Walked in and got the last room at a fair price. Second floor and carry your own luggage. Parking. Room was small and suitable. It had everything we needed and was clean. Owner was friendly. Lovely spot by the river. 
Evening meal start at 7pm. Food was really good. Only problem was the waitressing. Young girls from Romania or Hungary or somewhere nearby, who spoke very little French (my first language or English or German. A lot of mistakes were made. Very disorganised and a bit frustrating. We had chosen a full 3 course menu and could not make the young women understand that we were still waiting for our dessert, that it was part of the menu. She would listen attentively, kept saying Yes and walking away. Fifteen minutes later, same scenario..... ( young waitress opened up the fridge and walked away to deliver item to customer but did not bother to close the fridge door) . While we were having an afternoon drink, we asked to reserve the table for dinner. The waitress then removed the reserve sign from another table just reserved, and put it on ours. 
It was a bit like a comedy, no harm done and a lovely meal and stay.

Good spot

We stayed 5 nights in July/August 2018 and booked pretty last minute (only 2 to 3 weeks upfront which is short term for the busy summer season) so this one was the only hotel left that had availability.

Let me start by writing down the positive things:
1) The location near the river: stunning, that goes without any doubt;
2) The pool which was a welcome refreshment during the very hot Summer days;
3) The size of the room and bathroom: very spacious.

Now the downsides:
1) There's no airco in the room, we were literally melting. The only thing we had was a ventilator (which uses the same hot air that is already in the room). 
The room was on the third floor (no elevator so don't even consider this hotel if you're not fit) right under the roof so it felt like being in a boiling pan.
2) Despite TA saying there's free parking, their own parking is NOT free. It is secured but it comes at 5 EUR/night. Even on booking.com it's misleading cause I read it as a 5 EUR one-off fee. When I made a remark about it upon check-out, the owner just replied "well, it's 5 EUR PER night." They should correct it on TA and on booking.com in order not to mislead people. 
There is a free public parking at 5 min walk from the hotel (not handy if you have to drag your luggage though.)
3) There is no wifi on the third floor. Actually, my iPhone could not detect wifi coverage in any of their places. There is a free desktop available at the reception but my point is that they shouldn't claim that there is wifi when there isn't.
4) We definitely missed a fridge/minibar in the room. We couldn't even keep our bottles of water to a reasonable temperature for drinking (and 23 degrees Celsius would still have been reasonable for me.) When we tried filling the sink with cold water to cool our bottles in there, we found out that there was no water stopper available either :-/
5) Their own restaurant serves the least good food at the most expensive price in Pont en Royans. Pick any other restaurant in Pont and you'll be better off.

All in all not our worst hotel experience, but far from our best experience as well. I would opt for the other hotel if ever I'd go back to Pont en Royans.

Not the best hotel we've been at

Had to visit the tourist information office as found it difficult to get a hotel in this area for four persons.
Got the last room here which was three separate rooms with five beds at the top of the hotel. 
Good value half board deal. Food was good and served on the terrace overlooking the river.Breakfast also good and varied. 
Lovely old wooden staircases.
Car park was secured overnight for the bikes.

Stayed here 1 night on french bike tour. D76 famous gorge road starts nearby! Friendly staff. Room large with ensuite that was ok. Downside of bathroom was that it had glass panels at top which let light into room when used in dark. Bed comfy. Had use of terrace overlooking river. Pool. But v cold!! Ate in restaurant. Basic food but tasty. Breakfast was the usual and plentiful. Room rate and breakfsst cost good value. Haveparking area that is locked at night so bike secure. Easy to walk to village and v friendly bar at main junction. Stunning area out of main tourist trail......

Quiet, warm, welcoming, charming, and romantic setting with a view over the Borne river. Rooms are comfortable and clean. The hostess and hotel co-owner Corrine was very helpful and speaks good English. Daily servicing of rooms was excellent.  The Chef and co-owner Remy is excellent! Lunch and Dinner choices were superb. I've never had such good Frog or Duck anywhere else! Both are highly recommended. During warm weather seating outside on the Terrace is very pleasant. Indoor restaurant area is excellent with large windows overlooking the River and mountains. Easy access to the walkway along the River with outstanding views of the old town and homes suspended high along the River. 30 mminutes from a beautiful cave with some of the most spectacular soda straw stalagtites I've ever seen. The museum and memorial to the French Resistance is also about 30 mintues away. The Boune Gorge is also a beautiful drive up to Villiard Du Lans. A great place to relax and enjoy a taste of the Vercours area of France.
