Simply splendid! A treat to have spent a night in this mythical hotel. Sure there is no elevator or aircon, if that’s what you are after stay elsewhere. Maddy was a charm. Place oozes with authenticity. Yes the insulation isn’t great and bathrooms not brand new but absolutely loved our stay and can’t wait to come back. Great meal in the restaurant (and I am a fussy eater).

Simply splendid stay at this mythical hotel

A wonderful, quirky little hotel on the hill above Piana.  There is no elevator , so be prepared to carry bags up multiple stairs.  The hallways are a little dark and the rooms are small, but magnificent.  The views are spectacular and the sunsets from the terresse are unforgettable. Be sure to chat with the owner; she has quite a story to tell about the place.

I am Corsican and have known the Roches Rouges restaurant since my early childhood as I used to come here for dinner with my family.
On our last stop touring around the Island with our son and his wife, we were really looking forward to our stay in this renowned hotel, remembering the beautiful building and the wonderful view.
What a disappointment! Yes, the view is still stunning and the building a gem but the bedrooms are such a disappointment despite being spacious enough.
No air conditioning, not even a ceiling fan or a a standing one. Our bedrooms were so hot we could not enjoy the view as we had to keep all shutters, windows and curtains closed, trying desperately to keep the temperature down. When I went down to ask for a fan, I was told by the manager, Maddy, that she had none and that we should just wait for the fresh evening breeze. We only managed to open our windows after 10pm and it was still very uncomfortable because of the heat.
No windows or ventilation in our tiny bathroom with just enough space for a small basin, the tiniest shower with a leaking tap and a toilet. The minimum comfort possible in order to call it a bathroom. We had a 3rd bed in our room not requested and obviously of no use to us, we would have much preferred a bigger or better functioning bathroom with a window.
Our children had an identical bedroom just above us, on the 2nd floor. The noise insulation was so poor that we could hear each other talking through the celling, hear them walking in the bedroom with the very creaking wooden floor and even guess any activities in their bathroom. Appalling ! Sadly you can also hear everything from the clients (behaving normally) in the adjacent bedrooms because the insulation is so bad.
No help by the way was offered to bring our big suitcases to our rooms, even on the 2d floor and obviously no lift.
The rooms have a small balcony to enjoy the view but not even a chair to sit down.
The decoration of the bedrooms is adequate and sober but nothing to be amazed by, far from it. The creaking wooden floor is a basic pine wood floor amateurishly laid.
We had already booked our table at the restaurant, hoping to revived old memories of some lovely family meals in this restaurant so we decided not to cancel our meal (based on the disappointing room).
Sadly it was an other big let down. The dining room hadn’t changed, which is a good thing as it’s a beautiful setting with a marvellous view, but the food was very average. The staff was helpful and polite, the menu at €49 without drinks seemed interesting enough but nothing was particularly tasty in the end. Good presentation but really no flavour. We could eat it but we didn’t enjoy it. It didn’t make us relish the breakfast. The A la Carte menu was very expensive and we were glad not to have spend more on this very average meal.
Back in our bedroom, we could at last open our windows and shutters as the sun was down but you then felt very exposed to the other clients dining on the terrace as we could hear every conversation and feared to be heard as well. 
During the night we were woken up several time by people moving in the room next door, flushing their toilet and at 6am by two male clients started talking normally under our windows on the terrace. My husband went down to see who it was: two clients who wanted to enjoy the early morning sun and who couldn’t understand that they disturb others by their conversation before breakfast table opened. When we told Maddy about the situation, as she was preparing breakfast inside, she told us to talk to the clients ourselves. This is really not a professional way to manage a hotel.
It was by far the worst night during our entire holiday and I am not a light sleeper. After the breakfast noises, you have the sun heat rising and the bedroom becomes a sauna again.
The last straw, going down to breakfast at 8am, there were no staff to help you and a leaking coffee machine. Maddy was chatting, hidden away behind her counter, with two acquaintances. Milk which tasted like water, we had to request the orange juice as the machine reservoir was empty. And then cherry on the top, a grumpy Maddy who can’t face requests apparently. The first staff appeared at 8.30am.
No wonder that in middle of July the restaurant and hotel were not even a quater full.
In case you think that I am a hard to please custumer, please read my glowing review of our hotel in Zonza a few days earlier. 
€185 (breakfast included) for a double room for 2 people, is really not justified. How can you deserve a 3 star rating when the main attraction is just the view and the building? It could be so much better if properly managed. It saddens me to say it, but I would avoid this establishment at all costs as it’s just the shadow of its former glory.

