Best though of as a restaurant with rooms.   From the description  e.g. an historic mansion with views of the park, I had thought this was in the countryside, but it turns out that Royat is a suburb of Clermont and this hotel is right on a main road with a public car park next to it.  There is indeed a public park at the back with a river running through it, but the surroundings are very much urban.  There doesn't seem to be a lift and our room was one floor down from reception (which declared itself ferme when we arrived, but they opened when they saw us outside and baffled).  We found a place to park in the public parking area nearby but it's a bit of a drag up hill to reach the hotel from there.  Our room was quite large with a view over the park and river, and permanent white noise from the weir so we got no traffic noise at all.  Dinner in their gastronomic restaurant was as good as expected but there is no a la carte, just a choice of 3 menus with everyone at the table having to choose the same one.  I did enjoy dinner and the service was good too but I prefer to have a choice.

One problem with the room was that the wifi didn't work - there were lots of hoops to jump through, and even then it didn't work.  We both spent 15 minutes at reception with their 'wifi expert' and eventually just about got it working.  I am pretty certain that the problem was that their digital certificate had expired but they wouldn't admit that.  I suppose they get so few guests that they can muddle through with almost unusable wifi.   Breakfast was semi-buffet but rather limited.

Good restaurant with rooms; gastronomic dinner good, but limited choice.

We did a very 'last minute' booking (on the day of the stay) and were very surprised and delighted at our 'find'!!
The rooms was amazing and very quirky (very French), with life size statues and a slightly bordello theme - quite charming.   Also, the room we were upgraded to was actually a suite with a separate sitting area.
We opted to dine in, and the 8 course degustation was one of the best meals we had in France - just delicious (I was asking for recipes!).
We took a lovely little walk around the grounds and beyond next morning and wended our way across France.  We didn't breakfast at the hotel.  Only down side is, as a family business, the reception isn't always manned and we had to ring to attract their attention.  No matter!
Very impressed; definitely can recommend and would stay again if in this area.

Quite a surprise and lots of fun!

Our second stay at La Belle Meunière and we look forward to returning. The rooms are comfortable and a good size, we stayed in Coco Chanel this time as it has a shower but did prefer the Japanese themed room, Alexandre Varenne last time which has a bath but no shower. The main reason for staying continues to be the gorgeous restaurant and the great cooking of the chef/proprietor and together with his lovely wife they provide a wonderful stop not very far off the A71/A89 autoroutes.

Great restaurant with comfortable rooms

As I am traveling a lot in France for business I llike the Logis the France Business Stopover formula. Logis has his own classification of "Fire Places " for comfort and Pots for the Kitchen.
This Hotel has it all. A warm welcome, a perfect room, high quality dinner and service in style. I do not want to be negative about this hotel but a few notes that you have to know as a guest:
From the parking you have to climb a little bit. For senior citizen or in the rain, it might be a little bit uncomfortable. Another point of attention is its Breakfast: Fresh baked pastrys but only, yes, only a small pot of mamalade with the small piece of warm bread. This will not keep me away when I need to be in Clermont Ferrand.

Near to Perfection

This place is beautiful, but only on the inside, typically french, but don,t be put off! From outside it looks like nothing at all but once inside you realise how wonderful it is. We were upgraded and Christine let us choose our room for no extra charge as we were the only guests, what a lovely gesture. The rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished, and spotlessly clean. The food really is fine dining and I,m sure it will be awarded a Michelin star very soon! The atmosphere is welcoming and not at all stuffy, Laurent the chef and owner comes out to chat during dinner which is nice, and the other staff members are very good too. Laurent and Christine should be incredibly proud of their hotel it is truly fabulous!

Fantastic.

We had a very newly renovated and decorated room and arrived on a night when the proprietor/chef had 70 for dinner.  We and some others also not from the large party were accommodated in a smaller dining room and looked after impeccably.  Every effort was made throughout our visit  to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.

A pleasant stay

The originally furnished and comfortable room and even more the very tasty, first-class dinner in an amazing dining hall turned our stop-over on the way to the Médoc into a delightful stay. The breakfast was delicious as well and served with style. The owners were very welcoming, the service discrete and friendly. We will certainly return to the Belle Meunière again.
