We hadn’t been to Bassiviere for some time so we’re looking forward to it. O my 4 tables of diners and a very nice duo playing music. It is 2 or 3 courses and you choose fish or meat for the main. I chose fish. They served me lamb then forgot the desert but still charged me until I pointed out the mistake. This whole thing took over 2.5 hours which wasn’t so bad as we had a quiet baby and were enjoying the music. What’s it like when it’s full!?

Just disappointed that they served the wrong main course and I didn’t want to wait another hour for them to get it right

Do not go here - terrible service - overpriced food of very poor quality and very very slow service - don’t be seduced by the location - also I was told they catered for Gluten free and sent an email in advance, no Gluten free 

terrible restaurant 

Simply amazing! Ilse is a lovely host and the gites are perfect! We had everything we could need! We stayed in apartment 3 which has great views of the valley. Especially in the evening the sunset is breathtaking! The pool is very clean and the sunloungers are comfortable. It’s nearby a lot of stunning medieval villages as well as some cities for shopping but definitely no high street tourism which we really liked. The restaurant of Bassiviere is wonderfull as well! We had a lovely dinner as well as a chill and delicous lazy lunch on sunday. We had a great stay and will definitely come back!

Perfect stay!

This was our first visit to Bassiviere restaurant but sadly probably our last.   The setting is lovely and our waitress was very friendly and greeted us upon arrival which was a refreshing change.   However, we were disappointed with our meal.   We had no idea of the price before we arrived but were happy to pay a bit more than usual as it was our 34th wedding anniversary.   We were informed lunch was a formula and the cost was 39,50 which before eating we were OK about.   However, what let it down for us was the limited choice and the quality.  There were only two choices of starter - cucumber gazpacho (cold soup) or goats cheese salad.  Mains choice was duck or a vegetarian dish and desserts either panna cotta or a rhubarb type pie.  A mise en bouche was served at the beginning and there was a glass of champagne served inbetween courses.   The goats cheese salad was nice but neither of us liked the very hard nut served in the salad.   We both had duck which was average and served with only rocket and a few pototoes, overcooked and a bit tough.   Panna cotta was very hard set and the rhubarb came with squirty cream out of a tin and not much taste to it.   All in all I know we can go out for lunch elsewhere and be offered any type of salad, duck & chips and a dessert for around 15 euros so not sure where they come up with 39,50 for an additional mise en bouche and a glass of champagne?  A real shame because its a lovely setting and they had live music arrive as we were finishing so it could have been a very pleasant afternoon had the food been better for the price we paid.

Overpriced food

We have just finished our second dinner in the Bassiviere Restaurant and our first negative impression was even topped: the place is really very nice and the waitress is extremly friendly and nice. BUT: the owners are just unfriendly or maybe just ignorant and the food is completely overpriced. We had one starter to share and ordered a small salad with this starter (one single fig filled with gorgonzola, which was very good) and had 30€ on the bill for just one fig and a very small side salad. Also the mains are overpriced. Really a pitty, such a nice place with owners who are obviously not interested in their guests (no hello, no anything) and too high prices. So no recommendation, there are much better places in the area with so nice staff and owners.

Nice place but terrible owners and far too high prices

Horrible people, that are only focussed on taking as much money from you as possible. Be careful with down-payments, they book multiple people for the same appartement and same period.  Initially they seem very friendly,  but when it comes to money they are thiefs.

Don't stay here, it's a rip-off

We have eaten at Bassiviere several times (see review from 2017) and thoroughly enjoyed the super tasty food, the super location and the top hospitality. What a bitter disappointment this time.

First of all it seemed a bit strange that the lady, who later turned out to be the hostess / owner, completely ignored us when we walked up the path towards the restaurant. She was busy with her puppy and did not welcome us further when she followed us. After we settled in at the table, we got a drink menu after about 15 minutes. No menu yet. While we again had to wait 15 minutes for the drinks to be taken up, the same owner was busy setting the tables and still completely ignored us. It would have been nice if she had welcomed us and provided drinks straight away. Finally the drinks were taken up, while guests who arrived later already had their drinks, The drinks were brought, the carafe of table water was forgotten, and less than a minute later a bottle of spring water was brought and opened without asking - we had not ordered this but yes we were glad that drinks finally arrived. Then another waitress brought the ordered carafe of table water.

The beautiful location and the delicious food then made up for a lot. But the annoyance to the owner peaked for us when guests came in who she greeted extensively and with all due respect. Even the Covid-19 rules were thrown overboard for a moment when the mouth masks went off and the guests arrived were equally extensively kissed. We never saw the owner again, because she was drinking champagne with her 'friends' at the table.

We hope that the owner can bring the service level back to the old level. Then it may be fine for us again.
Atmosphere is really less than you can expect due to poor hospitality.
Pity.

Niet als gasten onthaald

A friend and I had lunch here and it was first class. We had the set lunch menu and all 3 courses were absolutely delicious the service was first class and the setting beautiful. We can't wait to go back and try the Sunday lunch

First Class Restauraunt

We arrived at 7pm. After ordering and waiting for an hour we went up to complain and discovered the bat-brained waitors had forgotten to put our order in. We then waited another 1.5 hours for our food to arrive, which came inedibly raw and was utterly the worst meal i have ever experienced. We waited for half an hour with our meals clearly abandoned and waitors failed to remove our plates. After more time we went up to complain, but we remained polite. The head waitor and his staff simply laughed, rolled their eyes, and were frankly showing disgusting behaviour. The waitors proceeded to make faces at my children. It is now 10.45 and we are all pissed off and have finally recieved our bill. They didnt even give us a discount or take anything off the bill. I am appalled at the outrageous behaviour and disgusting food.

AFWUL

We booked apartment #5 (dovecote), which is detached from the barn. This apartment was just perfect for us as we brought our dog, and gave us a bit more privacy. The decoration and the design of the interior was very elegant and makes the home stand out from any other location we have been to. Finally, the friendly and professional staff gave the personal touch to our holiday. We have enjoyed very much the good food (and accompanying wines) at the restaurant - which is boutique style as well. In short, thanks to the setting and atmosphere at Bassivière we had a very relaxing and luxurous stay à la campagne’
