We arrived at a locked gate to the Manor at 3:30pm, using the buzzer and phone number we couldn't make contact with the hotel. So we had to phone our booking agent to contact them on our behalf - it turned out check wasn't until 5pm and no access could be gained to the property until then. Upon returning at 5:30pm we were again confronted with the locked gate, second time of trying the buzzer and phoning. Second time of no response and again we contacted our booking agent, who eventually got us in! Not the welcoming start you expect to a stay. 

Our room was quirky, clean and had a very comfortable bed. The location was good, within walking distance of the town. Although returning from dinner all the lights in the building were out at 9:30pm and we had to use mobile phone light to let ourselves in and go upstairs to our room - perhaps lights on a timer might be a good idea!

Breakfast was excellent.

I think the 'icing on the cake' was when we went to leave - we had handed in our keys and fob to the gate and were told we would be let out of the gate. It took 15 mins for the gate to be opened for us to get out!!

Owner refusing access with a baby, no chance of finding a solution, leaving a single mother with no possibility of accommodation and besides no gesture of charging the full amount... this gentleman has no morals...

An institution that deserves no stars

Six nights in even the charming guest room had not yet come to us. And my God for the first time it was a real discovery. The first place, a nice private hotel furnished with taste. A Marjolaine suite, perfect for spending several nights, beautiful proportions, 4 huge windows overlooking the park.

We arrived early and just wanted to pick up our trailer with a scooter so we wouldn't leave it on the street.

To be avoided at all!

The suite Out of Africa is splendid and very spacious but the Marjolaine Suite has nothing to envy. In the summer you can also enjoy the terrace or the garden.

A Magical Place

We spent there at the suite room on Friday night and Saturday night.
Each morning, Roosters screaming at 4 o'clock am the whole morning!
The private owner of this hotel owns 5 Roosters. 
It was obvious he doesn't care about guests get good sleep or not.
Both of two days, we could not sleep well because of that.
We told the owner about it on the first morning.
But the owner even did not say SORRY or anything.
He just said he knows about it......
We realized that we made the wrong choice of picking up this hotel.
Inside hotel is very old but sadly there was not well maintained. 
The bathroom had a big water leak stain on the ceiling.
After bed-making, the maid did not change the used coffee cups. She had left new coffee powder and tea bags next to the used coffee cups without wash to clean used coffee cups.
I believe this is the style of this hotel...I guess.
And they don't speak English at all I believe.
The nightstand was broken but did not fix it.
When I tried to turn on the light, the nightstand neck was fallen dawn.
This hotel was supposed NON-smoking hotel but when we enter our suite room, the room smell full of smoking smell.
The old mansion has to be well maintained in order to make money from the guests.

Do I recommend this place to other people?
Absolutely NOT!

COULDN"T SLEEP WELL!! 4 o'clock in the morning 5 Roosters started to screaming every morning!

From the moment my husband and i arrived at the hotel, we noticed that something was not right. When we arrived, we were welcomed coldly, as if were were not meant to be there at all. We then were shown to our room, but it was not the room we had booked. When we asked about this, we were told rudely that we could "go and find another place to stay, and we would get a full refund". This was not at all polite or considerate, considering that my husband and I had travelled from London, and that i was pregnant and therefore just wanted to rest. Even if we wanted, it was late in the day to find another place to stay. We, of course accepted the room, but then finally asked if there were any vegetarian options for breakfast, as my husband doesn't eat meat. Shockingly , we were told in an aggressive tone that the hotel was not a "5* hotel", and they would not "be serving couscous for breakfast". [for reference, couscous is commonly referred to as a meal served in Morocco, Algeria areas, and is seen as a 'foreign and muslim' meat-based meal]. All we wanted was some reassurance that there could be an alternative to charcuterie for breakfast, but the comment from the owner was clear racist undertones given that my husband is of asian heritage and wears a white turban, which was mistaken for traditional muslim attire.

This type of treatment is not something that anyone, regardless of their background or faith, should experience. This is unacceptable in the 21st century.

Racist comment and attitude  by owner ruined our stay

200 euros a room! go somewhere else, it'll cost you less for a better quality service and besides you'll probably have someone nice to welcome you, because in Marjolaine, that's not the case. And breakfast has nothing luxurious, don't rely on what's written. Going there is philanthropy or social action.

We spent 5 days in the suite Out of Africa which is spacious, beautifully laid out and has a large terrace. The building is beautiful just like the park. And if you love the animals it's even better, almost domestic chickens come to peck in your hand. Breakfast is excellent, especially homemade yogurt. Not to mention that Magalie the hostess is very friendly, we enjoy talking to her because she knows how to make it comfortable. Last but not least, despite the lack of pain and the heat of the moment, we didn't get the heat.

A wonderful discovery

Be careful to wait until the gate is fully opened so that you do not get caught up in your thoughts at the reception. Very nice building in a pleasant and bucolic setting. TV in the room but be careful, big black dot, wifi that does not work in the room. Very good breakfast to wake up every 5 minutes by the cock (we come from the countryside but we advise you to close your windows).
