A beautiful setting, warm welcome, friendly staff.  The food was excellent. The bedroom beautiful and very comfortable. Perfect situation when stopping on route as it is just off the motorway, I would have liked to stay another night and make use of the facilites. Highly recommend.

Fabulous!

It is 15th century, austere and dark but fascinating. History seems to bleed out of every stone and it is very close to the A75 which is  actually adjacent to the grounds of Varillettes.  Entry is by a dozen ancient stone steps leading to a baronial salon. The decor is as consistent with the period of this chateau without negating comfort but it is not at all fussy. The manager was doubling as Receptionist and was very obliging; as he took us to our room, he updated us on a little of the building’s history. 

We had Chambre 23 (a superior room) high up under the roof slates, with fascinating exposed original roof timbers, oak doors, fabric wall covering and a four poster bed, but with no canopy. Essentially our room was clean, tidy and at the top of a long ancient winding stone staircase.  The bed was huge and very comfortable. WiFi was available but not in the room, nor was there a TV, (thank goodness). There was an ante-chamber with large wardrobe and the bathroom was imaginatively designed, if feeling a bit tired; worn sink and grab handle on the bath had been poorly repaired but dressing gowns and slippers provided for guest use. 

Being the end of September, the evening temperatures in this region were cool and when we descended the stone spiral staircase for aperitifs, we sat in the lounge where a log fire set the atmosphere.  Dinner, (down another spiral staircase lit romantically with large candles placed strategically on the steps),  was magical. We were now in the medieval barrel-roofed kitchen with simple but appropriate furnishings with the main focus being a gigantic fireplace with log fire.  The menu was a set four course one preceded by muse en bouche with the theme being ‘canard’ for all three, but the variety of preparation and styles of each course made it exciting.  A good local cheese board followed and then crème brûlée. All served in an informal and pleasant manner with not an iota of prétention.  

Breakfast was taken in a vast cavernous hall with another mandatory large fireplace.  It was self service with a variety of pastries, fruits, savoury, etc and a selection of coffees and teas. In our original reservation we had specified gluten free bread and this was thoughtfully honoured for both dinner and breakfast.

In all, this was a very pleasant experience and will certainly be repeated.  It has been a relief to find another venue close to the A75 that is so charming and yet so quirky.  Many thanks to the team for this fabulous overnight stop.

What a hidden gem so close to the A75

This is an interesting chateau based hotel.  In fact on arrival you are told that it is a 15th century chateau.  This explains a few of the features.

When we arrived we had a very warm welcome and that air of friendliness was maintained throughout our overnight stay.

We had a duplex family room on the second floor.  This is up a spiral staircase but the manager was only too willing to help us with the luggage.  The room was a reasonable size.  As a warning there is no air conditioning and no tv in the room.  The bathroom is cozy and the ceiling on the landing to the duplex room of two singles is low.  That said, it was a very comfortable night.

Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The sauces at dinner made the meal, as they so often do. The cheeseboard was local and described with a passion.  

Well worth the stay if you are in the area.

Welcoming stay

Stopped at this hotel en route from Barcelona to Megeve. 
It’s very close to the autoroute and easy to find. The proximity of the road does mean there is a little bit of traffic noise at night, but it was drowned out by the owls!
The room was comfortable but a little bit dated and would benefit from better lighting. 
The grounds are lovely. 
Service was very attentive and efficient. Dinner was good local produce and very enjoyable. But the star experience was breakfast. 
On this business trip I have stayed at two posh five star hotels but neither could offer up croissants to match the ones served at this much more modest establishment - as all regular French travelers will know a crumbly light-as-a-feather croissant is, these days, a rare thing, but look no further ....
Other breakfast ingredients were simple, local and delicious cheeses, juices, jams and breads.

Having last year stop at hotel de la  poste and had the plaisure  of an exelent meal
september in this part is CEPtime
we decided to come again and try our luck at the sarurday market. for ceps or bolets to you.nice with perssilade and garlic.Anyway the chateau did catch my wife fancy.A night in the middle age🤗
the place is a chateau just that.Confort good rooms good space .good sevice.
no fancy  windows plain,and what a 15c chateau should be.if you want mod tat go elswhere.nice garden,fruit trees with ripe pears and delicious apples.we ha a look at the evening fare ,not to our taste,so to st flours we go.found a place"ANDER"

Beautiful, smallish château.   When we arrived, no one to be seen but a telephone number to ring and it was this person (who was serving dinner when we arrived) who was working at reception,  dinner, and check out.    Big bedroom, comfortable bed and lovely view of the superb garden.   The bathroom is quite small, as is the bathtub, with no glass panes or curtain and just a hand-held shower.  Very quiet.    We had a truly delicious dinner downstairs, spiral stone staircase and quite dark but romantic enough.     Breakfast in a huge lovely room was really good.   We paid 360 euros for the night with breakfast and dinner.   Expensive.    As we had arrived quite late and left early, we didn’t have time to enjoy the grounds and in any case, it was raining !   Didn’t see the pool either.

A bit expensive

As we approached the rusting gates through a lorry park, a few meters from the motorway, I realised that this was not quite what I had been expecting. The drive up to the house through the sad looking gardens (I know it was summer, but other places manage to use a sprinkler) confirmed that the photographs on the website were, at best from a bygone regime, at worst, downright dishonest. The  art installation set around a pool that features online has fallen down and all that is left is the broken base. The pool that looks like an infinity pool online is actually an above ground tub, rather like an oversized hot tub. The public lounge has a TV playing (the only one in the building) and has the sort of furniture that rarely reaches its reserve in country auctions. The manager, who was clearly rather overworked and doubled as the waiter at dinner was astonishingly charmless but he was probably as disappointed at being there as we were.
The upside, such as it is, is that the dinner was OK and fairly priced and the bed was comfortable, hence the three out of five rating, rather than the more appropriate two.

Not What You Might Expect From The Website

Flies everywhere in the room as if something mouldy was in there. Very rude and poor customer service. Couldn’t stay even the first night. Left and booked alternative accommodation! Management were very unprofessional
