No doors to the bathroom, no space in the room to move how small it is, waking up by 20(!) flies in the room every morning because sleeping with the window open is normally nice, asking for another blanket and getting the answer “you have one that’s enough”, asking for a mug instead of a bol de cafe and getting a rude “non, you have to use the bol” but the landlord himself is drinking from a mug, the constant attitude of the landlady lecturing one all the time!Serously?!Just a horror place to stay!

From the initial charming and warm welcome through to the end of the stay, we were delighted with our time at the Les Chambre D'Hotes de Magali. 
The room was beautifully decorated in calming colours, which suited the mountain village environment. It was clear that the utmost care had been taken in the decor and furnishing of the room, right down to the local artisan products found in the bathroom. (NB be aware that the bathroom is separated from the bedroom only by a curtain, this was no problem for us and in keeping with the style of the place, but we're mentioning so that you are not expecting something else!). 
The host was outstanding and the breakfast time gave her a chance to show her attentiveness and care for the guests' needs. Breakfast was the best we have had in Corsica, delicious local yoghurt, accompanied by homemade jams, pastries, and two types of cake, which were beautifully introduced to us. These were accompanied by fresh orange juice and cats of coffee or tea. The host also took time to help us plan a day, showing us destinations and suggested routes on her maps and imparting invaluable local advice to guests. 
The Chambre D'Hotes are located in the midst of a traditional hillside town which is full of charm itself. Not necessarily the easiest to find, but worth it. On entering the hamlet, turn right and park by the roadside somewhere. Find the passageway in the left corner before the road drops to the right and walk about 80m along until you see a sign and steps coming back up on the left. 

This short journey into the hills away from the bustle of Calvi is so worthwhile, unless big hotel stays and anonymity are for you!


Sets the standard for chambres d'hotes

A spotless, comfy and delicious B&B in the heart of this serene and peaceful environment.
The only hiccup could be the lack of accoustic insulation between rooms but hardly a problem among well brought up people.


In the heart of "la Balagne"

I spent four nights in early July together with my wife and we appreciated the tranquility and coziness of this chambre. This hotel is secluded and best enjoyed for people who want to rest and relax. At the same time the city of Calvi is only 10-15 min away by car, so I would suggest the location is very good.

This chambre is run as a family business and Madame Etienne Ambrosini is a warm and considerate host which made us feel welcome and at ease immediately. She speaks only French, but I would not let that deter you if your French skills are poor. She makes every effort to speak with you and really tries to understand; besides combined with gestures and other means I am convinced you will get along. I do not speak French, although I have some knowledge. My skills are worse than poor but still I communicated quite well with Madame Ambrosini, which will give you some idea about her patience and willingness to make her guests comfortable!

The sleeping quality of this hotel is absolutely unmatched. We slept with the window open and woke up to the sound of swallow birds with a mountain view. After breathing fresh mountain air for the whole night we felt totally refreshed every morning. There is no AC but trust me; it gets cold enough for good sleep up in these mountains.

Breakfast is typically French, small and sweet with homemade marmelade, good coffee, croissants and yoghurt with the vanilla grains on top. Look at the photos and imagine it taste even better. You eat together with the other guests on the top floor with a stunning view.

We stayed 14 days in Cote de Azur and Corsica on a total of four different hotels, and we rank this as our second best overall. It was a close call; the sleeping quality and breakfast were absolutely best here.

For driving on Corsica I must of course recommend a GPS. However, to find and locate this hotel for the first time is quite easy. The key landmark is Camp Raffalli, which is the base of the second parachute regiment of the French Foreign Legion. A huge site just outside Calvi en route to Ille Rousse. If you drive from Calvi then turn RIGHT in the last roundabout BEFORE Camp Raffalli, if you miss it you just make a U-turn and go back. If you drive the other way from Ille Rousse to Calvi you turn LEFT just AFTER you have passed Camp Raffalli. Once you make that turn there are signs towards Montegrosso and later on towards Cassano which is the village where this hotel is located.

There are only three downsides with this hotel. There is no door between the bathroom and bedroom, only a drape of cloth; there are no common areas outside in the shade for reading or just relaxing; and finally the outer door is locked with a key (distributed to all guests), and there is no quick way to open the door in case of an emergency. This means that in case of a fire during the night, someone would have to unlock that door while blinded by the smoke and coughing. There is 3 m down to the ground if you jump out the window so I suggest this is the best escape route. Having said that, I must again emphasize that this is overall a fantastic establishment!

Absolutely wonderful experience to stay here!

My wife and I stayed at Les Chambres d'hotes de Magali for two nights in September 2012, and I can't say enough positive about our stay. Magali and her husband Etienne are wonderful people and instantly made us feel at home. Our room was comfortable (and of course clean) and tastefully decorated as was the rest of the B&B. Breakfast (traditional french) was excellent and the other guests were happy to engage in conversation with this not perfect French speaker. Magali was right on with her restaurant recommendations, and I really enjoyed dinner at the family-run place right in Cassano. 

The location of the B&B is calm and relaxing, with great views up to the mountains. It is perfect if you want to be away from the coastal bustle around Calvi and Isle Rousse yet not too far away from either town or the beaches. Also a good location if you plan on hiking town-to-town in the Balagne region. Magali said the path is accessible right from town but we drove to begin elsewhere. 

In sum, if I ever go back to Corsica, I'll certainly go back to this B&B.
