Lovely place to break a journey to SW France. A warm welcome, plenty of parking, a comfortable room with all the bits and pieces and a really nice breakfast boosted by a home-cooked cheesecake. There's a pool, too, but since you can't check in until 5.30 and by then (like us) probably have eyes on a shower, change and dinner in the village's only restaurant, that's a huge waste. Hence the four-star rating rather than five.

Perfect overnight stop

A great comfortable place to stay and the owners were very welcoming and really couldn't do enough for us. The rooms are well equipped and the wifi is fantastic so if your like us and need to down load films for the kids on the long journey this is the place. There is only one restaurant in town which was closed on the night we were there so we had take away pizzas in the garden instead which was much more fun. 

Trip through France

We booked this B&B to the north of Niort for one night after viewing some gardens on an extremely hot day!  We found it easily enough, nice large board outside and plenty of parking space. We were greeted on arrival and shown our rooms (we were travelling with 2 friends). Our host did not speak English, but our friends are quite fluent so understood when she explained about breakfast and the pool. We discussed with her the best place for an evening meal and she said she would book us a table at the local pizzeria/restaurant.  We decided to make use of the pool to cool off after a long hot day. The pool temperature was 25 approx., a bit bracing to get in to but good once in! We had a good meal in the restaurant, though as it turned out booking was not necessary as there was only one other table occupied! The rooms were clean but quite basic, and we did not find any faults with anything. Breakfast was yogurt, brioche, french bread, jam and marmelade, little bread pudding type cakes and copious coffee and juice. All in all I would recommend this establishment.

Worth it for the pool!

We stayed, as a party of four friends, in early July. We booked via the internet and very shortly afterwards had a personal e-mail from the owner. We arrived on the dot at 1730 and were greeted immediately. Introductions completed we were shown our rooms and given information about the pool and breakfast. As it was a very hot day, the pool was number 1 priority and we headed there as soon as possible! Having enjoyed a swim and time to cool down we prepared to go out for our evening meal. The room itself was perfectly OK, everything worked as it should and was clean and well decorated. We generally enjoyed a good nights sleep and any disruption was not the fault of the auberge or the room! Breakfast was a communal affair with four other people at a large table. On offer was tea, coffee, fresh bread, homemade confiture, apple juice, fresh fruit, brioche, home made cakes whose name escapes me but were delicious! There was plenty to eat. My only observation are that the wifi was a bit hit and miss and that there was a very limited supply of morning drinks ie two herb teabags. Overall, we enjoyed our short stay at Le Relais de l'Autize. 

Nice Auberge

Found this place via booking.com. Easy access to La Rochelle and motorways and excellent value. We paid €240 for 2 nights, 4 people including breakfast. Breakfast is basic, bread, cakes, juices, coffee etc, however on the first morning the owner had made mini bread and oil pudding, they were so good. The second morning she made cheesecake. Also on offer was homemade apple juice. 
Room was comfortable and had no problems sleeping even though it was quite hot, no aircon. Pool was clean and after s hot day sightseeing, very refreshing.
Lovely little village and the owner recommended a meal in a creperia in the next town.  Fabulous food. 
The owner doesn't speak any English so take a phrase book.