This hotel is supposed to be renown in Corsica, but boy we’re we disapointed…
I’ll start with the positive aspects : the view is great and building looks nice from the exterior. That’s it.
Now for the negatives… To begin with, no lifts in this hotel so you can drag you heavy suitcases on your own to whatever floor you are at. There is no air conditioning and not even any fans. This was probably the worse thing. I struggled to sleep since we came in the summer so we opened the window (which changed very little) and lead me to get bitten by mosquitoes as a bonus of a bad night of sleep. Our balcony was small, had no chairs table or ashtray. The bathroom was small and no windows. The shower was very basic. The toilet paper was of low quality. The tv in the room was quite small. It’s honestly not what I would expect from a hotel that charges you 185 a night. I’ve been to 5 other hotels for my stay in Corsica : all were cheaper and better without exception. We ate at the hotel restaurant, which was expensive yet unfortunately mediocre. It tried to look fancy but was tasteless… a bit like a cheap wedding meal.
The owner was unfriendly if not rude, and totally unapologetic.
I really do no recommend this place. If it use to be good it definitely no longer is the case.

Avoid this hotel

I booked 3 nights for my partner's 40th birthday.

Because it was an important event, and i dont know why.. but i sensed a little hesitation in the lady's voice, i called back to double confirm my reservation the week before. She said all was fine.

We arrived at 9pm the evening before his birthday. We were told that although they had my reservation, the rooms were all fully occupied, hotel was fully booked and they had nothing left. A misunderstanding. 

The owner did not in any way apologise. The rest of the reception staff looked mortified. 

Whilst we were waiting for her to search for a night in a nearby hotel for us, we ate at the restaurant. No discount, no aperatif offered for their huge mistake.

She found us a room in a hotel 15 minutes drive away (by this time 11pm), for one night. When we arrived we found it was a twin, and the last room.

i have never ever had any experience like this and cannot recommend highly enough to NOT book this hotel.

An indescribable experience

Fabulous 3 nights at this iconic hotel - exceeded all our expectations! Beautiful room with epic view, comfortable bed, sunsets for days, fantastic gastronomic experience night after night. Mady and her staff were so kind and made us feel so welcome, I can see why the "regulars" come back here year after year! We are so grateful to have been able to experience this "endroit magique". Merci Mady!! ❤️

Sublime...

This is possibly one of my favourite hotels. We stayed here 22 years ago and were very excited to be able to book 5 nights here post lockdown. I was not disappointed and felt it was even better. Our double double rooms were large and had nice facilities. The views from the terrace are breathtaking and sublime. Had two meals in the gorgeous dining room, which were excellent. A beautiful base for two lovely beaches and walks amongst the red granite rocks. Need a room looking out to sea when I come back!

Fabulous place

Beautiful location with a view. Building needs urgent update. Not clean, staircase was very dirty, room was clean and as expected.Outside terrace (soft)seating was blocked all the time. Drinks and snacks very expensive. Worst breakfast ever tasted.. No fresh bread or croissants from plastic bags the day before, old fruit salad, old cookies, old apple pie..Cereal jar not covered many wasps, self service. Not very welcoming.

Nice location but disappointment of service and breakfast

We stayed here for three nights in July, we asked for a view of the calanques and the sea and asked for the top floor - we loved being up there with the stunning views, but be aware there is no lift.  The room was very spacious and the bathroom was good. We had dinner here each night - the terrace and restaurant have the most amazing views of the famous calanques.  There are 2 very spacious terraces to sit outside on.  It is a fascinating hotel (over 100 years old) and is owned and run by an amazing lady, Mardy and she has an excellent team of staff.  To sit and have dinner in the restaurant is very special.  There is an audible gasp from fellow diners as the sun sinks and the calanques are covered in a red glow. Overall - a  wonderful experience.

A very special historic hotel with amazing views

A charming hotel located a short walk from town with plenty of parking. The room is charming with original doors, I think. We were there the last week of June during a heat wave and I knew sleeping at night would be an issue. There was no ventilation at all and it did wake us up. It’s expensive to add to an old building, but at the next renovation air conditioning would go a long way. Barring that, at least ceiling fans. I also feel the bathroom finishes don’t match the rest of the hotel.

Breakfast buffet was very large and we enjoyed regional flavored yogurts. This definitely wins for best breakfast view! The terrace is also a great place for apero or a nightcap.
