Having seen the contrasting review we must have fallen on the side . Reception , the first impression at most hotels was a tip I honestly thought the had been robbed and would have told them so if there had been anyone there , yes we were early but it does call itself a bar restaurant . So off we went and eventually found somewhere to park . On our return to the hotel ,again after much shouting someone appeared , We where show to our room not in the hotel but some 40 yards away in an annex . The room was not very clean and the decor was very old and tired . Shower in the bath but no shower curtains. Towels clean but thread bare. We left the next morning at 7:30 only to find both hotel and restaurant doors locked Threw the key through an open window in the door and left dragging our cases over very rough terrain ( their idea of a garden terrace ) back to our car . Drove down the equally rough road and freedom.

Parallel Universe

I don't for a second think that this hotel is for everyone, as I think the reviews have proven, but if you are a lover of the extraordinary and you unique you will love this place. It has a wonderful, almost theatrical, playfullness to it. I suspect Madam was on the stage or worked as a model in her younger years. She has a wonderful elegance and poise which is a rare commodity. She could not have been more charming and helpful and I felt very spoilt siting in that grand dining room full of white linen and pink china in the mornings. 
I travel a great deal for business and pleasure and hotel rooms are increasingly samey, dumbed down to suit the lowest common denominator so it brought a smile to my jaded face to be somewhere so wonderfully exuberant! Yes it is tired and some may say dated but Thank God places like this exist. Great breakfast and perfectly situated in the centre of this lovely town. I also had a bath which is something of a rarity in France and was a real joy. Defiantly not a place for those with mediocre minds.

A Unique Hotel in what can often be a commonplace world

This restaurant was literally the worst ever! They got my order wrong, included ingredients that I am allergic too, were slow, and were out of many items on the menu. On the way out, another patron told me that the place was TERRIBLE! Have you ever been to a place so bad that you were warned?! Don't waste your time proving that yes, it is possible to have a bad meal in France!

Stay Away!

I arrived in Montignac not knowing what to expect and was taken a back by this restaurant/bar/hotel. The waiters were friendly and the location was breathtaking. The hotel has a small stream running through it and a lovely little garden in the back. The style is quite unique with a blend of old-fashioned  furniture and warm colours.
The food was lovely and the wine,
Well the wine was french. In other words wonderful.
I loved every moment and can't wait to eventually go back.

A wonderful experience

An unique old French hotel. Run by a lady called Annie who couldn't have been more friendly. Although we do speak some French she spoke pretty good English. The food here is amazing. The service is a little slow but it didn't matter there's plenty to look in the restaurant interior, which is pretty fabulous, and the garden has a little running stream. 

We stayed one night in the hotel. The twin room we had was fine for a brief stay, it's a bit tatty but it's private and tucked away behind down a small lane from the main road with lovely French shutters on the windows. The bathroom was clean, and everything was neat and tidy. This place is worth a visit just to step back in time. It's not modern. It's got character and we loved it. Just a shame there's no wifi!
