Amazing location, amazing food and super friendly staff, we had the most magnificent room, everything about this place is just so special. Fastidiously overseen by the kind and friendly owner who’s family has run it for over 100 years, cannot recommend visiting, eating and staying

The stuff of dreams…..

Such a characterful building, right on the main square and very close to the public parking. Room was spacious and comfortable and breakfast was fresh, local and plentiful. Team extremely friendly and helpful. Take time to look around the public rooms and taste the history

Beautiful mediaeval hotel

We stayed for 5 nights in May and based ourselves here for visiting the area on our way down driving to Itay

The car park is private and locked at night which was important to us as the car was full of items for Italy.

We stayed in the Maison des Saisons which is an annexe to the main hotel some 50 yards away and very quiet. Even the ancient church bell stops at 22.00.

The staff and services were excellent and the management very professional and kind.

The weather was very hot for mid-May but the thick walls of the house maintained a coolness.

What we did find refreshing was that they don't use duvets or pillows made of "glass fiber" filling. They provided feather pillows, cool linen sheets and blankets if required.

As you travel further south in France the tea and coffee making facilities become rarer. We asked for a kettle in the room and they were happy to provide this with nice china cups.

The main square in front of the hotel is the centre of Perouges and the hotel has a refreshment area with tables and chairs under a cool pillared roof.

It is pleasant to walk around the village alleys and lanes at night when all the tourists have gone.

The local delicacy is the Galette like a flan with pastry base and caramellised sugar. Everyone has a piece in their hand as they walk the town,

We ate in the hotel restaurant on the last evening. The food was very good and the service excellent, although the price seemed on the high side for what we had.

There was plenty of choice on the menu and a good selection of local wines.

The local town Meximieux is very close and has good bars and restaurant with a large supermarket.  There is also a good train connection to Lyon.

The village has little to entertain the visitor apart from Restaurants which seem to have variable opening hours and you need to check when they are open.

A medieval hill town

Lovely old hotel set inside medieval perouges. Perfect for getting the total experience of this old town. Staff are very friendly. Restaurant was closed the night we stayed but looked inviting. Private parking nearby was convenient. Spacious room.

Great stay to experience medieval Perouges

This hotel has a fantastic location on the main square in Pérouges and the staff are very helpful. Pérouges is well worth the journey from Annecy for a day visit, the museum being worth the €5 entrance fee just for the view from the tower alone and there are several craft shops to visit, a church, as well the cobbled streets to explore. However we stayed overnight and virtually had the village to ourselves late evening and early morning to explore before the coach loads of tourists arrived, which was a real bonus. We felt that both the hotel and restaurant were very expensive for what you got and was a bit of a tourist trap. Our double room at €137 though spacious and comfortable was a little tired and needed updating and a continental breakfast consisting of shop-bought croissants and bread etc was over priced at a further €17 each. Our meal in the restaurant was good but more home cooking than haute cuisine; I had a salad with smoked fish to start, roast chicken and dauphinois potatoes(delicious) and a grand marnier dessert (also good)which was €50. If I visited Pérouges again I would stay at one of the B&Bs in the village such as the Grenier à Sel which represent much better value for money. For all this, we did enjoy our stay at the hotel, the staff were friendly and we had lovely views from our room over the village and it is an experience to stay in the hostellerie.

Lovely Medieval hotel in heart of Pérouges

We had a lovely one-night stay at the quaint Hostellerie du Vieux Perouges which is situated in the historic and beautiful village of Perouges.

We were greeted by a very courteous and efficient receptionist and shown to both the hotels parking area and also our first-floor room which was in a nearby adjoining building.

Our standard twin room was extremely spacious, very clean with rustic furnishings and comfortable beds. Free Wi-Fi worked well. The only issue we encountered was intermittent noise from the floor above which arose from squeaky floorboards due to the age of the building (notwithstanding the building was very well maintained), as well at times being as able to hear the guests above. The situation was more annoying rather than impacting sleep quality.

The hotel also has a wonderful and beautifully furnished restaurant which offers a choice of ‘a la carte’ or degustation dining. My wife and I both selected the degustation option and each course was of the highest quality.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and if visiting Perouges, would have no hesitation in recommending Hostellerie du Vieux Perouges.


Quaint Accommodation / Lovely Restaurant

The hotel is located in the medieval village and staying there two nights was an unforgettable experience. I really loved the environment, old buildings and especially my window view in the morning. My hotel was no luxury but clean and with very comfortable bed. Restaurant was cosy and food delicious, although a bit pricy.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. 
I can trully recommend.

Unforgettable experience

We stayed here in the "Chatelaine" room - which was amazing.   My father in law had the room opposite - "Aimiable", I think.   What a beautiful old room.   Other reviewers are correct in that the bedrooms are away from the main building in other quarters of the village - but we found this very interesting and exciting.    We  had the place to ourselves and there was a lovely garden at the back where we sat and took in the beautiful scenery.   A very special place, indeed.   Well worth a visit.    We found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant.   The meals are quite expensive - but the ambience and the experience makes up for this, I find.  Yes - some of the rooms smell a little musty - but these buildings are very, very old and have stood the test of time - so some allowances need to be made here.   This also may be due to the wax polish they need to treat the acres of wood panelling and all the amazingly carved chairs and tables.   It all adds to the charm of the place.  A wonderful little gem.

Very evocative place to stay

This place oozes medieval charm, and the main tavern is striking and hugely authentic. But, and there are a few! The rooms are not in the hostellerie proper; they are in adjacent  buildings. The room we had was up two creaky flights of stairs and the building was musty (smell). The room was clean, but plain and not evocative at all of the character of the village. They have more authentic rooms, and this may reflect the room we selected, but what we stayed in was nothing special. It was not air conditioned and the room was very sticky in the hot weather. The water was shut off for 20 mins right in th middle of our morning showers (without any notice). Perouges is a lovely place, no doubt, but it might just be better to make a day or half day trip of it and not bother with staying there.

Quaint but pretty basic room

It was a Rick Steve’s recommendation - the beau French medieval town, and restaurant, Gallette. After much searching/ not easy to find, we walked across the cobblestones into a quaint inn that serves lunch. They were beautifully decorated with white tablecloths, flowers and china but everyone from the man who seated us to the uniformed servers were all very hostile and unfriendly. I’m sorry my French isn’t perfect but I was trying my best - didn’t have that kind of reception anywhere else in our travels across France. 
     Anyway - food was good:  Salade Dombiste Carpe Fumée, smoked fish with little quail eggs, followed by Filet de Sandre (fish of the lake) with cooked white grapes, sun dried tomatoes and pea pods. We also had an omelette with morel & chantrel mushrooms - fairly predictable. A glass of wine and two espressos came to $80 Euros. 
     The waiter really sent us on a wild goose hunt as we left so it took hours to get down the road to our next destination. Would not recommend, although food was decent.
