Location location location. Smack bang in the middle of everything. Basic but spotless. Fridge in the room which was great. Staff where great, friendly and helpful. Lovely and bright once you get to the  hotel which is on the 3rd floor.  Don’t let the ground floor put you off. Great value compared to some others.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Love the old elevator and floors. Real classic feel. Very good location amid all the restaurants and fantastic view of the beach. Nice terrace to get fresh air. Good security. Parties nearby was a bit noisy so probably ideal for young travelers who stay out late.

What a gem, the upgraded sea view room was awesome, so worth the extra money and the hotel is a great bargain anyway.  we were in room 1 and shared the balcony but we had our own chairs too.  You don't get a better view of the sea than this for the price.  Our room was HUGE.  we had an updated bathroom, a king bed (unheard of in Europe)  a kitchenette,  hot pot and AC,  ect 
I have no idea why there was a bad review about the staff, a young man checked us in and was terrific, he explained how to get in and out of the building, which was a bit trickey.  Marion kindly provided us with ice and all you had to do was call on the phone in your room to get service.
the only hard part was finding the hotel as it is between 2 stores and the entry is to an apartment building.  the initial impression is shabby but well worth staying there with the beautiful room.  some people complained about the elevator but there was an elevator!!!!  some of the other places we stayed in France did not have one at all.
A suggestion is to bring water shoes, it was so hard to get into the water as it is a rocky beach, no sand to be found.  The color is amazing though.
all and all my favorite hotel and city in France!!!!!

LOVED this hotel, opt for the upgrade to the balcony sea view room!

My review is based on the price of the accommodation.

Stayed with a small group of single travellers, where other accommodation was 3~4 times the price of hotels in the area, and as we wanted to stay near all of the nightlife, which was going on until at least 2am outside, we got exactly what we wanted.

The hotel is very dated and in need to renovation.

Positives :
+ Lift to hotel on 3rd floor (3 people max)
+ Outstanding location, with views of the beach from the rear terrace
+ Excellent price
+ Excellent bed, very comfortable
+ Excellent air conditioning
+ Very helpful owners/staff
+ Daily cleaning
+ Cafe underneath hotel
+ Near to Ma Nolans irish bar
+ Good double glazing in room to keep noise out
+ Good hotel security

Negatives :
- Rooms are very basic
- Shower head needs replacing
- Bathroom very very small
- Not suitable for couples/families
- Lots of loose floor tiles outside hotel on stairs
- Tiles in bathroom need regrouting.

Definitely stay again based on the above due to the excellent pricing.

Outstanding value

the hotel itself is old. like really old. hard to find your way into the first stay, the door is hidden in what most people would think is the back of the building, and then 3 floors up on the stairs on the smallest elevator you have ever seen.
great people, they keep it clean. rooms are small, but you won't really use it other than for sleeping anyway...the location cannot be beat and they have a huge 3rd floor deck overlooking the mediterranean.
it has air conditioning in the rooms, which is a necessary, however pretty rare treat in this part of the world.
cafe/bakery at the main floor, tons of restaurants and farmers market all very close at hand.

You couldn’t get a better location for the price, hotel perfectly located in the heart of the old town.

Weekend in Nice

The pictures are overly exaggerated from what you'll see in person and the staff were not nice. Pay a little more and stay somewhere else in my opinion. I have never stayed in a hotel in the city where the staff are so out of focus with customer service. GIVE THIS A MISS

Avoid at all costs

Stayed for 4 nights for a sightseeing stay in Nice. The hotel is in an excellent location, it occupies the 3rd floor of a 5 storey building next to The Opera; ground floor is a boulangerie, 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th floors are apartments. Entry is through a communal hallway and lift which to say it was shabby would be too kind - very tatty and  uncared-for. However, having said that, once you get into the hotel itself, things improve and the rooms have been decorated in a 'shabby chic' style in its best sense. The bathroom in particular exceeded my expectations, with a very modern shower. there is a small kitchenette, with a hob, coffee maker and fridge but bizarrely only one bowl and 2 plates. we were in room 1 which 
had  direct access to a communal terrace overlooking the seafront which was a lovely spot for breakfast and an evening drink. The rooms were clean, serviced daily and the beds firm but comfortable. Be aware that there isn't a manned reception at this hotel - we were met on our arrival (at 5pm) by a helpful young woman who explained keys, Wi-Fi, sir-com controls etc and then left for the night. During our 4 day stay we saw her once in passing, so getting an extra pillow was managed by a note left for the girl who serviced the room. We are independent travellers so no problem for us but potentially could be for the less confident of less experienced guest.

Less a hotel, more a serviced apartments - 2 star accomodation, 4 star view

Possitives:
- location - the best for tourists,
- excellent sae view from terrace - actually roof of Mercure,
- nice and clean rooms, bathrooms - new,
- also breakfast available just under in Cafe.

Negatives:
 - quite terryfiing common corridors in house - the holel is only one floor.

Super location

We stayed here during the first week of August.It is perfectly located just off the beach and in the old town.The hotel is on the 3rd floor and had a narrow street entrance but don’t let that deter you. It has everything you require for a beach holiday.Spacious rooms with air conditioning, fantastic sea view from the communal balcony and friendly helpful staff .We would stay again
