You can tell a lot from the outside of a hotel. Tete Noire desperately needs re-painting and the plant troughs need to be planted out properly to give kerb appeal. While the rooms were ok, corridors are dingy, the windows need good clean and  the carpets should be replaced. We realise the owners are working on this and I think once these things have been done, it will be a more welcoming place. We avoided breakfast here and chose a lively cafe instead - the bleak dining room was no attraction.

Needs a lot of work

We stopped here for the night en route through Loire, on pilgrimage so to speak to La Tourette. It's centrally located, clean enough but cramped, with a few broken devices. The dinner was uninspired by French standards, but certainly wholesome. Some dinners are worth a three hour repast - this was not one of them. 

Urbane but tired

Our first night in Burgundy after a long drive, looking for anticipated good food and ambience. What a find this was! 

The welcome and seating at the table was very friendly, the help with the menu, which we needed a little, was generously given and very precise. But all the time there was a smile and warmth from the host and his other staff. 

The food was excellent, the suggested wine was perfect as an accompaniment. We had a full meal and managed to come away with change from €80.

But Logis are always good, you say. Yes, but they have to work at it too. Thanks to all staff for a great welcome to our holiday in Burgundy. You deserve to be top of the pops in Autun.

Superb dinner and service

We spent 10 days exploring the Loire/Cher Valley and this was hands down the worst hotel we had. It purports to be a 3 star hotel, but I would not give it a single star. It is tired, untidy, and disorganized. If this is your only choice go to another town.

Not worth your time

We arrived at 5 ish to find the place shut, despite our reservation.  We were able to find our way in round the back, and after 20 mins or so, the perfectly friendly proprietor turned up, without batting an eyelid.

The hotel is on the edge of Montrichard, and from the outside is dated and unprepossessing.  Inside, it's even more dated and even less prepossessing.  The decor has never been in fashion, and the place has the air of a hotel that has been shut for a couple of years.  Our room was upstairs, along a corridor, through a weird sort of lounge with stuffed deer, herons and so on, along another corridor, up a short flight of stairs, down another, round a corner ... .

In fact, our room was perfectly comfortable, a good size, and with a well appointed (but still a bit odd) bathroom.  Breakfast was fine, in a slightly more modern room than expected.

There is nothing actually wrong with this place, but it is unlikely that we shall be troubling them again.
