This is the second time that I have stayed at this hotel. On both occasions I was on a cycling holiday and just passing through. The dining room is great - though it's a real pity that there is no evening meal available here. The view over the river below is stunning from the dining room. The room was comfortable and as were the beds. When the owner was present we were made to feel welcome. She locked our cycles in a secure store room, which was great. The hotel is very central and within easy reach of decent places to eat. Value for money was OK, but not great.

 · Breakfast could have been better. The coffee was disappointing. It is described as a hotel but we found that it was closed until 16.00 and had to wait three hours to drop our stuff off, which meant that we didn't really have an opportunity to check out the sights in the pretty town of Mayenne.

Good place to stay if you are passing through - if you want food, you'll need to walk into the town.

La Tour des Anglais is housed in one end of the castle walls and looks down on the River Mayenne. Rooms are clean and spacious and the staff friendly, helpful and adequate English to allow understanding. We didn't try breakfast as we were never up in time. Located close to the town centre, it was easy to find bakeries and cafés for café aux lait and croissants in the morning, and tasty local specialities in the pub restaurants in the evening

Ideal

Reasonable accommodation on the edge of the old town, Restaurant closed on our visit in August, didn't try breakfast. Locked room for cycle. Annoying wifi you have to keep logging into. Poor decor, needs a refresh.

The Hotel is situated right next to the Chataeu and near some very nice cafés and restaurants. The Hotel is very clean, tidy and very presentable. the room we had was idea for two peole, the bed was nice and soft and a good size shower too. Also as a bonus the owner (a very nice lady who runs the whole Hotel on her own) there is a small hut to put your bikes away safley and locked away. The breakfast was very good and a good range from thye usual breakfast in france, we have  already booked to go back again.

Short break by bike

This Hotel is well placed if you want to go out into Mayenne centre. Secure car park close to accommodation is also a plus. As for the Hotel itself the best word to describe it is functional and adequate. Rooms are clean but have nothing but the basic amenities. Perfect for an overnighter but if you are staying longer then I would suggest that you look a little more up market.
We stopped overnight (Early Sept) before heading North the Hotel Bar closed at around 7:00 pm and the restaurant was not open. Returning from a meal at 10:00 pm we found the reception was shut. This is not untypical of a French budget hotel so if you intend to stay then it would be best to enquire as to what you can expect during your stay.
Our experience was not the best; towels x 2 were small, hot water took some time to get through the pipes which made showering a bit of a gamble. Having said that for 65 euro per night I suppose you can't grumble to much.
