I had a super 2 nights stay at the Masion des Baux Arts. The accommodation is situated in the main street of the town. Roland the host and owner was there to greet me and show me around his beautiful home. Each room decorated in a different way and with a wonderful artistic touch. If you are looking for a place to stay you will enjoy it.

Great two night stay

As the name suggests, the house has plenty of queer paintings and sculptures. The garden and pool are really lovely. Watch out for mosquitoes in the evenings. We had the Princess room, which is supposed to have a mountain view. But the mountain is rather distant, so the view isn't spectacular. The room was nice and spacious. The door was not sound proof. The toilet had four large holes (art!), so this room wouldn't be suitable for people who need privacy in the loo. The owner seems eccentric but nice, and suggested places to visit. Food is not allowed in the rooms, which can be irksome if you are vegans like us.

Eccentric stay for art-lovers

Although slightly dark, our room was a decent size, with tasteful décor and the bed was comfortable.  The shower was powerful but had a tendency to noisily spit out water in the night and there were very limited places to hang towels. Also the toilet door was designed with large diamond shaped holes cut in it, which I found strange.  The wardrobe did not have hanging space for a full length coat or dress - meaning we could never properly unpack.  The room was also heavily scented to the point of being over-powering.   Art over function...

My main concern with staying here would be safety:

1. Both the room and front door to the property need to be key opened from the inside.  This presents a potential risk in the event of fire.
2. The shutters outside the room are not easily reached to close and in doing so you need to lean precariously over a low balcony
3. We had an electrical fault in our room during the stay.

The garden is very pleasant with a small salt-water pool, shaded areas and comfortable sun-loungers.  Do watch out for mosquitoes though.  There is additionally an indoor lounge area and fully-equipped kitchen that is available for use.  This is excellent.

Although breakfast is not included in the price of the room, it is great value at €10 per person, with fresh croissants, juice, fruit, pastries and coffee. When we arrived we were told we needed to say in advance if we wanted breakfast.  When we said nothing on the second day it was assumed we wanted breakfast....even though we had other plans.  This wasn't a major problem but it did make it slightly awkward explaining the breakfast prepared for us was not required.

Roland the host has very good English is keen to be friendly. He is also very knowledgeable about all the local towns and made some fabulous recommendations for us.

The property is in an excellent location in the centre of a beautiful town, car parking is 200 meters away in a small car park....you can park in the street at certain times too.

Although the residence is fairly clean and well maintained, it felt like they were not used to guests staying more than a day or two.  We stayed four nights and had to ask for the sheets to be changed, and ended up taking toilet roll from another room when ours ran out.  We also needed to request more shower gel when that ran out.
