Great chef, lovely host and congenial guests made this a lovely stay in a haven of peace. The building may be dated but it was authentic and charming. OK the WiFi was "iffy" but who wants that when you have good company? Lots to enjoy in the local area.  We should have stayed longer.

Brilliant food, good company. What more do you want?

Monsieur André is what this charming hotel and restaurant is all about.  His waf, though also very Francais, remains in the background...  But Monsieur André with his lurvely French accent will guide you through the hotel and through the menu so lurvingly prepared by his waf.  Great atmosphere, great food, great ambience, persevere when looking for the 'otel and follow the many signs.  You'll be glad you did...

We stayed in "La Verte Campagne a.o. september 18 till 22.
Lovely old cottage, located in a quiet, calm country location, ideal for restful nights.  The owner, André welcomed us very friendly, we had immediately the impression to be at a familyhome.
Our bedroom was spacious with comfortable beds, a large bathroom and separate WC.
At the cosy dining room with open fire place, we enjoyed the excellent, delicious meals prepared by André's wife Lynne, who is a brillant cook!
We'v enjoyed very much our 5 days stay at "La Verte Campagne"!

We've booked our stay via "Logis de France", in our opinion, this restaurant merits "3 cocottes" i.o. 2!

"LA VERTE CAMPAGNE" = Excellent, friendly, delicious food etc......

We recently had a one night stay at this gorgeous old B and B full of charm and atmosphere. The only trouble we had was finding it in the pitch dark, late at night. The GPS gave up looking and required  a couple of phone calls to head us in the right direction!The bedroom was comfy, quaint and spacious, and the bathroom was large and clean. Breakfast was delightful, from homemade marmalade, to a full cooked breakfast and some great conversation with the owners.Only regret, was that we had arrived so late the night before, that we didn't really get to enjoy!

A French charmer with an English touch!

This hotel has not had a good review since 2014 when people were enthusing over it. Since then it has really gone downhill with people likening it to a well known Torquay hotel TV program. This shows that tripadvisor reviews are really worth reading and I only wish I had!. 
On a positive note the food was very good indeed. But it's a shame that madam's cooking was totally let down by Andre at front of house. There were only a couple of guests staying so Andre had little to do but look at youtube videos as we arrived. His time could be better spent on tidying up the garden and house, which looks good on the website, but has gone downhill to the point it's now has a charming,but untidy, farmhouse feel.
When I asked to sample the house wine with a view to buying a bottle at dinner or if it wasn't to our taste a more expensive bottle, his reply was that I couldn't as he would have to open a new bottle! House wine!His attitude got progressively more surly and hardly spoke to us from then on. Not a welcome bon hommie up to the great standard of his partners  cooking but a real let down from pre 2014 5 star ratings to this 2 star today. Give it a pass as there are plenty of other charming hotels in the area

So disapppointing. Could be, and has been, so much better

We were really looking forward to staying in this lovely old building in the country, but we were dissapointed, the outside gardens and drive looked neglected, and first impressions count, on entering the property it was badly in need of an upgrade , the overall impression was Shabby, needed decorating throughout, our room lacked the welcoming look, the bed was badly made and I had to re do it. The room had a funny smell which I think was coming from the bathroom toilet, the pipes were very noisy on flushing toilet and running any water.  The TV on wall was tiny and had wires hanging down from it.  The only good thing I can say about this hotel was the evening meal which was very good, except the wine which my husband was served in a jug like a gravy boat he said it tasted off.  The breakfast was poor and not much choice, coffee again was served in a jug.  Overall very disappointing.

Lovely old building

Sadly the reviews I’d read were dated. The ‘hotel’ or ‘B&B in a quaint old building’, had been taken over by a Brit, whose model for Maitre de, was clearly Basil Fawlty. I phoned to reserve a table for 7pm, ready with my poor French, only to be met with a surly English accent, I honestly assumed I had the wrong number. This should have been when I bailed. ‘7pm wasn’t possible as the restaurant didn’t open till 7:30 pm” ‘7:30 then?’ Was begrudgingly accepted. (It turned out later that half the seats in the restaurant were booked for 7:30)
We arrived 8 minutes early, to an apparently deserted building, I eventually found a way in past a very flustered lady, who shouted for the Maitre de, who in true Basil Fawlty style ushered us out of the restaurant as it was not yet open. Could we have a drink in the garden and look at the menu? How dare us! The drinks did arrive promptly by 7:27pm, at 7;30pm “Basil” arrived in the garden to tell us the restaurant was now open, (no menus). Having quaffed our drinks reasonably rapidly we arrived into the restaurant at 7:36pm, to find 3 of the eight tables already occupied, the sneaky B&B residents must have been waiting in their room. It took a while to get his attention and we finally got the menu’s only to have to watch him serve food to each table before we could even place our order, by this time it was 810pm and any chance of my enjoying the romantic occasion (Our wedding Anniversary) was lost as my wife had spent the previous 20 minutes persuading me not to walk out.
I accept that this Basil impersonator was new to the catering industry but being an ex pilot, his approach was to follow a predesigned plan to do every thing he could to keep the pesky clientele under his control. Their pleasure was not of ANY interest to him. He seemed to enjoy regaling the other guests in the numerous languages he spoke, after all this was his new hobby, and we were here at his pleasure. At one surreal point while waiting to order, I checked for hidden cameras, was this a weird prank TV show!

The food was OK, the service terrible. We will not be back!

I have left two weeks, before writing this review I am no longer spitting blood!

Oh and by the way if you are a B&B guest you will not apparently get to chose from the Restaurant menu, you will have to select from the limited B&B menu of the day.

Awfu!!! a miserable experience

Shabby chic without the element of chic in it
Very 50’s style and never been upgraded since. Worn out carpets, in fact everything was worn out except a yapping dog which terrified the living daylights out of my six year old. Yet pets are not allowed according to the terms and conditions
Rude arrogant owners. Imagine calling your “guest“ an ar**hole.  
TV the size of a post card circa 1980’s model. No flat screen here!
Sadly the misers who run it think it’s great.
Breakfast portion controlled using the latest scrutinising techniques
Bathroom last used during the dinosaur era.
Staircase narrow and not really suitable for a large suitcase.
Paid for 3 nights and only stayed for one. Found a lovely place further on in our journey
 Location is a good point. Nice and rural.
