Not far from the city of Troyes, the property is set in an inviting park and owned and run by a very nice couple. There is free parking and an adequate breakfast.
Accommodations are rather spartan, thus only four stars.

Charming, but rather spartan

The accommodation was satisfactory, but as we were delayed due to storms we got there later than expected. As a result the electric gates were shut, we tried ringing the reception and after a lengthy wait somebody answered and we were eventually let in. 
Reason for the poor review is to advise anybody thinking of booking is, don't expect to get any reply to emails from this establishment. It was on the following day that my wife thought that she left something in the room of the Chateau,(total value £1800.00) I sent two emails, one in French and the other in English explaining the loss situation.  To this date I have not received any contact from the premises.  
I'm still trying to talk to somebody in authority.

Be Cautious

Having booked for two nights on the basis of their false publicity, we were very disappointed after the first night. The dinner was minimal at best. The risotto was a spoonful on the plate with no flavour. The ratatouille was two teaspoons. The merlan was dry. The dessert was a shop bought chocolate muffin sitting in tasteless custard. The waitress/receptionist informed us that she was leaving the building at 20:15, locking both exit doors and asking us to switch out the lights. No details were provided in the event of fire. On the basis of that experience we decided to leave after one night. We were told that the credit card reader was not working and that we would have to pay by bank transfer. Having a French bank account, we set up the necessary arrangement and tested it successfully. During breakfast we informed the receptionist that we were going to leave, and she gave us clearly to understand that that would be acceptable. When asked for the invoice for one night, she informed us that the owner (David Moreau) insisted that we pay for two nights. I asked to speak with him on the telephone, and we had a very unpleasant conversation in French. Our explanations were met with a threat that he would call the police, which he duly did within minutes, instructing the receptionist to block our car so that we could not leave. After a lengthy conversation with the police during which we were told that we would have to accompany them to a cash machine to pay the bill (which we never saw) in cash, the receptionist finally produced a credit card reader in working order. We paid for the second night, much against our better judgement, and will never return . 

An immensely disappointing and unpleasant experience

Just occasionally you stumble across a real gem and this is one of those times. A beautifully refurbished chateau with fantastic rooms. Our room had a large bathroom with separate toilet and was well furnished with everything that you could need. There is an honesty fridge in the main dining room and peasant grounds to wander around. We had a meal and whilst there is no choice it was cooked with flair and care and well worth the price. Wine is also available. We stopped for two nights and whilst there was no meal on the Sunday evening you are spoilt for choice in nearby Troyes or pop over to the lake as we did with some great little restaurants.

A chic chateau

Not the grandest of chateaus from the outside, but the inside is wonderfully decorated and the bedrooms are divine! it is set in beautiful woodland and only a 10 minute drive from the historic town of Troyes, We stayed for dinner and the food was fabulous, although there is no choice of menu and we were not asked for our preferences or allergies. We were the only people staying for dinner, so although a little quiet - we were very well looked after. The family are very friendly and everything is very clean and comfortable.

Wonderful for a short stay

We discovered Château de Montabert when looking for somewhere to stay to break our journey from Calais to the alps. 

What a fabulous place! In a quiet village set in beautiful grounds the location could not be better. 

The rooms are large and very comfortable. 

Dinner is optional (you need to tell them in advance) and is a set menu . However, we were not disappointed. David is an amazing chef and the three course meal was stunning as was the included breakfast. 

Vanessa and David are fantastic hosts and we will definitely be back.

Fabulous

Beautiful small Chateau not too far from the motorway  - perfect night stop.

I arrived late due to traffic but just in time for a delicious three course dinner.

The room is tastefully decorated and a spotless bathroom and Uber comfy bed.

No aircon but not needed at this time of year and two lovely large windows overlooking the grounds.

Breakfast was delicious with a good selection to suit most tastes. Important point good bean to cup coffee machine.

Parking was in the secure courtyard of the Chauteau so no need to unpack the car.

It may not be to everyone’s taste but I loved the warm family welcome 🤗

Why have I not found this before !

- Direction allowing you to enter the rented bubble and take back the heating remote control while a meal was being held the next day (room rented from Saturday to Sunday at 4pm) - deplorable heating: heating side guests receive ventilation directly on them, right environment, while guests placed 80cm from the windows it is the cold that falls on them No service. Dirty chairs and tables. Displaced monitoring without forgetting the obligation to leave the cars more than 500 meters from the bubble and to walk with heels in the grills with more under the rain!!!! The outside frame may be a beautiful but invisible under the rain, I'm also doubtful about the possibility of constant monitoring of the direction of the excursions, especially about the cleaner and more pleasing quality of the room, and some of the cleaner and cleaner rooms are seen.

Marriage

Lovely spot for a short break. A mini chateau in its own grounds, with only five bedrooms. Our bedroom was immaculate,  well appointed and with big windows looking onto the grounds. Really peaceful. We enjoyed a long leisurely breakfast - delicious - and were happy to sit out in the grounds or by the pool, felt progressively more idle as day went by. We had dinner on the first night which we really enjoyed. There is no choice, just the three courses offered, but utterly delicious. There is not much in the immediate area, but a short drive (about 20 minutes) each way to Troyes and Lac d’Orient (and the fantastic Belvedere restaurant). Champagne and Chablis a little further but nice empty roads through countryside. Other guests were using the chateau as a stop-over for one or two nights, couldn’t think of a nicer place to break a journey or stay a bit longer.

We arrived at the castle of Montabert on 14 August, we all first waited 15 minutes for someone to welcome us. We were taken to our bubble on the waterfront with us dinner plate at 30€ per unit... Surprise these same dinner plates had already 24 hours so let me imagine the state of the bread... Little shower to relax and yet another little surprise no shower gel, milk for the body is available but no frosty shower gel... It's time to go to bed, it's true that the concept is great all just a wonderful one... Unfortunately when we wake up, from the rain we ask to have breakfast on the phone because we have a goodbye, we say yes, we insist and in addition they ask that we go ahead and pay for the shower gel, milk for the body is available but no weird frosty gel... It's time to go to bed, it's true that the concept is great all just a wonderful one.
