The most welcoming and relaxing stay I can ever remember having. Christopher and Frankie are the perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble. A beautiful, very comfortable room - I stayed in the Lilac room - with plenty of storage space, and the most stunning, unforgettable view. Breakfast on the terrace was the perfect way to start the day.  Make sure you have dinner here one night too, as the meals were absolutely delicious and exceptional value. When visiting the Limousin make sure you say here. It’s a little, hidden gem. I will definitely be back.

A Hidden Gem

This is my third stay at L'Hirondelle du Lac and I can safely say it was my favourite place to visit. It is so relaxing!

I booked my usual room - the red room, which has a double bed, lots of storage space and a large bathroom with a walk in shower. 

From the moment I arrived, the welcome from the hosts set the tone for the whole weekend. And that tone is relaxation.

With a drink or two on the terrace overlooking the lake, to being woken by birdsong every morning, to the changing skies, to watching the fish jump in the lake to the leisurely breakfast ... you just can't help but unwind. 

I would recommend without a doubt the lake view rooms, the view is stunning, and with changing skies it's always interesting. 

The little town of Peyrat is lovely too, with a couple of bars and shops, but it really is the definition of sleepy. Another town close by is Eymoutiers which has more bars and restaurants and is an easy drive. 

Driving in this part of France is recommended as the roads are all so quiet, and there is so much to see. I have included some of the sights we visited in the pictures with this review.

Returning to relaxation

From the moment we arrived Christopher and Frankie made us feel extremely comfortable and welcome. The B&B is amazing inside with lots of traditional old French furniture, clocks and art work, theres so much to look at! Christopher and Frankie put on a great breakfast spread and have the option for some very tasty evening meals for a very reasonable price. Outside the back door is the lake, which is the perfect place to eat breakfast or take an evening dip to cool off. The location is also great, theres a nice bakery and couple of places to eat in the town and some nice local walks. L'Hirondelle is also just a short drive from another, larger lake called lake Vassivière. There is so much to do! We visited the lake a few times, there are areas to swim, rent boats, eat, play volleyball etc. For a bit more excitement you can go on a treetop assault course or be towed around the lake in rubber rings by a speed boat. 
We would definitely stay at L'Hirondelle again, we had a great time! Thanks so much Christopher and Frankie!

Beautifully decorated B&B, with a great location and the best hosts

Me and my wife had a wonderful 3 nights at L'Hirondelle du Lac. The terrace where we had breakfast overlooks a stunningly beautiful lake, surrounded by breath-taking nature and traditional French stone houses. The hosts were two of the nicest people you will ever meet, who made the stay as comfortable, informative and relaxed as a trip like this should be. I would recommend this B&B in this charming little village to any and all that wish to have a very pleasant, affordable and tranquil holiday.

Fantastic Bed, Breakfast and views

We were lucky to have found a place like this. And even more lucky to sleep in a room with view over the lake! We had a great time in the Limousin and certainly in this B&B with Christopher and Frankie. Those breakfasts by the lake were the most relaxing ones I had in my life and I wish it was like that every morning. We also had dinner once and we learned some new things to try out in the kitchen from Christopher. 
If you’re looking for a relaxing environment, a cozy house/room and wonderful hosts, then you’re in for a treat at L’Hirondelle du Lac. We fell in love with the nature and charming villages in the Limousin so we will be back for more!

Wonderful spot by the lake!

My wife and I stayed at L'Hirondelle B & B in Peyrat as we were looking at a house we are hoping to purchase which was nearby and the owners recommended here. The owners are Frankie and Christopher who are 2 of the nicest people you could meet. Nothing was too much trouble and Frankie made a point of telling us places to go and see in the surrounding area.
L'hirondelle, which means Swallows, is situated on the edge of a small lake and the views are gorgeous. We had the red room which overlooked the lake and we both felt so at home. I normally wake about 6am but the bed was so comfy that one morning we woke at 8.30 which was a shock.
Breakfast was locally made apple and raspberry juice with croissants, lovely bread with local honey or jams, yoghurt, and pastries or Christopher's home made cinnamon and honey loaf which was delicious.
The B & B only has a few rooms so if you want to visit this area, book early.
On the Wednesday evening Christopher cooked an evening meal consisting of cucumber and almond soup which is served cold and I must say was a revelation as it had so much flavour for a cold soup. Our main course was a large trout cooked with fennel and sliced potato inside and served in a foil parcel. This was truly amazing. To wash this down we had a glass of wine with some chestnut liqueur. Next came a selection of local cheeses and to finish we had a raspberry dish with mascarpone and  cream. As a lover of desserts I would have to say this was genius. A selection of teas or coffees ended the meal. Christopher is an amazing cook and I would have to say the meal is one of the best I have eaten anywhere.
This B & B is not like any other I have visited. It is homely, a bit quirky, has lots of lovely older furniture and an amazing atmosphere which if you could bottle would make you a fortune. So if you are likely to need to stay anywhere in this area, I would urge you to stay at L'Hirondelle because you will not regret it. As well as the lake, there are lots of fantastic walks in the beautiful surrounding countryside and Peyrat is a great place to use as a base. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
