The chateau has been beautifully restored and unlike other chateaux that we have stayed in where you get great aunt Mathilde’s old bed and tired antique furniture, (although it still had a sit in bath with a shower head), the Chateau de Murviel has been beautifully furnished as well. We couldn’t fault our room. Excellent beds and luxuriously decorated. And the pillows were great too - amazing in France. The hosts were really friendly and offered us aperitifs on arrival and organised us take away pizza to eat in their delightful courtyard and delicious local wine to go with it. Lovely continental breakfast. The chateau has been renovated and decorated to an international standard, with Balinese influences where the owners lived. Excellent air-conditioning in the room. We will definitely be staying again. Also visit local vineyard St Martin des Champs where we got award winning wine the next morning. 

Beautiful  chateau 

Chateau de Murviel  is magnificent!  The views are spectacular. Jocelyn is a wonderful host, and we also enjoyed  meeting her hospitable family.  The  castle is immaculate and beautifully decorated. It is difficult to find, though, even with GPS.  We wound up parking the car and walking to the highest point in order to find it, then walking back for the car. Try to get directions from the host!
Breakfast was delicious. Be sure to visit the castle's amazing church.  We could not have asked for a better accommodation because Chateau de Murviel is simply the best!

Wonderful stay at Chateau de Murviel!

We stayed here with a large group (18 people) and it was magical. This place is absolutely wonderful and charming. It is hard to arrive by car (you have to find the route that your car will fit through!). But the town is cute and this chateau sits at the top of the little town - it is out of a storybook / fairy tale!

Magical Place and Lovely Owners

I wanted something different to stay, not just a hotel or a villa. We found a wonderful chateau, very old one, located on the top of the hill in the middle of Beziers old town. It was a challenge to reach the place by a car, the roads were extremely narrow, but we made it.
It felt like knights are staying with us. The place has a wonderful breakfast with home-made jams.

The best Chateau in the area

After numerous chain hotels enroute to the south, this jewel of a hotel captured all     that is wonderful about real France. 

Make sure you follow the hotel's directions and not the Sat Nav, as the narrow roads which wind up to this hidden jem can be very tight. Also, don't panic when you reach the ancient archway leading to the parking area outside the hotel's gates;  yes it's narrow,  but cars can pass through.

Once inside the hotel's gates and in the beautiful oasis of the courtyard, we instantly felt relaxed and spellbound by the age and beauty of the hotel. Don't expect luxury but do expect a true sense of rustic French charm as this hotel provides it by the bucketful.
 
We were staying as a family of 3 with our teenage son. The room was very clean and perfectly presented. The beds incredibly comfy and out of all the hotels we had stayed in, we had the best nights sleep ever. The size of the town and the chateau's position above all the other houses was perfect. The night sky had no light pollution and the stars were a wonder above the roof tops. Absolute peace and quiet. 

The extra charm came in the form of the resident hotel cat, who made us very welcome whilst sharing the view from our room. Just another way in which we felt the hotel was more than just a room to stay in but a place to feel like home. 

Pure bliss. 

The lovely lady who runs the hotel (apologies as hopeless with names) gave us a very warm welcome and made sure we were well cared for and nothing was too much trouble. She was fantastic. 

We only hope that this hotel can retain its charm in a world of hustle and bustle because this is what makes it magical.

Final tip, be sure to reserve a table at Le Guard Manger (the hotel will do this for you). See separate review for this restaurant but just to say here that this restaurant served what should be considered the highest quality food of a standard rarely found in some of London or Paris' top restaurants. You'll be given a chance to sample some of the most wonderful local produce, in the most amazing and creative menus we have tasted. Enjoy 😆



True French Charm

This is the castle in Murviel lès Béziers which has the B&B Chateau de Murviel. The mayors office is also located in the castle building. The B&B has a genuine French charm in an historic atmosphere with a beautiful view over the valley with vineyards.
