel from the Logis De France list of hotels with a three pot rating for its restaurant and a two chimney rating for the hotel.  We were disappointed with the hotel room.  It and the stairs and corridors needed significant refurbishment.  The equipment in both the bedroom and the bathroom were in need of replacement.  The bed, on the other hand, was very comfortable.  The room was equipped with a mobile room heater.  We did not have breakfast.  We had dinner in the restaurant - there didn’t appear to be many alternatives in the town.  The food was average quality and a rating of two pots would have been more appropriate.   The Patronne provided the service in the restaurant and the Patron prepared the food in the kitchen.  We both had the €29 menu and a carafe of Bergerac Sauvignon blanc wine.  The menu comprised entrée, main course, cheese and desert.   Although the patronne and patron were welcoming and the restaurant service was good we would not revisit this establishment.

Overnight Stay

Reviewing the restaurant which was pretty grim. Made booking but they were difficult when we arrived.  Front of house had few smiles.  My husbands steak was pretty tasteless and I had scollops which were over cooked.  Did not have our first choose of wine

Disappointing

I cannot in good conscience recommend that anyone stay at this hotel.  First, let me say that we DID NOT stay at L'Ecu de France but at it's sister Logis property - Hotel des Voyageurs.  It took us approximately 20+ minutes of hauling our luggage around to figure out how to actually check into the hotel. What we were not told was that there is only one desk clerk that works at both hotels and they are based in the L'Ecu so des Voyageurs front door was locked (with no note as to why).  There was a note on the front desk inside the hotel requesting that people go around the corner to the other hotel if they needed anything.  However, how can a person just checking into the hotel ever know that?

The hotel room was the smallest in which we stayed in France (1 of 8 places we stayed) and was institutional and depressing.  The uni-pillow gave both my husband and myself a neck ache. Yes, it was cheap, however, we had very few hotels options in Mauriac.  Had we known how bad this place was, we would have picked a different town entirely.

The hotel is located on a busy street and next door to a public parking lot where teenagers spent approximately 10 hours (until about 4:00 a.m.) yelling, revving the engines on their motorcycles and racing up and down the street.  We didn't sleep at all that night.

Even though we reserved breakfast the next morning, we opted out.  We arrived 30 minutes after breakfast serve began and found it picked over already.  Given that breakfast costs 8 euros a person, it was cheaper to just walk across the street to the bakery and purchase a couple of croissants for less than a euro each.  That's essentially all that was left at the breakfast buffet anyway.

As an aside, the restaurant in L'Ecu de France was delicious.  It was literally the only redeeming part of our stay in Mauriac.
